As soon as you reach level three during a Dooley run, you'll get to choose a Core (you'll be presented with three but there are currently seven in total).
Each one offers a different theme, strengths, and weaknesses, so Dooley players need to be versatile and adaptable.
Below, you'll see that many of the possible Cores involve strategically placing items to the left and right of it for various benefits to build around.
Damage Cores
Of the seven existing Cores, four of them are based around dealing Weapon Damage.
The Core is the most generic and versatile of the bunch. It deals a respectable amount of Damage, and like every other Core, it Charges itself when you use another item. Where it differs is its ability to Charge other items (positioned to the right of it). This opens a ton of possibilities to accelerate your slower items or turbo-Charge your fast ones.
Critical Core has the highest individual burst potential of any Core. Not only do Crits increase its Damage, they also Charge the Core, allowing more freedom when it comes to board positioning. Plus, with a reliable enough Crit Chance, the
Critical Core can even Charge itself!
Weaponized Core is more focused than the other two Damage Cores. It thrives on having multiple Weapons to take advantage of the repeatable Damage buff applied by the Core. Low Cooldown and Multicast Weapons let this Core truly shine, but even standalone it can scale to a reasonable threat.
Primal Core is more unique amongst the Damage-based Cores, as it specifically looks to support boards with Dinosaur and/or Relic Weapons. It's kind of like a different flavor of
Weaponized Core, but with more flexible positioning provided it's with the right setup.
Specialized Cores
The other three starting Cores don't deal any Weapon Damage, but instead offer their own unique abilities.
Armored Core is the most powerful defensive Core and enables a variety of Shield builds. It offers huge scaling capabilities that can greatly help withstand enemy attacks. And with the right supporting items or skills, sometimes a strong defense can turn into an even stronger offense.
Companion Core is the heart and center of Friend builds. It's the most specialized of the Cores as it only Charges via Friend items, but the reward is access to a very consistent source of Haste. There's a lot of variety in what you can build as long as your Friends work together!
Ignition Core is the damage over time Core in the form of Burn. But don't be fooled by its lack of Weapon Damage.. It's scaling Burn gets out of hand fast, often dealing more DPS (damage per second) than the Damage-based Cores.
Regardless of which Core you choose, don't ever feel pigeon-holed into playing that specific strategy. Oftentimes the best part of the Core is simply triggering any "When you use the Core" abilities of your other items. So whether you aim for full support, partial synergy, or ditch the Core entirely, all are valid and entirely up to you!
