Overview

Greetings weary traveler and welcome to my comprehensive 1-60 for Beast Mastery Hunters!

I've played Hunter since the early private server days and after all these years, it's still my favorite class in WoW. Nothing else quite captures that fluid, high-finesse gameplay. The melee weaving, the kiting, the crazy pet tricks, and the absolute mastery of the open world. Between Eagle Eye, tracking abilities, and addons like UnitScan, you can hunt anyone down friend or foe and the insane amount of control over how you navigate and interact with the world is best in class.

That's what I've always loved most about Hunter. The independence and skill expression. You can scout, solo, and farm just about anything you need on your own. And the better you get at the class, the more possibilities open up.

And WoW Forever has A LOT to be excited about! Pets finally scale with your gear, we have powerful new pet abilities, Summon Hawk, and the ability to drop traps in combat. Beast Mastery in particular is getting some really interesting tools that reward good pet management and mechanical finesse.

In this guide, I'm bringing together over a decade of Hunter experience and my hands-on Forever Beta testing to cover everything you need from 1 to 60. Talents, rotations, pets, weapon progression, advanced mechanics, and all the little tricks that separate a good Hunter from a GREAT one.

  1. Levels 41–45: Lethal Attacks (5/5)
  2. Levels 46–48: Hawk Eye (3/3)
  3. Levels 49–53: Careful Aim (5/5)
  4. Level 54: Lone Wolf (1/1)

  6. Levels 56–60: Mortal Shots (5/5)

Beast Mastery Talents (Levels 10–40)

Levels 10–14: Deadly Aspects (5/5)

For pure speedrunning, I recommend Deadly Aspects. The attack speed procs are excellent, especially if you're consistently keeping your ranged weapon upgraded.

However, after leveling two Hunters on the Beta, I actually preferred Endurance Training on my second character. When you're already pumping damage with a strong bow and good ammunition, your pet's survivability can become the bigger bottleneck.

Both are excellent choices. Go Deadly Aspects for maximum offensive potential, or Endurance Training if you want a tankier pet and smoother solo leveling.

Levels 15–16: Focused Fire (2/2)

A straightforward 2% damage increase for both you and your pet. Very efficient for just two talent points.

Levels 17–18: Pathfinding (2/2)

Increases the movement speed bonus from Aspect of the Cheetah by 6%. Movement speed is king while leveling, especially before your mount.

Level 19: Improved Revive Pet (1/2)

Our first flex point. Reduces Revive Pet's cast time by 3 seconds, Mana cost by 20%, and improves the Health your pet returns with. A nice insurance policy when things go sideways.

Level 20: Bestial Swiftness (1/1)

A MASSIVE quality-of-life upgrade. Your pet moves 30% faster, including indoors in Forever. Less time chasing targets means more damage, faster threat generation, and smoother pulls.

Levels 21–24: Unleashed Fury (4/5)

Provides 12% additional damage to your pets and Hawks. Reliable, unconditional damage beats investing heavily into Critical Strike Chance this early.

Level 25: Summon Hawk (1/1)

One of the strongest talent points in the entire tree! Excellent damage per Mana, strong sustained damage, and you can maintain two Hawks simultaneously. In my Beta testing, this was a HUGE power spike.

Level 26: Unleashed Fury (5/5)

Finish the talent for 15% increased pet and Hawk damage. Now that we have Summon Hawk, we're getting even more value from every point.

Levels 27–29: Ferocity (3/5)

Provides 6% additional Critical Strike Chance to your pets and Hawks. We're also building toward Frenzy, which converts pet critical strikes into additional attack speed.

Level 30: Intimidation (1/1)

An incredible tool for managing threat. Your pet stuns the target for 3 seconds, generates substantial threat, and gains a guaranteed critical strike on its next attack. One of the best control buttons in your toolkit.

Levels 31–32: Ferocity (5/5)

Finish for 10% additional pet and Hawk Critical Strike Chance. This becomes even more valuable once we unlock Frenzy.

Levels 33–34: Bestial Discipline (2/2)

20% more pet Focus regeneration AND 50% of your Mana regeneration continues while casting. More pet ability usage, better threat, and improved Mana sustainability. Really strong in Forever.

