How to Play Zaun — TFT Set 16: Lore & Legends

Zaun is a stat stick type of trait in some ways similar to Demacia. Zaunites become Shimmer-Fused which grants them stats including durability, attack speed, and health.

By playing additional Zaun units, your bonuses get stronger just like the shimmer all these units seem to be injecting themselves with. This comp will have multiple options for carries, but one in particular sticks out.

Vi and Jinx must be two starred in order to unlock Warwick who is a carry of the composition. However, you might as well look to 3 star your Jinx and Vi since you will be wanting to roll at level 7 to two star your Jinx easily and also have multiple shop options to see Warwick.

If you are very rich, you can even reroll at level 8. Ziggs of course is always an option for the late game carry as well and you have a chance of seeing him in level 8 shops.

How TFT Zaun Works

Zaun Trait Bonus

zaun trait

After 4 seconds, Zaunites become Shimmer-Fused, granting them 10% Durability and 90% decaying Attack Speed for 4 seconds.

After a short cooldown, they become Shimmer-Fused again.

  • (3) Refresh after 4 seconds.
  • (5) At 60% Health, Zaunites restore 25% Health over 3 seconds and instantly become Shimmer-Fused.
  • (7) Shimmer-Fused bonuses are increased by 30%. Refresh after 3 seconds instead.

Zaun Champions and Synergy

Zaun has the natural synergy of Juggernaut with Blitzcrank and Singed (if unlocked) with plenty of other options to weave in other traits due to it being a large vertical trait:

  • Blitzcrank (1G) - Juggernaut
  • Ekko (2G) - Disruptor
  • Vi (2G) - Piltover & Defender
  • Jinx (3G) - Gunslinger
  • Dr. Mundo (3G) - Bruiser
  • Warwick (4G) - Quickstriker
  • Singed (4G) - Juggernaut
  • Ziggs (5G) - Yordle & Longshot

The Zaun Trait

In the early game, you will want to look for Blitzcrank, Ekko, Vi, Jinx, and Dr. Mundo if possible. In a lot of cases, Zaun will want to reroll Vi and Jinx along with capping out with Warwick and Ziggs. Vi, Jinx, and Warwick all work together with Warwick’s takedowns causing Vi and Jinx to get additional attack speed.

In an ideal world, you would want to itemize all three of these units with 3 star Jinx and Vi and a 2 star Warwick for a high cap board.

TFT Zaun Champions

Blitzcrank (1G) - Juggernaut

tft set 16 blitzcrank

[Link to Champion Page]

Blitz is a Juggernaut with a basic ability of Static Field He gains (AP) shield for 4 seconds and deals (MR) magic damage to all enemies within 1 hex. In the past, we have seen 1 cost blitzcranks with overloaded abilities, so it is nice to see a 1 cost with simple shield and magic damage to enemies.

Ekko (2G) - Disruptor

tft set 16 ekko

[Link to Champion Page]

Ekko is a Disruptor which means he dazzles enemies - reducing their damage output by 10%. His ability Parallel Convergence is only 40 mana and he creates a 1 hex zone around the target that lasts 3 seconds.

The next 3 attacks deal (AP) bonus magic damage. When the zone ends, it deals (AP) magic damage plus a percent of the target’s damage taken during the duration to all enemies in the zone.

Vi (2G) - Piltover & Defender

tft set 16 vi

[Link to Champion Page]

Vi is a Defender on top of being part of Piltover - much to Jinx’s disgust. However, Jinx, Vi, and Warwick all work together in Zaun and want to be played together. Vi’s ability Relentless Force gives her (AP) shield for 2 seconds.

She slams a target dealing (AD) physical damage to enemies in a 1 hex range. Every third cast she deals (AD) damage in a 2 hex range instead and knocks up enemies hit for 1 second. This ability gives her utility that makes it feel better to reroll her along with Jinx.

Jinx (3G) - Gunslinger

tft set 16 jinx

[Link to Champion Page]

Jinx is a gunslinger with the ability Switcheroo for only 18 mana. She has a passive that after attacking 18/18/16 times she switches to Fishbones.

While Fishbones is equipped, attacks are replaced by 3 rockets that target random enemies and deal (AD) physical damage. This makes her the ideal backrow carry in this composition as she also works with Vi and Warwick.

Dr. Mundo (3G) - Bruiser

tft set 16 dr. mundo

[Link to Champion Page]

Dr. Mundo is a Bruiser - as he should be. His ability, Maximum Dosage is 80 mana where he bulks up for 5 seconds. While bulked, Mundo restores (Health & AP) health every second and attacks deal (Health & AD) physical damage.

It is possible that you might reroll Mundo with another 3 cost carry, but it seems unlikely for that to be Jinx in Zaun due to Vi, Jinx, and Warwick getting extra attack speed. However, if Mundo is very strong, then Mundo Jinx has a possibility of being a composition in Set 16.

Warwick (4G) - Quickstriker

tft set 16 warwick

[Link to Champion Page]

Warwick is an unlockable champion which requires you to field 2-star Jinx and 2-star Vi in order to start seeing him in your shops. Warwick is a carry in Zaun as he has the ability Eternal Hunger for 100 mana.

This ability lets him gain attack speed, omnivamp, increased movement speed, and he deals (AD) bonus physical damage on attack for the rest of combat.

While this effect is active, takedowns grant Warwick, Jinx, and Vi (AP) attack speed for 3 seconds. This makes these three Zaunites all work together and makes it so rerolling Jinx and Vi is a viable option for playing Zaun.

Singed (4G) - Juggernaut

tft set 16 singed

[Link to Champion Page]

Singed is unlocked by having at least 30 damage dealt to yourself and 4 Zaunites or Juggernauts. It is important to note that having 2 options here is really nice especially if you somehow miss on Zaunites.

This gives you an extra chance to be able to get Singed in your shops earlier especially if you started with a loss streak in the early game.

Singed has his signature ability - Poison Trail with a passive and an active. His passive is to run around the battlefield, leaving a position trail that lingers for 4 seconds. Poison trails deal (AP) magic damage per second to enemies within. He gains 10 (AS) mana each second.

His active is for 4 seconds, he gains increased movement speed, restoring (AP) health each second and gaining 50 armor and magic resistance.

Singed is the definition of a drain tank where he likely wants to have damage and a healing item so he can run around and sprinkle damage on everyone while healing up. He also could be a good debuff applier such as anti-heal as well as long as he doesn’t die too fast!

Ziggs (5G) - Yordle & Longshot

tft set 16 ziggs

[Link to Champion Page]

Ziggs has one of the most expensive spells in the game at a whopping 160 mana - Mega Inferno Bomb. His passive is: attacks are placed with a bomb that bounces 1 time, dealing (AD & AP) magic damage to units hit.

His active is: throw an enormous bomb at the largest 4-hex group of enemies that explodes on impact, dealing (AP) magic damage to enemies hit based on their distance from the epicenter.

With how expensive this ability cost on top of him being a 5 cost unit, I expect this bomb to wipe out most, if not all the board!

Zaun has a lot of player’s favorite Arcane units such as Vi, Jinx, and Warwick. I expect Zaun to be popular just for this reason as well as the fact that the trait is straightforward and has an enticing reroll direction with all the Arcane units as well.

Have fun reliving some Arcane!
