How TFT Bastion Works

Bastion Trait Bonus

TFT Set 15 Bastion

Champions: Garen 1g / Rell 1g / Shen 2g / Xin Zhao 2g / Swain 3g / Leona 4g / Braum 5g

Your team gains 10 Armor and Magic Resist. Bastions gain more, and the value doubles in the first 10 seconds of combat.

  • (2) 18 Armor & MR
  • (4) 36 Armor & MR
  • (6) 70 Armor & MR; Non-Bastions gain an additional 25 Armor & MR.

Bastion is the classic Armor and Magic Resist trait. Its two-piece bonus is an easy splash that benefits the whole team, making it a great low commitment pickup when available. Set 15 offers a pretty nice six-piece that could be worth considering, especially seeing as there’s seven champions available.

Bastion Synergy

Here’s a rundown of the traits you can branch into from Bastion:

  • Garen – Battle Academia
  • Rell – Star Guardian
  • Shen – The Crew / Edgelord
  • Xin Zhao – Soul Fighter
  • Swain – Crystal Gambit / Sorcerer
  • Leona – Battle Academia
  • Braum – The Champ / Luchador

Garen and Leona have perfect synergy as Battle Academia + Bastion units, giving you a nice boost when going vertical with Battle Academia.

TFT Bastion Champions

Garen Battle Academia Bastion 1g

TFT Set 15 Garen

Garen’s Mighty Blade of Justice heals himself before dealing physical damage to his target. He’s a very basic 1-cost tank that can help hold the frontline while exploring your first traits. He gives first access into Battle Academia if you decide to go that route, while maintaining the usefulness of Bastion if you simply need to fill the gaps.

Rell Star Guardian Bastion 1g

TFT Set 15 Rell

[Link to Champion Page]

Rell deals magic damage in the form of short line through her target, then reduces the amount of damage taken for a few seconds. This gives Rell a bit more reach to potentially hit through the frontline, while also bolstering her defenses. She’s essentially the Star Guardian version of Garen, giving players first access to the vertical trait alongside Bastion.

Shen The Crew Bastion Edgelord 2g

TFT Set 15 Shen

[Link to Champion Page]

Shen creates a large shield for a few seconds, then empowers his next few attacks to deal bonus true damage. As a three trait 2-cost unit he’s very solid, with both Edgelord and The Crew pairing very well together. These give him access to increased Health, Attack Speed, and Omnivamp, which only adds to the natural defenses Bastion provides.

Xin Zhao Soul Fighter Bastion 2g

TFT Set 15 Xin Zhao

[Link to Champion Page]

Xin Zhao’s Guarding Crescent heals himself, then deals AoE physical damage to enemies in within range while marking the active target. Then for the next few seconds, he takes greatly reduced damage from those unmarked enemies. This makes him great at singling out an important foe, which could potentially reward players who scout and reposition before combat begins.

Swain Crystal Gambit Bastion Sorcerer 3g

TFT Set 15 Swain

[Link to Champion Page]

Swain is a frontline tank that can increase his max Health, heal himself, and deal magic damage over time to enemies around him. This makes him very disruptive on the battlefield, especially combined with Sorcerer. As a three trait unit he’ll find his way onto a variety of teams, making him very easy to splash for some 2-piece bonuses.

Leona Battle Academia Bastion 4g

TFT Set 15 Leona

[Link to Champion Page]

Leona’s Aegis of Unbreakable Dawn creates a huge shield on herself before dealing Armor + MR based magic damage to nearby enemies. This allows players to build Leona defensively and still increase their damage output. As mentioned above, Leona shares the same traits as Garen, making her a no-brainer if you’re deep into Battle Academia.

Braum The Champ Luchador Bastion 5g

TFT Set 15 Braum

[Link to Champion Page]

Braum is The Champ for a reason. His El Tigre Tornado ability Stuns his target, spins them around, then throws them forward. It’s a devastating combo that’s sure to take a unit out of the fight, and if their health was low enough, he literally does by throwing them off the board! Luchador and Bastion are great together, making it way harder to break the frontline. With Braum on board, perhaps going vertical Bastion is worth considering.