Levels 35–38: Frenzy (4/5)

Your pet has an 80% chance to gain 30% attack speed for 8 seconds after critting. With Ferocity maxed, four points should provide excellent uptime without needing the fifth.

Level 39: Spirit Bond (1/2)

Our final flex point before Bestial Wrath. Provides 1% Health regeneration every 10 seconds for you and your pet. Nothing game-breaking, but it's passive sustain for the rest of your leveling journey.

Level 40: Bestial Wrath (1/1)

The ultimate Beast Mastery cooldown. Your pet gains 50% damage for 18 seconds and becomes immune to most crowd control effects. Fantastic for elites, difficult encounters, and PvP.

Marksmanship Talents (Levels 41–60)

Levels 41–45: Lethal Attacks (5/5)

5% additional Critical Strike Chance for all your attacks. With pets inheriting your Critical Strike Chance in Forever, this becomes especially valuable for Beast Mastery. More damage for you and more crits for your pet.

Levels 46–48: Hawk Eye (3/3)

An additional 6 yards of ranged attack range. I LOVE this talent. More room for kiting, earlier engagement, and greater control over positioning. It's not necessarily the mathematically fastest choice, but the practical utility is excellent.

Levels 49–53: Careful Aim (5/5)

Converts 100% of your Intellect into Attack Power. This provides additional offensive scaling from a stat we naturally accumulate on Hunter gear. The Attack Power also contributes to our pet scaling in Forever.

Level 54: Lone Wolf (1/1)

Grants 20% additional damage while you don't have an active pet. This is a situational petless option, but it provides no benefit during normal Beast Mastery gameplay. I'd actually replace this point with a second rank of Rapid Killing.

Level 55: Rapid Killing (1/2)

Reduces Rapid Fire's cooldown by 1 minute and gives your next Shot 10% increased damage after killing an eligible enemy. Great for chaining kills while questing.

Levels 56–60: Mortal Shots (5/5)

Increases the Critical Strike damage bonus of your ranged abilities by 30%. With Lethal Attacks already providing 5% additional crit, this is an excellent way to finish our build.

Gameplay & Rotation

Beast Mastery is one of the most fluid and mechanically rewarding leveling specs in WoW Forever. Between melee weaving, kiting, pet micro, and managing multiple sources of damage, there's A LOT of room for skill expression.

The biggest thing to understand is that Hunter doesn't have a rigid rotation while leveling. Your ability priority changes depending on how long an enemy will live, your current Mana, and how much threat your pet can generate.

The goal is to maximize damage while minimizing downtime. Good Hunters don't just kill mobs quickly. They're already moving toward the next objective while doing it!

Levels 1 to 4: Early Melee Weaving

I highly recommend grinding starting zone mobs until level 4 before committing to your questing route. These enemies are weak, have forgiving movement speeds, and provide opportunities for early bags and silver.

This is also the PERFECT time to practice melee weaving.

  • Open with Auto Shot and immediately begin repositioning.
  • Shoot another target while the first enemy approaches.
  • Use Raptor Strike and melee auto attacks when enemies reach you.
  • Continue firing Auto Shot at other targets between melee swings.

Your ranged and melee swing timers operate independently, so you can squeeze additional damage out of both weapons. Try to develop this rhythm early!

Levels 4 to 10: Arcane Shot and Kiting

At 4, you unlock Serpent Sting but don't get too attached to it. The early rank deals fairly underwhelming damage.

At 6, Arcane Shot becomes your primary Mana spender. Rank 1 hits surprisingly hard, and I'd generally prioritize it over Serpent Sting during these early levels.

Basic rotation:

  1. Hunter's Mark when worthwhile.
  2. Auto Shot to initiate combat.
  3. Arcane Shot for additional burst damage.
  4. Continue weaving Auto Shot and Raptor Strike.

At 8, Concussive Shot is a HUGE upgrade. You can now reliably slow enemies, create distance, and kite toward your next objective.

Make a habit of moving between shots rather than standing still and trading hits.

Levels 10 to 16: Your Pet Changes Everything

Get your pet immediately at 10! This is your first major power spike and completely changes how you approach combat.

Your pet should be dealing consistent damage, generating threat, and allowing you to attack safely from range.

Basic rotation:

  1. Send your pet into the target.
  2. Apply Hunter's Mark when worthwhile.
  3. Begin attacking with Auto Shot.
  4. Use Arcane Shot when you need additional damage.
  5. Start positioning for your next pull.

