Overview

Presence is a keyword used to describe the area of an effect in Path of Exile 2.

Basic Mechanics

What is Presence?

The Presence of an entity is a radius of 4 metres around that entity by default.

The area of Presence without any additional modifiers

The Presence area does not carry any additional effects by default, but many Skills and modifiers on items or Ascendancy Passive Skills will cause effects that are imposed within the Presence radius. For example the Radiant Grief Unique Helmet will cause Enemies in your Presence to be Ignited as though they had been Hit with 100 Fire Damage.

Area of Presence

The area that's considered to be within the Presence of an entity is not affected by any modifiers to generic Area of Effect specifically, or Skill Area of Effect modifiers. For example the Ezomyte Peak Unique Helmet has the modifier '10-20% increased Area of Effect', which does not interact with your Presence Area of Effect in any way. Instead, modifiers that apply directly to Presence Area of Effect exist, such as Enveloping Presence. There are also much rarer modifiers that modify Presence Area of Effect, for example Alpha's Howl will directly double its radius.

Tip: holding ALT while hovering over the Presence keyword will highlight the Presence area of your character.

Interactions

Merit of Service

Merit of Service is a Unique Shield that has a special modifier that makes it so that Allies in your Presence have Block Chance equal to yours.

Gravebind

The Gravebind Unique Gloves will cause you to gain credit for kills for any Enemies that are slain in your Presence. You can use this special modifier to obtain kill credit on minion setups, allowing you to utilise on-kill mechanics.

Redblade Banner

Enemy Power is a mechanic that applies a Power number to entities to cause various effects on Skills or items, for example Infernal Cry causes Empowered Attacks to gain extra Damage based on the total Power of Enemies in range. Redblade Banner will double the Power number of Enemies in your Presence, potentially providing strong scaling for mechanics that utilise enemy Power such as Trigger abilities like Cast on Critical.
