Overview

Exposure is a Debuff related to Resistances in Path of Exile 2.

Basic Mechanics

What is Exposure?

Exposure is a Debuff that lowers a specific Resistance on a target by a set value. For example Frost Bomb inflicts Elemental Exposure to any Monsters within the pulsing area, lowering their FIre, Cold and Lightning Resistances for a Duration.

Note: Exposure stacks additively with other reductions to Resistance such as Curses.

Multiple sources of the same type of Exposure do not stack by default. Instead, only the Exposure Debuff with the strongest Magnitude will apply at any one time. However, you can apply several different types of Exposure to the same target. For example a Monster can be affected by Cold Exposure and Fire Exposure at the same time, lowering each type of Resistance independently of one another.

Exposure Effect

By default an Exposure Debuff will lower the specific type of Resistance by 20% unless stated otherwise on the modifier or Skill description. The Magnitude of an Exposure Debuff can be improved by utilising modifiers to Exposure Effect, such as the Potent Exposure Support Gem which provides 'Exposure applied by Supported Skills has 20% increased effect'.

However there are also rarer modifiers that directly add Resistance reduction to the base value of an Exposure Debuff, such as Stripped Defences. These types of modifiers directly scale the base value of Exposure and the resulting Exposure is then scaled by any modifiers to Exposure Effect.

Increased Exposure Effect stacks additively with other sources of the same effect, and is multiplicative with the final Exposure value. For example Frost Bomb inflicts a default 20% Exposure and if it were to be supported by Potent Exposure, it would inflict a 24% Exposure (20 * 1.2). If you also allocated Overexposure, you'd have a total of 50% increased Exposure Effect, resulting in an Elemental Exposure from Frost Bomb that lowers the the Fire, Cold and Lightning Resistances of the affected targets by 30%.

Note: Exposure and other effects that lower Resistances can reduce a target's Resistance below 0% into the negatives.

Monsters have innate resistance to Exposure applied to them based on their rarity.

Duration of Exposure

The Duration of an Exposure Debuff is directly tied to the application method. For example an Exposure Debuff inflicted by a modifier with no other mention of a specific Duration will apply a 4 second Duration Exposure Debuff. However, many sources of Exposure will state their Duration, for example Lightning Exposure which inflicts Exposure for 8 seconds upon Shocking a Monster.

Interactions