Don't feel like your pet needs to hold threat perfectly on every enemy. You can deliberately juggle threat between yourself and your pet to keep enemies moving in a productive direction.

Also, make sure your pet has a reliable Focus spender and that you're keeping its abilities upgraded.

Levels 16 to 25: Immolation Trap and Melee Weaving

At 16, you unlock Immolation Trap, one of your most Mana-efficient damage abilities.

This changes how I approach melee weaving in Forever.

Rather than running into melee range every time Raptor Strike is available, I prefer combining Raptor Strike and Immolation Trap into the same melee weaving opportunity.

Example rotation:

  1. Send your pet and open with Auto Shot.
  2. Apply Serpent Sting if the enemy will survive long enough.
  3. Continue shooting until your next ranged attack fires.
  4. Move into melee range, use Raptor Strike, and drop Immolation Trap.
  5. Return to ranged distance and continue attacking.

You're getting value from both swing timers while applying a powerful damage over time effect.

At 20, you also unlock Aimed Shot as a baseline ability. It has a 2-second cast and shares a cooldown with Multi-Shot.

Aimed Shot is excellent when you can safely stand still and pump damage into a high-health enemy, particularly dungeon bosses. For regular questing, maintaining mobility is often more valuable.

Levels 25 to 30: Summon Hawk Changes the Rotation

This is where things start getting REALLY interesting!

At 25, Summon Hawk becomes available through the Beast Mastery talent tree, and it's one of our biggest leveling power spikes.

Summon Hawk deals initial damage through its dive attack, then continues attacking the target. You can have two Hawks active simultaneously, even against a single enemy.

It also shares a cooldown with Arcane Shot, effectively replacing it as our preferred Mana spender in fights where the Hawks have time to deal their damage.

Suggested single-target rotation:

  1. Send your pet and begin attacking with Auto Shot.
  2. Cast Summon Hawk.
  3. Apply Immolation Trap when you can safely get into position.
  4. Cast your second Summon Hawk after the 6-second cooldown.
  5. Maintain Serpent Sting on longer fights.
  6. Continue dealing damage with Auto Shot.

Against longer-lived enemies, you can effectively stack three damage over time effects through Summon Hawk, Immolation Trap, and Serpent Sting.

This is incredibly efficient when everything gets its full duration, but don't waste Mana setting up effects on enemies that are about to die.

Use Multi-Shot when fighting multiple targets and Aimed Shot when you have an opportunity to stand still and maximize single-target damage.

Levels 30 to 40: Intimidation and Frenzy

At 30, we unlock Intimidation, one of the most powerful additions to our toolkit.

Intimidation stuns your target for 3 seconds, generates substantial pet threat, and guarantees a critical strike on your pet's next attack.

This is fantastic for recovering threat when you've been pumping too hard, controlling dangerous enemies, or helping trigger Frenzy once you unlock it.

Frenzy provides your pet with 30% increased attack speed after critically striking, further improving its sustained damage and threat generation.

Your core rotation remains similar to the previous bracket, but you now have additional tools to keep your pet in control.

You also gain Feign Death at 30, which opens up an entirely new world of threat manipulation and survival options.

Try to manage threat with your pet and Disengage first, keeping Feign Death available when you REALLY need it.

Levels 40 to 60: Bestial Wrath and Your Full Toolkit

At 40, we unlock Bestial Wrath, our signature Beast Mastery cooldown.

This gives your pet a massive damage steroid and crowd control immunity, making it excellent for elites, difficult quest encounters, and PvP.

By this point, the rotation is less about learning new fundamentals and more about knowing when to use everything you've accumulated.

Ability Priorities:

  1. Keep your pet actively attacking and generating threat.
  2. Use Summon Hawk for efficient sustained damage.
  3. Apply Immolation Trap and Serpent Sting when their durations justify the Mana cost.
  4. Use Multi-Shot for multiple targets or Aimed Shot when you can safely cast.
  5. Use Intimidation to control enemies or recover pet threat.
  6. Activate Bestial Wrath and Rapid Fire for difficult encounters or opportunities to deal heavy damage.

Remember, you don't need to press every button on every mob.

Against ordinary quest mobs, your pet, Hawks, and Auto Shot already provide excellent sustained damage.

