Build Overview

Here's my guide for my Oil Barrage Martial Artist League Starter and Endgame Build for Patch 0.5.5! This is a Work in Progress so expect rapid changes early on! I've included Leveling Variants and Budget Variants, just scroll through the Variants!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

🚨Work in Progress, be sure to come by the Twitch Stream for the Newest Skill Tree and Gems as I'm changing it to test new things!🚨

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

🚨I've included a League Starter Leveling Guide, Early Mapping Guide, and Endgame Guide to cover your run on Monk from Start to Finish. Click the appropriate Tab for Gear and the Passive Tree🚨

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oil Barrage is a very powerful skill that fires projectiles that Slow Enemies, apply Elemental Exposure, and can be channeled to continuously fire more projectiles if you have Power Charges. The Martial Artist Ascendancy gives us the tools to ensure we always have Power Charges to Enhance our Oil Barrage.

We'll use Nova Projectiles I to fire these projectiles 360° around us so you can turn your brain off and clear maps easily. Fork will shoot out additional projectiles when they hit enemies to amplify the clear further and Salvo will add even more projectiles to ensure you hit everything on the screen.

We'll use Blasphemy + Repulsion to generate Power Charges. This tech works thanks to a couple interactions:

Martial Master allows ALL Attack Hits to build Combo - Blasphemy applies Curses in an Area around you automatically - Repulsion is a Curse and has the Attack Tag meaning it can generate Combo when hitting the Cursed Target (Fragility Debuff) - Living Lightning II will summon Minions that will cause Repulsion to explode and build / expend Combo thanks to Culmination II - Ailith's Chimes will take that expended Combo and turn it into Power Charges.

Simply walk into a pack of enemies to apply Repulsion, use a Skill that has some form of Lightning Damage from your Weapon / Rings / Gloves / Extra Damage as Lightning to summon the Living Lightning II minions and BOOM. Now you just walk around and get Power Charges to fuel Oil Barrage!

We'll get our early Movement Speed from Pounce and Movement Speed on gear. Later on once you want to invest into more Movement Speed, you can use Whirling Slash with a High Attacks per Second Spear on Weapon Set 1 alongside supports like Rigwald's Ferocity, Rapid Attacks III, and Medved's Felling + Dance with Death and Weapon Set Points to get around 8-10 Attack per Second. This will be faster than Sprinting without the chance of getting knocked down and swarmed.

Our Defenses will be a copius amount of Evasion, Deflection, and Energy Shield. I'm currently sitting at nearly 9K Energy Shield, 81% Evasion, and 95% Deflection which puts my EHP at nearly 200K which makes this an insanely tanky build! Chaos Inoculation will also make us Immune to Chaos Damage. Lower Investment should put you around 5-6K ES, 75% Evasion and 95% Deflection.

We'll also have a Companion with Spirit Vessel from the Forgotten Warden Body Armor. This Companion will eat 10% of Damage taken and 15% of Deflected Hit Damage for a massive Damage Reduction!

Filter's I use (Shoutout Mr9Lives) - Here

Strengths and Weaknesses

  • 360° Clear
  • Very Tanky
  • Good Bossing
  • "Brain Off" Gameplay
  • Curse Immune
  • Channeling Skill (Clunky Early on and stuck in 1 spot when attacking)
  • Can't see anything (Especially with MTX)

Build Variants

This will be the Mirror Tier Investment portion of the build. Lots of the items shown here are aspirational and NOT required to make the build function. I like to include this variant for the blasters who want to maximize the build.

We'll be using an Absent Amulet with Eternal Rage for constant 30% More Damage and constant uptime for Rageforged II and Medved's Felling. Be sure to get +3 Projectiles and + Spirit to fit all of our Spirit Gems.

I like to use the Legacy of Wanderlust in one of our Runic Meridians slots for the Slow Immunity. This is extremely useful in Grand Expeditions since Ailment Reflection can be really annoying. No more slows like Chill / Maim / Hinder.

I'll also make all the 5 Mod Sapphire with Ailment / Stun Threshold, Energy Shield, Increased Suffix Effect, and Crit Bonus to ensure we'll never get Stunned / Ignited / Frozen / Etc..... This also allows us to drop Abasement for some Extra Skill Points.

We'll use the Rite of Passage and Mageblood for a massive Mapping Power Spike once we can afford them. We'll also use Rakiata's Flow since this is just a damage increase in most cases. Raven-Touched Shard will allow us an additional Anoint, I went with Thaumaturgic Generator + Zarokh's Gift for my 2 anoints.

