PoE 2: The Viridian Wildwood Unique Map

Overview

The Viridian Wildwood is a wisp themed map adjacent to Ritual content and is the only location a handful of special Omens can be found.

Guide

The Viridian Wildwood is an extension of Ritual content in Path of Exile 2. Upon entering you'll find a dark wooded map with locusts floating in all directions. As you move the circle of wisps encompassing you shift with you, revealing more of the forest. You'll be able to explore as long as you have "light" to explore with, so choose your path carefully.

The map itself is diagonal in shape and can be found in Swamp and Forest biomes. Any tier of waystone can be used to complete the map.

Like all other unique maps, completing this one will grant 2 Atlas Passive Points if you haven't yet fully unlocked the 10 passive points available for completing Unique maps.

This map is a throwback to Path of Exile 1's Wildwood from the Affliction expansion where you explore a map with no map overlay. In Path of Exile 2, however, you do get a map overlay though the other mechanics around light and exploration are similar.

Light and Exploring

As you move the locusts from your path you consume a "light" resource. Once you've moved an unspecified amount, the locusts will expand away from you revealing a portal back to your hideout.

For this reason, unnecessary movement into the darkness that pushes back the locust swarm is wasteful. You are not penalized for exploring areas which you have already walked through, only if you are expanding the areas of darkness.

Pro-tip: Move with purpose directionally, and only fully reveal areas where you absolutely need to.

Sacred Wisps

In various spots you'll find glowing Sacred Wisps which will explode, pushing the locust cloud away and revealing more of the map. These extend the distance you have remaining to explore the Wildwood, similar to the way they did in Path of Exile 1. Prioritize grabbing these every chance you can.

Omen Altars

The special rewards for this map are found in Omen Altars randomly distributed around the map. You may find none, or you may find several. I've found as many as four in a single Wildwood.

These cairns can be hard to spot, keep your eye open for rock formations or the tooltip that pops-up on a mouse over.

Stone Megaliths

You'll also stumble upon larger areas with mob packs huddled in a stone megalith. When you get close enough a large section of the locusts will push back revealing Nameless creatures. There is no known utility to these areas, however killing more monsters certainly isn't a bad thing.

Special Omens

These Omens can only be found in the Viridian Wildwood from Omen Altars

Omen of Answered Prayers

The next shrine you click on will grant an additional effect

Omen of the Hunt

The next possessed monster you kill will release its Azmeri Spirit

Omen of Reinforcements

The next Rogue Exile you encounter will summon an ally

Omen of Secret Compartments

The next Strongbox you encounter will be reopenable*

*does not work on unique strongboxes

Completing The Map

When you've run out of "light" the map will automatically complete itself. This means that just moving around, and not killing mobs, is sufficient to receive credit.

Once this happens the locusts will no longer part when you walk into them. Instead you'll experience a Slow mechanic that will quickly pin you down-- and once you've stopped moving will be teleported to a special holding area that has a checkpoint and can only be portaled out from.