Against elites and dungeon bosses, you can afford to layer your damage over time effects and make full use of your cooldowns.

The 40 to 60 priorities are based on the planned talent progression and will need additional testing as Forever's higher levels become available.

Mana Efficiency and Ability Priority

One of the biggest mistakes you can make while leveling Hunter is trying to maximize DPS at the expense of Mana efficiency.

Based on my Beta testing, Immolation Trap provides some of the best damage per Mana available to Hunters, followed by Summon Hawk and Serpent Sting, although their relative efficiency changes with ability ranks.

The important distinction is how long your target actually survives.

  • Short fights: Prioritize Auto Shot, pet damage, and immediate damage when needed.
  • Medium fights: Summon Hawk becomes extremely attractive, especially when its attacks have time to connect.
  • Long fights and elites: Stack Summon Hawk, Immolation Trap, and Serpent Sting while maintaining ranged attacks.
  • Multiple targets: Take advantage of Multi-Shot, your traps, and intelligent pet positioning.

And don't forget about Rapid Fire. It's an extremely strong cooldown, so don't sit on it forever waiting for the perfect encounter.

The best Hunter rotation is the one that kills enemies efficiently without forcing you to constantly stop and drink. Master that balance, keep moving, and you'll absolutely fly through the leveling process.

Pets

Your pet is the backbone of Beast Mastery leveling, and WoW Forever has made some MASSIVE improvements to how pets work. We now have gear scaling, new family abilities, and significantly more utility to play around with.

Pet choice is no longer just about which family deals the most damage. Mobility, threat generation, survivability, and utility all matter, especially when you're spending 60 levels out in the open world.

Pet Scaling in WoW Forever

One of the biggest changes is that pets finally scale with your gear! This is HUGE for Beast Mastery and makes stats like Critical Strike Chance even more valuable.

Based on my Beta testing, pets inherit the following stats:

  • Hunter Stat Pet Scaling
  • Critical Strike Chance: Inherits 100%
  • Attack Power: Inherits 10% of your highest AP source
  • Armor: Inherits 30%
  • Stamina: Inherits 2 Pet Health per 1 Stamina

The biggest takeaway is the 100% Critical Strike scaling. Every 1% Critical Strike Chance you gain also benefits your pet. This creates some powerful synergy with talents like Ferocity and Frenzy, which reward frequent pet critical strikes.

Pets can no longer receive standard player buffs or stat scrolls directly, but their new scaling helps compensate for that.

Best Pets for Leveling

There are a lot of viable options in Forever, but these are the families I'd pay the most attention to.

Crocolisk:

Dismember provides a Mortal Strike style healing reduction. My top recommendation for PvP servers

Boar:

Charge gives you excellent target acquisition and early leveling utility

Wolf:

Furious Howl has been buffed and provides useful offensive support

Spider:

Web adds valuable crowd control for kiting and PvP

Cat:

Convenient early offensive pet with access to Bite

Turtle:

Defensive utility through Shell Shield, making it worth considering for tougher encounters

Crocolisk: My PvP Favorite

Dismember is one of the strongest new pet abilities in Forever. It applies a healing reduction effect, which is incredibly valuable against enemy players and mobs that can heal.

The downside is mobility. Crocolisks don't have Dash, so reaching targets can be frustrating.

Still, if you're leveling on a PvP server and want one pet with serious kill pressure, I'd strongly consider a Crocolisk.

Boar: Excellent Early Leveling Pet

Boars are fantastic because Charge helps them connect with enemies quickly and start generating threat.

This is particularly valuable while questing, where your pet is constantly traveling between targets. Less time running means more time attacking.

Wolf: Strong All-Around Choice

Wolves have access to Furious Howl, which received improvements in Forever.

They're a great general-purpose option, especially if you can find one with useful ability ranks already trained.

Best Starting Pets at Level 10

Get your pet immediately at 10! Don't waste time traveling across the world looking for some theoretical best-in-slot pet.

Here are a few convenient starting options:

  • Tauren: Plains Wolf Alpha near the Mulgore border, with Rank 2 Bite and Furious Howl.
  • Night Elf: Nightsaber with Bite.
  • Orc: Crab along the Durotar coastline or a Scorpid for additional damage over time.
  • Dwarf: Boar with Charge.