Talisman (Weapon Set 2):

Prioritize these Affixes:

- Adds # to # Damage to Attacks (Lightning > Fire / Cold)

- % Increased Elemental Damage with Attacks

- + to Level of Attacks

- +% to Crit Chance

- % Increased Attack Speed

The Nettle Talisman has the highest Base Crit Chance which will make getting 100% Crit Chance easier. Prioritize highest DPS / Crit Chance Talisman and get Attack Speed in the Suffix, + Levels if you can afford it. Socket with Saqawal's Rune of the Sky, Farrul's Rune of the Hunt, and Serle's Triumph (If you want 4th Suffix as shown in this variant)

Spear (Optional / Weapon Set 1):

Prioritize these Affixes:

- Increased Explicit Speed Modifier Magnitude

- Increased Attack Speed

- Increased Effect of Socketed Augment Items

You want the highest Attacks per Second for this Spear and nothig else. This will make Whirling Slash super fast, even faster than sprinting if you invest enough and at no risk of getting knocked down. Socket with Soul Core of Quipolatl

Body Armor:

We'll be using the Forgotten Warden as this provides as much EV/ES as a really good Rare Body Armor all while costing less than 1 Divine. The Companion from the Skill on the Body will take 10-15% of Deflected hits damage so a nice 15% Damage Reduction alongside the support gems in the companion for more Defense Tech.

Our Deflection Rating will also increase when we lose ES so we should be insanely tanky with this Body Armor. I've socketed 1 Idol of Eramir for Charge Consumption Efficiency, 1 Rune of Foundations for EV/ES, and 1 Rabbit Idol for Rarity if you have 3rd Socket.

Use a Perfect Jeweler's Orb on Spirit Vessel for the 5th socket unless its corrupted (No 5th Socket then).

Gloves:

This is one of the most important pieces of our build now thanks to Way of the Stonefist.

Way of the Stonefist converts existing mods into new ones when you equip a pair of Gloves: Added Damage -> Gain Extra Damage as ____ - Increased Crit Bonus -> + to Base Crit Chance

Prioritize these Affixes:

- + / % Increased Defense -> Stonefist Conversion -> % More EV/ES or + EV/ES per Level

- Damaging Ailments Deal Damage % Faster -> Increased Damage per Elemental Ailment on that Target (OP for Damage)

- % Increased Critical Damage Bonus -> Stonefist Conversion -> +% to Crit Chance

- % Increased Attack Speed -> Stonefist Conversion -> % Chance for Onslaught on Hit

Other good mods: Any Added Damage to Attack, Gain % Deflection, + Accuracy, Proj Speed, Str / Dex / Int, etc.....

Get at least 1 Defensive Mod, the Crit Mod, and the Attack Speed. These will greatly improve your overall EV / ES, Crit Chance, and Skill Speed of the build. Doesn't have to be exactly like my gloves, get whatever fits your budget and preference.

Helmet:

Prioritize these Affixes:

- + / % Increased Energy Shield

- % Increased Critical Hit Chance

- +% Res / Attributes / Rarity

Get the highest ES Helmet as possible. Raven-Touched Shard is not required but provides an extra Jewel Slot with Zarokh's Gift.

Boots:

Prioritize these Affixes

- + / % Increased Evasion and Energy Shield

- % Gain Deflection Rating

- +% Res / Attributes / Rarity

- 30-35% Increased Movement Speed (Only if not using Whirling Slash Movement Tech!!!)

- Skills have 10-15% chance to not remove Charges but still count as Consuming them (Optional QoL)

Its beneficial to get the Uhtred's Sidereus Chronomancy Mod for Chance to Not Remove Charges as this'll make uptime for all of our Charge Consuming Skills more consistent. Not required, but makes a big QoL difference.

Belt:

This slot is up to you, but I recommend the Shavronne's Satchel up until you can afford Mageblood or Headhunter. With an Instant Recovery Flask, you can heal your ES with Shavronne's Satchel which is great.

I went with Mageblood as the Skill Speed from the Silver Flask is very OP and the Jade Flask provides so much Evasion. I went with Jade, Silver, Bismuth, then 1 Duplicate. ALWAYS have the Jade Flask on your Mageblood!!! The Evasion / Deflection it provides is OP.

Amulet:

I went will Eternal Rage as this provides constant uptime for Medved's Felling and Rageforged II. Feel free to go for Trinity if you want the most DPS.

Prioritize these Affixes:

- % Increased Evasion Rating / Energy Shield / Global Defenses

- + Level of All Projectile Skills

- + to Spirit

- % Increased Crit Chance / Bonus

- +% Res / Attributes / Rarity

Anoint Thaumaturgic Generator / Zarokh's Gift if you're rich for extra passive Frenzy, Endurance, and Power Charges to fuel Charge Regulation or +1 Jewel Slot. Otherwise take a budget anoint like Critical Exploit, Serrated Edges, Vulgar Methods, etc.....

Rings:

Prioritize these Affixes:

- Adds Damage to Attacks (Any but Phys > Cold > Lightning > Fire)

- +% Res / Attributes / Rarity

Get whatever damage you can, then cover those Resistances / Attributes / Rarity. Kalandra's Touch is worth it once you have a really good Ring.

