Overview

The Hall of Thanes is a newly added dungeon in WoW Forever. With it's grand and cavernous presentation it should be no surprise that this is a tomb for the previous kings of Ironforge. With that in mind, it is Alliance only.

This new dungeon is for levels 13 - 17 and, whilst this is absolutely doable, having a party that sits around level 15 makes this new World of Warcraft Forever dungeon much more enjoyable. There are some areas which are surprisingly mechanically demanding and can quickly spiral when not managed effectively!

Faldrim Anvilmar

Mechanics

Faldrim is the first boss you will come across in The Hall of Thanes. He can be found patrolling around his own tomb in the large central room which you will gain access to via the west wing at the start of the dungeon. It is a very simple fight, very much a tank and spank. He applies a curse so ensure that aggro is maintained by the tank to prevent this curse being applied to multiple targets.

The curse turns you to stone and slows your attack speed by 20%. You will want to utilize Remove Curse if possible to alleviate this effect!

Magmatus

Mechanics

Magmatus is the second boss you will come across in The Hall of Thanes. He is a large fire elemental that can pack a surprising punch if he is not managed correctly. His most dangerous attack is combust. This is a large 360 degree AoE that will damage everyone significantly if stood within it. The tank must therefore turn the boss away from the party and any melee dps need to be very mindful of this. Your healer will not thank you if you stack up!

Magmatus is situated in perhaps the most dangerous part of the dungeon and it is recommended that the tank uses ranged pulls and then line of sights casters to drag them together. Polymorph is incredibly effective against engineers in this area, so too is Sap. Here are some key considerations to be mindful of:

  • Bloodhound Runts: non-elites, inflict a disease debuff that increases damage taken by 6.
  • Dark Iron Looter - These can be focused down with not too much trouble.
  • Dark Iron Summoner: Casts fireballs and summons fire elementals. Both of these can be managed with timed interrupts.
  • Dark Iron Engineer: Throws dynamite, which does AoE damage. Polymorph or Sap when possible.

Plunder

Mechanics

Plunder is the third boss you will encounter in Halls of Thanes. It is quite a soon after the Magmatus fight and requires the same careful co-ordination on the approach to his chamber in regard to cc'ing, watching for patrols and breaking lines of sight on mobs. The fight itself is another tank and spank but Plunder will occasionally knock everyone around him up in the air in large AoE. His most dangerous move is a periodic charge which targets a random party member. This also temporarily stuns the target and can be a little dicey if it is the healer and party members have become low. The tank must be ready to Taunt when necessary. It is also imperative that you pull this boss on his own and do not drag any of the adds into the equation! It is best to pull the boss back into the tunnel you approach him from as this is a more enclosed space and makes managing his charges and knockbacks much easier.

Durgen Dirgehammer

Mechanics

The fourth and final boss of The Halls of Thane Dungeon is Durgen Dirgehammer. He is accompanied by 2 stone golems which will need to be nuked down quickly as they can do some surprisingly decent damage, especially if you ignore them. Durgen himself can apply a bleed and also casts an AoE fear which, much like the previous fight, can be incredibly disruptive if cast at a tricky time. This fight can quickly spiral, creating a sitaution where multiple party members are taking big damage. Ensure that the tank is listened to and that keeping things well-organized on the aggro front is an absolute priority!