The most important thing is getting a pet with a reliable Focus spender and keeping its abilities upgraded as you level.

Pet Abilities and Focus Management

Pet DPS is only valuable when your pet is actually attacking.

This is why abilities like Dash and Charge are so useful. Closing the distance faster improves damage uptime and allows your pet to begin generating threat sooner.

You also want your pet consistently spending Focus instead of sitting at the cap. Keep abilities like Bite and other family-specific attacks trained to appropriate ranks.

Don't overlook pet survivability, either. During my Beta leveling, I found that keeping my pet alive was often a bigger bottleneck than my own damage output.

A slightly tankier pet that maintains threat and stays alive can be more useful than a theoretically higher DPS pet that constantly needs healing or reviving.

Ultimately, there's no single pet that's best for every situation. Pick one that complements how you play, keep its abilities updated, and learn to control it properly. That's where the REAL value comes from.

Pet Control & Threat

Mastering pet control is one of the biggest skill differentiators for Hunter. Your pet isn't just there to tank mobs. It's a tool for manipulating threat, controlling enemy positioning, and pulling off some pretty insane plays in the open world.

Managing Pet Threat

Good Hunters constantly juggle threat between themselves and their pets. You can deliberately pull aggro, kite enemies in a productive direction, and let your pet regain threat while continuing to attack.

  • Disengage: Your first line of defense when you need to dump threat back onto your pet. Its threat reduction has been doubled in Forever!
  • Intimidation: Generates massive pet threat while stunning the target for 3 seconds. Essentially an emergency taunt and a fantastic way to regain control.
  • Feign Death: Your ultimate threat reset and escape tool. Try to create some distance before using it to reduce the chance of failure.

Pet Move Command

One of my FAVORITE additions in Forever is the new Pet Move command. You can now position your pet anywhere without physically walking there yourself.

This opens up some incredible possibilities:

  1. Use Pet Move to establish a position away from an enemy or quest objective.
  2. Send your pet to attack the enemy.
  3. Command your pet to return to its designated position, dragging the enemy away.
  4. Loot the chest, grab the quest item, or reposition yourself while the enemy is distracted.

You can take this even further by alternating threat between yourself and your pet using ranged attacks and Feign Death.

Essential Pet Micro

I strongly recommend binding Pet Attack and Pet Passive to easily accessible keys. Personally, I like using mouse wheel forward and backward.

Your pet should NEVER be something you just leave on autopilot.

  • Recall your pet before it pulls additional enemies.
  • Reposition it to avoid dangerous damage.
  • Send it toward your next target while finishing the current one.
  • Use Mend Pet proactively rather than waiting until your pet is nearly dead.

The biggest takeaway: Your pet gives you control over encounters that other classes simply don't have. The better your pet micro, the more aggressively and efficiently you can play.

Hunter Mechanics

Hunter has one of the highest skill ceilings in Classic WoW, and Forever adds even more layers. Understanding swing timers, Mana efficiency, and ability interactions is what separates a good Hunter from a GREAT one.

Auto Shot & Melee Weaving

Your ranged and melee swing timers operate independently, allowing you to weave Raptor Strike between Auto Shot attacks without resetting your ranged swing timer.

However, Auto Shot still requires a brief windup, so proper timing is essential to avoid clipping your shots.

With Multi-Shot now on a 6-second cooldown, melee weaving is less attractive than in Classic. I recommend prioritizing clean ranged attacks and weaving when you can also get value from Immolation Trap.

Ranged Combat & Kiting

Ranged physical attacks cannot be dodged, parried, or result in glancing blows. This gives Hunters a HUGE advantage when fighting higher level enemies, although your attacks can still miss.

You also retain the 8-yard dead zone, making proper spacing essential.

Use Concussive Shot, pet threat, and movement between Auto Shot attacks to keep enemies at a comfortable distance while progressing toward your next objective.

Mana Efficiency

Not all abilities are created equal when it comes to damage per Mana (DPM).

Based on my Beta calculations:

  1. Immolation Trap: Exceptional DPM when its full damage applies.
  2. Summon Hawk: Excellent sustained damage and Mana efficiency.
  3. Serpent Sting: Strong on longer fights, but wasteful when enemies die early.

