Dual Specialisation Mechanic

PoE 2 is introducing a new core game mechanic: Dual Specialisation. In PoE 1, characters were limited by how many skills you could fit into your equipment. Furthermore, with a limited amount of Passive Points, players often focused on one thing to excel at.

With the new Dual Specialisation system, PoE 2 is adding more character customizability.

The Dual Speciasation system works in two main ways:

  1. Characters will gain access to a limited number of "special" Passive Points. With these points, you essentially have two different Passive Trees.

  2. Skills can be set to either Weapon Loadout. Your character will automatically swap between your first/second weapon loadout and use the skills set to it.

Secondary weapon loadouts were a thing in PoE 1, but they were rarely used. If builds did use it, it was quite clunky to use as you had to swap weapons, use a skill, swap back, etc. With PoE 2, the act of weapon swapping is automatic, and you only need to press your skill like normal.

There is a small delay when switching weapons, so you may want to set some skills to both weapons if there is no difference. (Your character won't switch if set to both, but will switch for other skills)

Dual Specilisation Example

The simple example GGG showcased is with the Sorceress. With the Dual Specialisation Tree, you can allocate points to both Lightning and Cold Damage. As you weapon swap, the tree fitting your Skill Gem will automatically be used.

If you look at the bottom right of this image, you can see that a I and II with a checkmark. This allows you to set each skill to a particular weapon set.

As mentioned previously, this will also allow you to swap between Passive Trees automatically.

All characters will be able to utilize this dual specialization system, and you can use it in a variety of ways as well. You can use this system to simply buff your character, create different undead armies with your Witch, or swap between single-target and AoE setups.

Whatever the case may be, this system adds a ton of build potential.
