About this Build

Shield Crush

This is an age-old archetype of POE1 that revolves around a single skill: Shield Crush. The skill converts the defensive stats on your shield into flat damage.

Why Play this Build

The archetype is famous because it is ideal for DEEP DELVE content.

I find it fantastic for league start because:

  • From Level 10 on it CRUSHES campaign.
  • It does not slough off in early/mid-mapping on Day 1 (like many builds do with item dependencies).
  • It is not WEAPON stat dependent at all.
  • It is beautifully tanky
  • It has no end game content limitations.

How to Use this Guide

The BULK of this guide is a step-wise progression for campaign and mapping. This is a fairly standardized template I've used for many runs with success, and I've dedicated a lot of time to carefully outlining the progression for you (with the assumption that you are new to the build and maybe new to POE1 overall).

As I scale the endgame in 3.28, I will add end game variants that are specific to different content, with a special nod to DEEP DELVE, and to T16.5 Nightmare Map boss farming. Both of these content types will be lucrative this season.

Regex

I've provided a very CAREFULLY curated REGEX for Acts 1,2,3 and 6 (gem swap). Note the descriptions of each so you understand how it works.

Regex for Act 1:

    • Show various red+green links and movement speed
    • Highlights any potential shield, you have to manually check stats
    • Keep in mind that you always need a blue socket for Frostblink:

Regex for Act 2:

    • Shows 3-link Red/Green variations (does not show 2-link anymore)

Loot Filter

The loot filter is VERY specific to the progression for this build. It highlights and plays sounds for ALL shields you should check. And it will also begin hiding shields when you get to an area level of a higher tier shield you care about. Campaign filter:

Description

This is closer to what is needed to dominate all mapping content and/or to start pushing quite deep into Delve. The cost of what you see here is still not substantial, and while there are still some $$$ upgrades to come, you won't need them unless you start getting into some very difficult content (like deep delve).

Key acquisitions here are Ralakesh's Impatience (Endurance) and Arn's Anguish, and with a decent Lethal Pride (Rakiata Tempered by War) and a Large Cluster Jewel.

Passive Tree

Not too much to say here (and not much has changed except for the addition of the Large Cluster Jewel and the finalizing of the Ascendancy nodes).

Note that across the build, you want a source of each of the following:

1 --> Fortification generation

2 --> Rage generation

3 --> Impale infliction

These can come from various sources, but TAKE NOTICE that the Lethal Pride (Rakiata Tempered by War) generates RAGE, so the rage nodes from the tree can be dropped.

Gems

The archetype is simple so stil not much has changed. Notice the value of Sigil of Power both offensively and defensively. Because our playstyle is always standing still and attacking, it is a very powerful additive.

As far as reservation skills, at this point we go down to ONLY Pride, Determination, and Precision (supported by Arrogance Support). If you snag an Enlighten Support (which is very expensive early on in the league), then you can sneak Flesh and Stone back in with ease.

The selections are the same and also inherently obvious if you are this far along in the build.

One mention that's important is eventually we will convert Max Fire res to all res via Valako, Storm's Embrace on Forbidden Jewel combo. So if you are looking at basic jewels, you'll want to prioritize +to max FIRE over other options where possible.

Changes to campaign progression overall:

1 --> Pride is gone, Haste is gone, Precision is gone 2 --> Steelskin stays in the whole campaign 3 --> Auras are just 2x herald and BLood and Sand. Always Sand stance unless you are starved for more single target dmg in a situation 4 --> The opening of the tree is vastly different, this saves us 4 points which gives MUCH MORE value when we get to those points sooner. 5 --> The ascendancy order is totally different (from the initial publication) 6 --> We prioritize Frenzy charge first, then Frenzy + Endurance 7 --> We prioritize AOE, charge uptime, THEN fortify, THEN rage. These seem to all tag onto the build right when a boost is needed. 8 --> No Brutality in the campaign ( ele flat dmg from gear, added fire dmg support, and herald of ash is just too good )