These rankings fluctuate with spell ranks and encounter duration. The key is getting full value from your Mana, not blindly pressing every ability on cooldown.

Important Ability Interactions

  • Aimed Shot / Multi-Shot: Share a cooldown. Use Aimed Shot when you can safely stand still for its 2-second cast, or Multi-Shot for cleave and mobility.
  • Arcane Shot / Summon Hawk: Share a cooldown. Summon Hawk generally wins on sustained damage, while Arcane Shot provides immediate burst.
  • Fire and Frost Traps: Can be placed during combat and have independent 30-second cooldowns. You can use Freezing Trap and Immolation Trap during the same encounter!

The biggest takeaway: Hunter optimization is about squeezing more value out of every second. Minimize wasted movement, avoid clipping Auto Shot, and spend Mana where it actually makes a difference.

Weapon Progression

Weapon progression is important for Hunter, but there's a bit of nuance here. Unlike Warrior, you don't need to chase every possible weapon upgrade. With a strong pet and up-to-date ammunition, you'll often find yourself limited more by pet threat than your actual damage output.

Ranged Weapon Progression

There are some excellent vendor bows and guns available while leveling, particularly around levels 3, 11, 14, and 16. These are easy upgrades that don't require going out of your way.

Two major weapons to aim for:

  • Master Hunter's Bow: Reward from the Big Game Hunter quest in Stranglethorn Vale. This is a HUGE upgrade that you can obtain surprisingly early with some help.
  • Verdant Keeper's Aim: Reward from the Corruption of Earth and Seed quest in Maraudon. An incredible weapon that can comfortably carry you toward endgame.

My advice: Don't waste hours chasing minor upgrades. Prioritize weapons you can obtain naturally through your leveling route.

Melee Weapons

Melee weapons primarily provide stats, but weapon damage also matters if you're actively melee weaving.

Look for weapons with useful Agility, Stamina, Intellect, or other offensive stats. A strong melee weapon is a nice bonus, but your ranged weapon should generally take priority.

Ammunition & Scopes

Keeping your ammunition upgraded is one of the easiest ways to improve your damage. Check vendors regularly and stock up before long questing sessions.

Scopes are another excellent investment, particularly when you acquire a ranged weapon you expect to use for several levels.

Gear Priorities

Prioritize useful offensive stats without completely neglecting survivability. In Forever, your pet also benefits from your Critical Strike Chance, Attack Power, Armor, and Stamina, making gear upgrades valuable for BOTH of you.

The biggest takeaway: Keep your ranged weapon and ammunition reasonably updated, grab the major guaranteed upgrades, and don't let unnecessary gear farming slow down your leveling.

Stat Priority

Hunter stats are more interesting in WoW Forever thanks to pet scaling. Your gear now improves both your damage and your pet's performance.

  • Agility / Critical Strike: Our most attractive offensive stats. Pets inherit 100% of your Critical Strike Chance, creating excellent synergy with Frenzy.
  • Attack Power: Increases your personal damage, while your pet inherits 10% of your highest Attack Power source.
  • Intellect: Provides Mana and becomes especially valuable with Careful Aim, which converts 100% of your Intellect into Attack Power.
  • Stamina / Armor: Improve survivability for BOTH you and your pet. Pets inherit 30% of your Armor and gain 2 Health per point of Stamina.

The biggest takeaway: Prioritize strong ranged weapons and offensive stats, but don't underestimate pet survivability. In Forever, a healthy pet means better threat control, less downtime, and ultimately faster leveling.

Races

When it comes to pure leveling speed, Night Elf and Troll are my top picks for Hunter in WoW Forever. However, PvP and racial utility can definitely change the equation.

Alliance

Night Elf (S Tier)

My favorite Alliance choice! You get 2% passive movement speed, Shadowmeld, and a powerful on-demand Critical Strike racial. With pets inheriting 100% of your crit, this becomes an INSANE offensive cooldown for Beast Mastery.

Skyborne

An underrated option thanks to their Leyline regeneration mechanic, which can significantly reduce downtime. Great for sustained questing.

Dwarf / Human

Both are worth considering on PvP servers, where defensive racials and utility can outweigh small leveling speed advantages.

Horde

Troll (S Tier)

My preferred Horde choice for speedrunning. Bonus damage against Beasts, passive Health regeneration, and a powerful channeled heal make Trolls incredibly efficient. Less time eating means more time leveling!

