Use your favourite features in-game with our Desktop AppPOE 2's Gambling mechanic seldom awards amazing items, but will often help you get an upgrade to replace items that might be holding you back.
It's limited by two things - unique monster kills in the present Act, and your available gold.
You visit an NPC and they'll take gold from you and in exchange give you an item of the class of your choice. It will frequently be rare but more often magic.
Unique items can be awarded but are too rare for this to be useful.
You will be constrained by three factors.
Gambling in an Act can't award items of higher item level than the level of the hardest zone in that Act. In Act 1 this is item level 15, or 51 in Cruel difficulty (Early Access only).
You'll run out of gold quickly if gambling - especially if gambling for jewelry items. Amulets offer a lot of power in Path of Exile 2, but the game is stingy with them, and you'll pay a lot of gold to gamble for them.
You can only gamble once per unique monster that you kill in the Act. This limitation isn't impactful when gambling for amulets or rings as you'll run out of gold well before running out of unique monster credit, but it is a severe cap when gambling for boots, weapons and other such items.
Check your character's worst items occasionally.
Don't try to chase 'perfect' items with gambling - trading with other players will be a better approach there.
Instead, gambling should instead be seen as a cheap, if unreliable, source of 'good enough' items.
Items you can then apply an Artificer's Orb and a resistance rune to, if they are in appropriate item slots.
Movement speed is arguably the best stat in the game. When new tiers of it become available (item level 1 for 10%, 15 for 15%, 30 for 20%, 50 for 25%, 70 for 30% and 82 for 35%), the first four occurring during the campaign, you should consider gambling for boots until you get useable boots with the new tier of movement speed.
Once you have three failed rare items of the same type, consider throwing them into the reforging bench for another chance at an upgrade.
Remember, gambling costs the same resource you'll need for respecs, so don't burn all your gold.
