🚨Work in Progress, be sure to come by the Twitch Stream for the Newest Skill Tree and Gems as I'm changing it to test new things!🚨

This is my League Starter Guide for Monk in patch 0.3 The Third Edict. I'll focus on skills that will help you get through the campaign and get you into early mapping. I'll provide multiple skill options and shows the passive tree progress as you level up. Hollow Palm Technique will carry our Damage and make us feel like an MMA Fighter!

You'll be using Ice Strike for your main clear speed skill alongside Polcirkeln, Herald of Ice, and Shattering Palm for insane clear speed and damage. Single target is handled by Falling Thunder and Combo Stacking. This allows us to stack Combo and Power Charges to deal Millions of Damage in 1 use of the skill. The tech is a little complicated so watch the YouTube Video to understand the damage loop for Bosses.

With 0.3 they'll be adding Hollow Palm Technique which allows us to use Quarterstaff skills without wielding one. You can scale Attack Speed and Critical Hit Chance by increasing your Evasion and Energy Shield with this skill allowing us to attack insanely fast and cap out our Critical Hit Chance once in Endgame. I'll be including options for this as well.

No Unique Items are required but I will throw a couple out there as suggestions just in case you come across them while leveling or purchase them off the market.

IGNORE QUARTERSTAFF IN GEAR IF USING Hollow Palm Technique! Watch my Latest YouTube Video for full explanation on how to combo the skills and get big DPS!!!!

Strengths and Weaknesses

  • One Shot Bosses
  • Insane Clear Speed
  • Evasion, Energy Shield, and Deflection
  • Fun Unarmed Gameplay
  • Melee is risky early on
  • Dodge Dependent

Build Variants

This Variant will use Quarterstaff Strike, Falling Thunder, Killing Palm, and Tempest Bell to get the build up and running.

I give multiple options depending on what route you want to go such as Herald of Ice if you want to go with Ice Strike, Herald of Thunder if you want to go Falling Thunder or Tempest Flurry, and I include Wind Dancer and Ghost Dance if you want to go with a more defensive oriented playstyle.

We'll eventually spec into The Hollow Palm Technique which will provide us with INSANE Attack Speed and Critical Hit Chance. This is new to 0.3 so expect changes to the guide as we test.

Quarterstaff:

Go for a High DPS QStaff, Physical is best but any damage helps early on. The most important stats are going to be Added or % Increased Damage, Attack Speed, and Level of Melee Skill if you can handle the Mana consumption. Socket in any runs that Add Damage to Attacks if you come across them.

Body Armor:

An EV/ES, EV, or ES Body Armor will work. Go for Maximum Life to bolster your survivability, Attributes (STR, INT, DEX), and any Resistances that you can get.

Gloves:

An EV/ES, EV, or ES pair of Gloves will work. Go for Maximum Life, Attack Speed, Attributes (STR, INT, DEX, and any Resistances that you can get.

Helmet:

An EV/ES, EV, or ES Helmet will work. Go for Maximum Life, Attributes (STR, INT, DEX, and any Resistances that you can get.

Boots:

An EV/ES, EV, or ES pair of Boots will work. Go for Movement Speed, Maximum Life, Attributes (STR, INT, DEX, and any Resistances that you can get.

Amulet:

Any Amulet early on works but I would prefer either Stellar Amulet, Crimson Amulet, or Lunar Amulet. Go for Maximum Life, Maximum Energy Shield, Attributes (STR, INT, DEX, and any Resistances that you can get. Level of Melee Skill is an option if you can handle the Mana consumption.

Rings:

Getting Flat Damage of any type is important for a DPS increase, I combo this with a % Increased Elemental Damage Prefix to make sure I get the damage I want. Other good stats are Maximum Life, Attributes (STR, INT, DEX, and any Resistances that you can get.

Use the Rings to fill out any missing Resistances and increase needed Stats.

Act 1 Leveling Unique's:

Innsmouth for Mana Regeneration, Foxshade for Movement Speed, Luminous Pace for Movement Speed, The Everlasting Gaze for Mana and Defense, Northpaw for Damage, Wanderlust for Movement Speed, Blackheart for Damage, Meginord's Girdle for STR and Life, Goldrim for Resistances, Surefooted Sigil for Dodge Roll Distance, Greymake for Attributes, Crown of the Victor for Damage, Levinstone for Lightning Damage, Revered Resin for STR and Life, Ghostwrithe for Energy Shield, Horns of Bynden for STR and Rage, Wings of Caelyn for DEX and Rage, Pillar of the Caged God for Damage, Matsya for Damage, Grip of Winter for Damage, and Erian's Cobble for EVERYTHING.

You'll use Quarterstaff Strike with Martial Tempo as your main attack for the first few levels, Falling Thunder will be used to apply Shock to a target so we can deal more damage until we acquire Killing Palm. Once we have this skill we can generate Power Charges.

You'll use Quarterstaff Strike to weaken targets and use Killing Palm to get Power Charges which will make Falling Thunder do tons of damage and have massive AOE. Use this to deal chunk damage to Rare enemies and Bosses.

Herald of Ice is a placeholder until we get our hands on Ice Strike, if you decide to not use this skill then go with Herald of Thunder or Wind Dancer depending on your preference between clear speed and extra Evasion.

Work in Progress, be sure to come by the Twitch Stream for the Newest Skill Tree as I'm changing it to test new things!

We'll go with Flow Like Water and Flow State to get Skill Speed to Increase DPS early on. Life from Death will provide us with some survivability when fighting large packs of enemies. Echoing Frost and Echoing Thunder are really strong Elemental Damage Increases when League Starting. Tenfold Attacks to Increase our DPS.
