Notes on Contingency Contract
This Contingency Contract has been dominated by Combustion compositions, thanks to the Ambient: Tremor modifier, which increases any damage that is NOT Basic Attack, Battle Skill, Combo Skill or Ultimate damage by 100%.
Some Operators requires different builds, and some may even use different weapons depending on your modifiers, we will cover some of these in the Commentary section below!
Lastly, just because an Operator is low on the tier list, it doesn't mean it's impossible to clear high difficulties using them! All of them can deal with 20 Test Criteria and it will be enough for your Oroberyl rewards.
Commentary
S-Tier
Estella - Trivializes the Cryo Infliction modifiers, as she's immune to it. Usually built as a tank to survive taking hits so you can focus on your other characters' gameplay.
Wulfgard - 0 SP Combustion trigger. The Ultimate also forcibly applies combustion to enemies for even more Damage over Time. His build changes drastically for this CC and you should use 3pc Hot Works and focus on Arts Infliction gears.
Gilberta - Huge AoE Inflictions and grouping. The Ultimate also adds a lot of damage for any Arts damage, including Combustion. Can use Detonation Unit to apply Arts DMG Taken% on enemies. Avoid using her Combo Skill since it heals enemies based on their Max HP. Huge enemies are immune to Lift so you can use her Combo to get some extra Ultimate Energy (Wave 2-2, 3-2 and 4-2)
Laevatain - Similar to Wulfgard, Laevatain can also apply Combustion using her enhanced Battle Skill. She also uses her Combo Skill whenever Combustion is applied, so you can get a lot of damage when using her with Wulfgard. Umbral Torch is recommended over her signature weapon. Build can focus on Combo Skill (
Type 50 Yinglung) or Combustion damage (
Hot Work, Arts Infliction).
A+ Tier
Mi Fu - One shotting enemies is her specialty and, just like Combustion teams, she can benefit from the +100% DMG increase on her Crush. The "second" Crush can deal full damage even when using Edit: Encasement, as the enemy Vulnerability stacks will be removed when using her "first" Crush. Just keep in mind that using Edit: Rush limits the damage enemies take in a single hit (25% Max HP), so if you plan to one shot enemies, disable it!
Rossi - Amazing for single target waves, especially 2-2, 3-2 and 4-2. The Ultimate can quickly burst any of these waves, but if you're using Team: Bent Edges this will only happen once per run. Her Combat Talent DoT also benefits from the 100% DMG increase, however, you need to use her Battle Skill to apply it to enemies, which also applies Vulnerable stacks. So if you're using Team: Restraint and Edit: Encasement, your Physical damage will drop considerably.
Akekuri - Good for the SP generation and can carry Thermite Cutter for the team. Can be built as a Tank and be the controlled operator when using Team: Heat Loss and Team: Battle Chill.
Snowshine - Similar to Estella, Snowshine can prevent Arts Inflictions when using her Battle Skill and unlocking Potential 1. It's not as effective as Estella and requires SP. She's also a good source of healing between waves, since you can use the toxin left by enemies when using Edit: Toxic Residue to trigger her healing effect.
Zhuang Fangyi - Still strong on Contigency Contract but the high-paced gameplay means you'll trigger a lot of Cryo Inflictions when using Team: Heat Loss and Team: Battle Chill. Her Combo Skill also requires a Final Strike on enemies, which can be hard to do due to enemy aggressiveness and Solidification occurring so often.
A-Tier
Camille - As Combustion thrives on this CC, Camille's Heat Susceptibility and SP generation can help with some increased damage, however, it's unlikely you'll trigger his Combo Skill often and this can hurt his SP generation and a lot of his kit.
Tangtang - Cryo units aren't strong on this CC, but Tangtang still find some uses. Effectively, her Battle Skill will only cost 80 SP and can quickly apply Cryo Inflictions to enemies in a large area. It also applies Arts Susceptibility and her Signature also applies Arts DMG Taken%. The Ultimate can be a nuisance when using Edit: Regeneration, as the crowd control effect can heal even bosses/huge enemies, to avoid healing enemies too much, start a dive attack right before casting her Ultimate.