Jewels:

I use the Heart of the Well which can give Gain Extra Damage for HUGE Damage. Expect to spend BIG for a two line Gain Extra Damage but it makes and insane boost. Increased Mana Cost Efficiency is also a GREAT line to reduce Mana Cost of Skills!

I like to use a 5 Mod Time-Lost Sapphire with Critical Hit Chance / Bonus, Energy Shield, Elemental Damage, Increased Effect of Notables, and place it next to Stupefy to allow all the Nodes around that area to grant us extra bonuses. Not required by would take this at some point since there's so many Notables we take around this Jewel Socket.

Voices Sapphire will grant us additional Rare Jewel Sockets for more 5 Mod Sapphire. This is how we'll stack a ton of ES / Ailment Threshold / Stun Threshold / Crit Chance / Crit Bonus / etc....

Megalomaniac with an Offensive and Defensive Notable, use your brain on what's good. If I recommend one it'll skyrocket.

I like Defensive Nodes such as Subterfuge Mask, Pocket Sand, The Wild Cat, Afterimage, Inner Faith, Patient Barrier, Chakra of Breathing, and Storm Driven.

I like Offensive Nodes such as Harness the Elements, Stormbreaker, Overwhelming Strike, Sundering, Deadly Flourish, Reaching Strike, and Rapid Strike.

These are just a few but I wanted to give examples as you don't have to have the same Notables as me. There are better options out there!

Mapping -

We'll use Oil Barrage as our main skill 24/7. Blasphemy + Repulsion will generate the Power Charges we need (Just make sure both of those skills are at least Level 18 or the Curse won't apply!). Channel Oil Barrage to clear the entire screen and use Whirling Slash to move to the next pack of enemies.

Devour is there if you need emergency Power Charges or want to get some before walking into a boss arena. Pounce can be used to cross gaps and ledges such as Sun Temple which can be useful for saving some time. Rend can be used to give us 50% Damage Gained as Lighting for around 12 seconds, very useful in things like Grand Expeditions where the extra damage is helpful.

The Spirit Vessel Companion will eat 15% of Deflected hit damage alongside 10% of Damage thanks to Loyalty. I'll use Amanamu's Tithe so when he dies we can get an Abyss Mod as well.

Bossing -

Walk up to the Boss to apply the Repulsion Curse, hit the Boss to cause the Curse to detonate and give us some Power Charges. Then use Rend for the 50% Damage Gained as Lighting then Oil Barrage until dead.

Passive Tree

set 1:

set 2:

Passive Tree Breakdown -

Weapon Set 1:

These Passives are meant to provide the most Attacks per Second to provide the fastest Movement Speed with Whirling Slash. Its important to be on Weapon Set 1 as Rigwald's Ferocity gives 30% Attack Speed to Weapon Set 1 Skills.

Weapon Set 2:

These Passives are meant to provide the most DPS for Oil Barrage without having any negative impact while we use Whirling Slash.

We'll get a couple Power Charge nodes like Overflowing Power and The Power Within since the build revolves around Power Charges. Then a ton of Crit Nodes as this is the best way to scale our DPS with nodes like Moment of Truth, True Strike, and Struck Through.

The Daze Nodes (Stupefy and Dizzying Hits) provide a bonus to the Time-Lost Sapphire I use in the nearby Jewel Slot and give us a bit of Crit / DPS. These are some of the best nodes in the game, especially since we hit often to proc Daze for the bonuses provided by these nodes.

We'll stack tons of EV / ES / Deflection with nodes like First Teachings of the Keeper, First Principle of the Hollow, Immaterial, Spectral Ward, and others to provide a ton of survivability. The Hollowkeeper will give us Curse Immunity when combined with Craiceann's Rune of Warding.

Weapon Set 1 Points like Deep Trance, Acceleration, Stimulants, and more will give us tons of Attacks per Second to move quickly with Whirling Slash.

Weapon Set 2 Points like Overflowing Power, The Power Within, Catalysis, and Throatseeker will give us DPS without sacrificing any bonuses when swapping between the Weapon Sets.

Ascendancy Points -

Martial Adept Martial Adept are required to make the Blasphemy + Repulsion Tech work so get these 2 first. Then Way of the Stonefist for some really OP Glove mods. Lastly Runic Meridians for the flexibility with Resistances and Attributes if needed. Tons of good socketables so can't go wrong.

How it Plays

YouTube Video Soon!

Blasphemy + Repulsion will auto apply a Curse that can generate Combo when detonated. This Combo can be turned into Power Charges with Ailith's Chimes.

These Power Charges can be used to amplify Oil Barrage to deal crazy damage. Nova Projectiles I will shoot the projectiles in a circle around us for full screen coverage!

