WoW Forever has massively reworked how professions work and the choice of what is best for your class, may not be as simple as before. So here is breakdown for every single class. For more information check out the detailed video here linked to the right.
Best Professions For Every Class
Overview
Cloth Users
(Mage, Warlock, Priest)
Best Choices:
Tailoring and
Enchanting
Tailoring gives us access to multiple very powerful cloth sets that are "Bind on Pickup", meaning they cannot be brought or sold, and are only available to the person creating them. Some powerful sets include:
Mages:
The Pearly Set (Arcane Damage Boost):
Filigreed Pearly Gown
Filigreed Pearly Circlet
Filigreed Pearly Leggings
The Silky Set (Frost Damage Boost):
Filigreed Silky Circlet
Filigreed Silky Gown
Filigreed Silky Leggings
The Flame Set (Fire Damage Boost):
Filigreed Flame Circlet
Filigreed Flame Gown
Filigreed Flame Leggings
Warlock and Shadow Priest:
Filigreed Shadow Circlet
Filigreed Shadow Gown
Filigreed Shadow Leggings
Holy/Disc Priest:
Filigreed Pristine Circlet
Filigreed Pristine Gown
Filigreed Pristine Leggings
Additonally you can craft a ton of gear for leveling that will give you great stats and help you to level faster. As
Tailoring doesn't need a gathering professions (everyone can pick up cloth), you have a free profession slot too. Not only that but we can craft bags for convenience and easy gold.
Enchanting is a great 2nd option as in WoW Forever we can now craft staffs, see
Glimmering Staff as a good example. Again these are bind on pickup, so you NEED to be an enchanter to use them.
Not only that but you can enchant spell damage on your gear
Enchant 2H Weapon - Mighty Spell Power, and now in WoW Forever, also on your neck. Enchanting works really well with Tailoring because we can craft a ton of green and blue gear and then disenchant it to level our enchanting.
Enchanting can also make very powerful wands, that can exceed those in the open world, such as the
Twisted Nether Wand that can work really well on specific builds.
Additional Options:
Engineering will always be massively powerful in PVP regardless of your class. It also works even better if you are a gnome with
Engineering Specialization. So may be worth taking alongside tailoring. I wouldn't consider
Alchemy as "needed" as most of the spell damage and burst spell flasks/potions can be brought on the auction house.
If you don't want a second crafting profession
Skinning can be a decent second profession. Some pecies may need leather, and gathering leather doesn't require hunting down nodes, so can be very passive. Especially on some caster builds with amazing AoE potential, we can farm leather v fast.
Mage Specific Profession:
Comprehension:
Mages can lean comprehension, a new mage specific skill that does not take up one of the 3 slots. This lets us use Comprehend Scroll to decipher scrolls. This is very simmilar to lockpicking, as the scrolls are locked, but give an awesome set of buffs when comprehended. This starts as a bit of fun, but can be a real gold earner if you level it and can get the most powerful scrolls.
Plate Users
(Warrior, Paladin)
Best Choices:
Mining and
Blacksmithing
Similar to tailoring, blacksmithing feeds us with a TON of leveling gear, and then even better endgame gear, that can also be bind on pick up.
We now have build specific crafted gear that is bind on pick up and gives us a ton of stats, really good for both warriors and paladins.
Paladin Gear:
Justicar's Belt
Justicar's Boots
Justicar's Gauntlet
Justicar's Gloves
Justicar's Pauldrons
Justicar's Sabatons
Justicar's Waistguard
Justicar's Wristguards
Holy Paladin:
Acolyte's Silvered Chain Helm
Acolyte's Silvered Chain Leggings
Acolyte's Silvered Chain Shirt
Tank Gear:
Guard's Silvered Chain Helm
Guard's Silvered Chain Leggings
Guard's Silvered Chain Shirt
Warrior DPS:
Officer's Belt
Officer's Boots
Officer's Gauntlet
Officer's Gloves
Officer's Pauldrons
Officer's Sabatons
Officer's Waistguard
Officer's Wristguards
Additionally you can make a ton of new weapons:
Thorium Cestus
Legionite Glaive
Thorium Poleaxe
Thorium Greatmace
Not only all this, but blacksmithing gives you a ton of really good stuff for leveling and endgame, that will make you stronger and more defensive, much needed as a plate wearing frontline character.