Ember - While many units can be played as a "tank" by using Strength, HP and DMG Reduction gears, Ember is the true tank. She still suffers from Cryo Inflictions at higher difficulties but she's a solid pick for players that are still learning how to "dodge" enemy attacks by jumping instead of dashing.
Antal - If Fire/Electric is Meta, of course Antal would be. But his utility can be quite limited since the Battle Skill only debuffs one enemy, and the extra Infliction will rarely find uses. He's also a pretty good "tank" due to his Combat Talent, which can nullify Physical Damage received.
Perlica - Perlica main issue is the fact her Combo Skill relies on Final Strikes. This can be really difficult to trigger consistently and could hurt your DMG Output.
B-Tier
Ardelia - Just like Perlica, Ardelia also requires Final Strike to trigger her Combo Skill, plus 100SP if you want to apply Phys/Arts Susceptibility on enemies. This makes Ardelia a bit unreliable and expensive. The healing can backfire when using Ambient: Synced Growth, as it heal enemies based on their Max HP.
Endministrator - Unlike Mi Fu, Endmin can only trigger Crush once. Their Ultimate is also purely for Damage and Team: Bent Edges will make it worse after every cast. Originium Crystals can heal smaller enemies and while it can increase the Physical DMG Taken% on bigger enemies there isn't a good and reliable source of damage to make use of it.
Avywenna - Much like Perlica and Zhuang Fangyi, her Combo Skill requires a Final Strike on enemies. Even if you can handle it, her damage output isn't as good as Zhuang Fangyi and has a slow setup that resets every time you pull her lances.
Arclight - Depending on the team you're playing, Arclight can trigger her combo skill consistently and generate SP for your team. This can be difficult to handle at higher difficulties.
Alesh - Similar to Arclight, can find some uses in Zhuang Fangyi teams. Phys/Shatter teams are hard to recommend since Edit: Regeneration adds a lot of healing to enemies.
C-Tier
Catcher - Catcher is... probably still bottom tier. But he's a solid tank for players that are still struggling to dodge attacks or want a more traditional way to deal with damage. Physical teams can make use of his Vulnerable applications to trigger Crush.
Chen Qianyu - Edit: Effect Barrier slows down the Vulnerable application so you'll need to hold her Combo for a few seconds before using it. Her Vulnerability application is still unmatched, but at higher difficulties Chen is unlikely to deal damage. The Ultimate, which is one of the strongest part of her kit, suffers a lot when using Team: Bent Edges.
Da Pan - Similar to Endmin, Da Pan only triggers Crush once. While it deals more damage, it's a single target damage that is further impacted by Vulnerability cooldown when using Edit: Effect Barrier. Applying Vulnerability using Da Pan also hurts his damage when using Team: Restraint.
Yvonne - Her Single Target damage is good but she's extremely vulnerable when using her ultimate. Also, controlling Yvonne means you are susceptible to Cryo Inflictions. Her AoE applies Solidification to enemies, which will heal smaller enemies when using Edit: Regeneration.
D-Tier
Fluorite - Can be used for Extra Cryo/Nature inflictions, but don't expect good damage from her.
Lifeng - Similar to Chen, Lifeng also suffers at higher difficulties and won't deal damage. Even worse, the Ultimate will only apply a single Vulnerability stack when using Edit: Effect Barrier, as the delay between Ultimate hits is less than 5s.
Pogranichnik - If you're not using Edit: Effect Barrier, Pogranichnik is great. Solid source of SP and Breach. But with Edit: Effect Barrier active, Pogranichnik is just a SP bot with his Combo Skill and Ultimate. Without Breach, Pogranichnik loses a lot of value in Physical teams.
Xaihi - While her Ultimate helps dealing with Cryo Inflictions/Solidification, she's still a specialized Cryo support, and since Cryo is not performing well in this CC, it's hard to justify using her over Estella.
Last Rite - Last Rite is going to struggle a lot unless you're removing a lot of modifiers from your run. She applies Cryo Inflictions, requires Final Strikes, has a slow rotation, her AoE is non-existent, Ultimate is used for damage and not for utility, and applies crowd control when using her Combo Skill. Every one of these things has a modifier that will hurt her damage.
