PoE 2: Maim Explained

Mechanics

Overview

Maim is a Debuff that slows Movement Speed in Path of Exile 2.

Basic Mechanics

What is Maim?

Maim, or being Maimed, is a Debuff that imposes 30% reduced Movement Speed and 15% reduced Evasion Rating on the target by default.

Reduced Movement Speed stacks additively with any increases to this stat. For example, if your only source of increased Movement Speed was '30% increased Movement Speed' on your equipped Boots, this modifier would essentially be cancelled out by an incoming Maimed Debuff, reducing you to moving at your base Movement Speed.

Reduced Evasion Rating also stacks additively with any increases to this stat. As such, whilst still impactful, the reduced Evasion Rating imposed by an incoming Maimed Debuff on you is significantly less concerning than the reduced Movement Speed modifier, as Movement Speed is typically much more difficult to obtain.

Note: Maimed can be inflicted on Monsters by your Attack hits, or on you by some Monster Hits.

Chance to Maim

Maimed cannot be inflicted unless it's enabled by a modifier on a Skill, Support Gem, Passive Skill or item modifier. Impair is a Notable Passive Skill that provides a chance to Maim with Attack Hits.

Note: Maim can only be inflicted by Attack hits currently.

Another example is the Maim Support Gem that will cause all Attack Hits from the supported Skill to inflict Maimed on Monsters.

Duration of Maimed

The default base Duration of Maimed is 4 seconds. You can increase the Duration of Maim you inflict on Monsters with sources of slower Debuff expiry rate such as Temporal Chains. You can also lower the Duration of Maimed on you by investing in faster expiry rate of Debuffs on you, for example Time Manipulation.

Interactions

Hoghunt

The Hoghunt Unique Mace has the modifier 'Maim on Critical Hit'. This is a local modifier, and therefore it only applies to Hits inflicted by Attacks with the weapon. Maimed is always inflicted on Monsters whenever you Hit them with a Critical Hit from an Attack Hit with Hoghunt.
