Overview

Welcome to the WoW Forever Holy Paladin Guide. This guide shows you the recommended talents for your journey to level 30 in the Classic Forever Beta, as well as our expected level 60 build. The Holy Paladin is a durable healer that brings the bonuses of Auras, Blessings and a long stun to the party. They're fantastic as keeping 1 target alive and can use Blessing of Protection to save an ally from an approaching death. Paladin's got a new talent in WoW Forever called Light's Vigil. This spell is going to be fantastic for this class since they had literally no way to AOE heal before. We won't get to play around with this in the BETA, but on launch you'll be able to combine this with Holy Shock to AOE heal an entire raid in just a few globals.

The Holy Paladin does well if you plan to play with friends and do a lot of Dungeons. If you're going to be spending a lot of time solo questing I recommend checking out our our Retribution Paladin Guide.

For the full rundown of every Paladin talent, ability and race change this expansion, see our Paladin Class Overview & Changes.

Disclaimer

This is a work in progress and will be updated with complete information during the BETA and launch of WoW Forever. The final guide will cover the following: BIS equipment, Talent Trees, Rotations, Professions and more.

Talents

Level 30 Talents (21,0,0)

  1. Start with 5 points in Divine Intellect.
  2. Next get 3 points in Healing Light and 2 points in Spiritual Focus.
  3. 3/3 Reverence and 2/2 Purifying Power.
  4. Pick up Divine Favor and then put 4 points into Illumination.
  5. Put your last point into Holy Shock.

Level 60 Talents (33/12/5)

Here's a look at what we think the level 60 Holy Paladin Talent Tree will look like. As mentioned above this guide will be updated as we go through the beta and during launch to include any other Endgame Holy Paladin Talent Trees, along with all the other information you need to excel in the endgame and Raids as a Paladin.

Suggested Races

Playable Races

Alliance - Human, Dwarf

Horde - Undead

Recommended Races

Human is a better choice if you solely plan to play Holy on your Paladin since they have The Human Spirit as a passive. If you plan on doing any Protection or Retribution play then go with Dwarf.

Dwarf provides 3 useful abilities and is probably the best race for leveling to 30 as Alliance. Mace Specialization gives you 1% crit when using a mace. Stoneform grants you immunities and Physical Damage Reduction and Big Game Hunter increases you damage to beasts (which you'll see a lot of while leveling up).

Undead - Well it's not like we really have a choice here! Luckily Undead has the brand new Touch of the Grave Passive which sometimes drains 5% health from enemies with your attacks (not really that great for a Holy Paladin, but it's what we have. Will of the Forsaken is nice to remove Charm, Fear and Sleep and being able to Cannibalize between pulls will certainly be appreciated by whoever is healing you.

See our full racial abilities guide for every other race's bonuses.

Gameplay

The primary Skills you’ll use are Flash of Light and Holy Light. If nothing else healing on a Paladin is simple.

  • Remember to have down ranked version of Holy Light on your bars and use this as much as you can get away with to retain Mana.
  • If your lower rank heal isn't getting the job done try 1 rank higher. You can let your tank fall behind a little bit then use a max rank Holy Light to top them off.
  • Flash of Light is a faster cast that heals for less and Holy Shock is your (uh-oh) spell when you need a instant heal to save someone from death.
  • It's really all about just finding a balance between spamming Flash of Light or Holy Light on your tank/party and finding what ranks get the job done.

As an example my action bar when leveling on Holy Paladin is the following:
Max Flash of Light, Rank 1 Holy Light, Rank 2 Holy Light, Max Holy Light, Holy Shock

One of the primary reasons for this playstyle is because you get the talent Illumination, read it a few times and make sure you understand it. You can ever consider dropping the point in Holy Shock to get 5/5 for this BETA so every critical strike you get gives you that mana back.

Finally I'll mention Lay on Hands. This spell has a long cooldown and is reserved for the most dire of situations. It will completely drain your mana to heal the tank for the value of YOUR maximum health. Don't use this unless you absolutely have to, OR if you are out of mana anyway, it's a great way to get a huge heal on the tank when you have no other option.

Remember that Paladins bring powerful Blessings and Auras to a group. Apply the proper buff to your teammates and don't forget about utility skills like Blessing of Protection to save a friend who pulls threat. Skills like Hammer of Justice can stun an enemy for several seconds and Divine Shield can save yourself from an incoming death.

Check our WoW Forever tier list to see how Paladin stacks up against other classes.

Things to Remember

  • Visit your Class Trainer often to get your new skills so you have high rank heals when you need them.
  • You need mana to heal, if a tank or party is chain pulling enemies and not staying aware of how much mana you have, say something if it's going to cause problems.
  • you can remove a Disease and Poison from an ally using Purify
  • You can put Seal of Light or Seal of Wisdom on bosses to your party can regen some health or mana on hit. Just determine if your party is mostly melee or casters and pick one.

Stat Priority

A Holy Paladin benefits the most from Intellect and Spirit. Intellect increases your total Mana and spell critical strike chance. Spirit increases your regeneration when out of combat. Stamina is never a bad choice either, if you're healing a group and end up taking some hits Stamina can be the difference between living and dying.

On top of this I want to mention how important Critical Chance is on a Paladin. Illumination is one of your most important Talents. In the endgame especially, if you have high chance to crit and a lot of Intellect you are going to be an unstoppable healing machine.

Group Play & Dungeons

Just remember that in a group it's up to you to keep everyone alive not just the tank. Always prioritize the tank first but make sure you aren't letting your other allies wither away during fights.

Tips

  • Don't forget to buff your teammates! Blessing of Kings, Blessing of Wisdom and Blessing of Might are all incredible buffs. Don't forget to rebuff allies after they've been Resurrected.
  • Blessing of Protection and Hammer of Justice can be used to save an ally that is about to die. Remember if you use it on a tank the enemies attacking them will drop threat and go for someone else. But desperate times for desperate measures!
  • If you're ever in danger use Divine Shield to give yourself immunity and prevent your demise.

Macros

Focus Target Blessing of Protection

If you notice a party member pulling threat off the tank constantly put them as your focus target. This macro will automatically target them (your focus target) if you ever need to quickly cast Blessing of Protection on them so they don't get sliced to death by an incoming enemy.