Tauren

Plainsrunning is AMAZING during the early levels and remains useful after unlocking Aspect of the Cheetah. Maintaining the movement speed bonus requires some finesse, but optimized play can get serious value from it.

Orc

A solid all-around option with offensive racial utility, although I find Troll's sustain more impactful for pure leveling efficiency.

My recommendation: Night Elf for Alliance and Troll for Horde if you're focused on leveling speed. For PvP servers, prioritize whichever racial toolkit complements your playstyle.

Macros

Good macros and keybinds are ESSENTIAL for high-level Hunter gameplay. Between melee weaving, pet micro, and threat management, you want your most important commands accessible without slowing down your rotation.

Essential Hunter Macros

  • Pet Attack / Passive: Your most important pet controls. I personally bind these to mouse wheel forward and backward for instant pet micro.
  • Auto Shot / Target Last Target: Makes juggling multiple enemies and swapping between ranged and melee targets much smoother.
  • Raptor Strike / Immolation Trap: One of my favorite combinations in Forever! Lets you weave a melee attack and drop a trap during the same close-range opportunity.
  • Feign Death: Keep this on a reliable keybind for emergency threat resets and escaping dangerous pulls.
  • Pet Move: A HUGE addition in Forever. Bind this somewhere accessible so you can reposition your pet, manipulate enemy pathing, and pull mobs away from objectives.

Recommended Keybinds

My biggest recommendation is to make Pet Attack and Pet Passive second nature. You should be issuing pet commands constantly, not clicking around on the pet action bar.

The better your macros and keybinds, the easier it becomes to execute clean melee weaves, maintain damage while moving, and pull off advanced threat manipulation.

Mastering your pet controls is one of the highest-impact improvements you can make as a Hunter.

Spell Training

You don't need to train every ability the moment it becomes available, but there are some HUGE power spikes you absolutely don't want to miss.

Summon Hawk, Intimidation, and Bestial Wrath come from talents rather than your class trainer.

Training Priorities

Prioritize Auto Shot damage, important ability ranks, and pet utility. Keep Multi-Shot, Immolation Trap, and your frequently used abilities upgraded as you level.

Don't forget your pet's abilities either! Upgrading Bite, Claw, and other relevant Focus spenders can make a noticeable difference in both damage and threat generation.

My advice: Plan trainer visits around major ability unlocks rather than constantly running back to town. Time spent traveling is time you aren't leveling!

Tips & Tricks

After playing Hunter for over a decade, I've picked up a few tricks that can make a HUGE difference in your leveling speed. These are some of my favorites!

Always Be Moving

One of Hunter's greatest strengths is dealing damage while traveling. Kite enemies toward your next objective, move between Auto Shot attacks, and start setting up your next pull before the current mob dies. Every second counts!

Abuse Ranged Combat

Ranged physical attacks can't be dodged, parried, or glance, making Hunters exceptionally good at fighting higher-level enemies. You can still miss, but combined with Concussive Shot and proper pet control, you can take down enemies that other classes would seriously struggle with.

Master Leashing

You can drag enemies enormous distances by periodically refreshing combat with a ranged attack. During my Forever Beta testing, I've found that refreshing every 7–8 seconds is a reliable rule of thumb, although leash behavior can vary.

This is incredibly useful for manipulating enemy positioning, skipping dangerous packs, and pulling mobs away from quest objectives.

Make Your Pet Do the Dirty Work

Need to grab a quest item surrounded by enemies? Use the new Pet Move command to position your pet, pull the mob away, and slip in to grab the objective.

You can take this even further by alternating threat between yourself and your pet using Feign Death. Once you understand these interactions, some pretty ridiculous solo strategies become possible.

Don't Overvalue DPS

This might sound counterintuitive, but more damage doesn't always mean faster leveling. If you're constantly pulling threat from your pet, drinking, or stopping to revive it, you're losing efficiency.

Sometimes a tankier pet, a more conservative rotation, or simply skipping an unnecessary weapon upgrade is the better play.

The biggest takeaway: Hunter rewards creativity and mechanical finesse more than almost any other class. The better you get at kiting, pet micro, and manipulating the open world, the more possibilities open up. That's what makes this class so damn fun!