Dense Sharpening Stone
Dense Weightstone for big damage. Things like
Golden Skeleton Key to pop your own locks, without relying on rogues. and
Mithril Shield Spike for tanking
Note also that both
Mining and
Blacksmithing give a strength and damage buff at the campfire, so a perfect combo.
Other Options:
For
Paladin it may be worth considering
Enchanting as they can now craft librams, such as
Libram of Holy Alacrity. We don't know the extent of what will be available on full release, or what will be Bind on pick up, but very important to consider.
Leather/Mail Users
(Druid, Rogue, Shaman, Hunter)
Best Choices:
Skinning and
Leatherworking
Unlike in WoW Classic, lots of mail recipes have moved from blacksmithing to leatherworking, making skinning and leatherworking perfect for all 4 of these classes. Similar to before we now also have class and spec specific leatherworking gear that is bind on pickup:
For healers:
Wisdom's Leather Belt
Wisdom's Leather Boots
Wisdom's Leather Gloves
Wisdom's Leather Helm
Wisdom's Leather Leggings
Wisdom's Leather Tunic
Melee DPS:
Warden's Leather Boots
Warden's Leather Bracers
Warden's Leather Gauntlets
Warden's Leather Shoes
Warden's Leather Waistguard
Warden's Leather Shoulders
Shaman Specific:
Totemic Leather Armor
Totemic Leather Belt
Totemic Leather Boots
Totemic Leather Gloves
Totemic Leather Helm
Totemic Leather Leggings
Mail Specific:
Stalker's Leather Belt
Stalker's Leather Gloves
Stalker's Mail Boots
Stalker's Mail Bracers
Stalker's Mail Sabatons
Stalker's Mail Shoulders
Again these are just examples of the MANY crafted sets. Additionally they can make armour kits that not only increase defensives, but give damage boosts now. Such as
Forceful Thick Armor Kit for attack power, and
Mystic Heavy Armor Kit for spell power.
Shaman and
Druid may want to consider
Enchanting as they appear to create idols and totems such as
Idol of the Dream and
Totem of Thunder. (there are many more). Enchanter also works if you're planning a full spellcaster build, such as elemental shaman or balance druid, due to the ability to craft staff such as
Glimmering Staff.
Hunter may want to consider
Engineering due to the ability to craft scopes, guns and more ranged gear.
SAF-T Ultra Precision Scope is an example of the type of stuff engineers can craft.
Druid may also consider engineering as the druid forms can now throw the throwable grenades and consumables.
Why no
Herbalism,
Alchemy or
Engineering ?
Alchemy has had massive reworks in WoW forever and gives a ton of new potions, such as cooldown buff pots,
Greater Mender's Potion,
Greater Spellblasting Potion and
Greater Frenzy Potion.
Also a ton of utility potions such as
Free Action Potion and
Dragonfire Potion, elemental resistance potions such as
Fire Protection Potion.
They have transmutes, flasks for raids, and can make tons of the NEW Forever materials that will feed into other professions. They can make
Recipe: Transmute Legionite which makes the really cool blacksmithing gear, and can make dye's such as
Cerulean Dye which lots of tailoring recipes need.
However, almost all of this can be brought or sold on the auction house, so the only real reason to take this, is if you want to craft your own stuff, sell potions, or just like the aesthetic of
Alchemy.
Similar with
Engineering, now coming into WoW Forever, we now have a ton of recipes that are no longer bind on pick up. So we can buy lots of these consumables and throwables on the auction house. The main reason to take engineering is if you are a
Hunter, or want to go very hard on PvP. We don't fully know how endgame will scale, but engineering could give MASSIVE dps boosts for endgame raiding too, but its too early to tell.