Rend will provide us with some extra damage, Pounce will give us some extra Movement and allow us to cross gaps and ledges, Devour will give us Power Charges when consuming corpses if needed.

Whirling Slash (Level 1) can be used in combination with a high Attacks per Second Spear, Rigwald's Ferocity, Medved's Felling, and Weapon Set Points to be used as Movement! Just hold down the skill and let it drag you across the screen like helicopter!

How it Works

FAQ

Why isn't Repulsion + Blasphemy working?

Make sure the Gem Levels for both skills is matching your area level! At T15 Maps, you'll need a Level 18 version of both of these gems or else the Curse won't apply! That or just turn the Spirit Gem on......

How to Scale my Crit Chance?

Your Base Critical Hit Chance is the most important thing to improve. The Nettle Talisman has the highest Base Critical Hit Chance our of all Talisman Bases making it the best option for reaching 100% Chance to Crit.

The Way of the Stonefist converts the Critical Damage Bonus mod to "+% to Crit Chance) as well, meaning we can get an additional 3% to Base Critical Hit Chance. Otherwise things like the Time-Lost Sapphire with Crit Chance, other Jewels, Passive Tree Nodes, etc.... will be your other sources of Crit. You can also utilize the Diamond Flask on Mageblood or Pinpoint Critical in place of Rageforged II if necessary.

How to Increase Energy Shield?

The biggest sources of Energy Shield is going to come from your Body Armor (Forgotten Warden), Pure ES Helmet, and Gloves (Way of the Stonefist Mods).

Once you have a solid base Energy Shield amount, you need to get sources of Increased and More Energy Shield. These can come from the Time-Lost Sapphire and other Jewels, Amulet Mods (% Increased ES / Global Defenses), Rite of Passage (Owl Spirit), Charge Regulation (20% More ES), Passive Tree Nodes, Runes (Rune of Foundations / Perfect Iron Rune), and more.

Way of the Stonefist will convert popular Defensive mods like % Increased EV / ES / AR into % More Global Evasion and Energy Shield which is extremely potent. I would try to always have this mod on your Gloves if possible.

I can't put Ailith's Chimes / Culmination II / Charge Profusion II in Blasphemy?

The order of the Support Gems is extremely important! You need to first equip Repulsion since its an Attack / Curse. Then Living Lightning II since it can generate combo. This allows us to equip Culmination II to generate and expend Combo. Since we're spending Combo, Ailith's Chimes can then be equipped to generate Charges, which allows Charge Profusion II to be equipped.

In Summary: Repulsion -> Living Lightning II -> Culmination II -> Ailith's Chimes -> Charge Profusion II

How do I mitigate Slows, especially in Grand Expedition?

The expensive but full proof method is the Legacy of Wanderlust which will solve all your problems, but is usually quite expensive.

The cheaper method is to stack "Reduced Potency of Slowing Debuffs". This can come from things like the Soul Core of Quipolatl, Cyclonic Alloy Body Armor Mod, and Passive Tree Nodes (Freedom of Movement, Unhindered, Lasting Boons, Unyielding, etc...).

There's also the Commiserate support which can be slotted into one of your skills like Shattering Palm to remove the Chill debuff from yourself briefly. This is a bootleg way, but better than nothing. Silver Charm can also help but will likely run out of charges fast in Grand Expeditions.

Why Forgotten Warden over a Rare Body Armor?

The Companion from the Spirit Vessel Skill granted by the Body Armor can eat up to 15% of Deflected Damage for us. Since we cap our Deflection at 95%, this means most of the time we'll take 40% Less Damage, then the Companion will eat up to 15% of Deflected Damage. This gives us an additional 15% Damage Reduction.

We also can use the Loyalty support which is an extra 10% Damage Reduction and other cool supports like Catha's Brilliance and Amanamu's Tithe.

The Base Defenses on this Body Armor are also extremely high for how easy / cheap this can be. Not to mention the tons of Deflection Rating you'll get on top of it. This Body Armor will be better than most up until you start getting into 2K+ EV 600+ ES Body Armors which will be very expensive.

Is Shavronne's Satchel really that good and why isn't it healing my ES on use?

YES, its absolutely insane for survivability. Spam your Flask if you trip, get swarmed, or just get low and you'll be saved. If you have a really good flask then you'll really notice how powerful this belt is.

The only requirement is to have an Instant Recovery or % of Recovery is Instant Life Flask. For some reason, when using Chaos Inoculation you have to be running one of these mods to get any recovery. Otherwise the belt is useless.

What content do you think it excels on and what content is it not as great with?

It for sure excels at Ritual, Breach, Sims, and Abyss. It can excel at Grand Expedition with enough investment but has the downside of being a channeling skill which can get you killed if you don't pay attention to whats happening around you. Overall handles everything plenty well, very braindead and easy skill to play
