- We’ll be using
Ice Strike with the new
Hollow Palm Technique. The build will keep evolving as I progress further into the endgame.
[0.3] HOLLOW PALM SPEED DEMON / ICE-STRIKE
Build Overview
Strengths and Weaknesses
- Clears the map smoothly
- deals solid damage bosses
- Tanky
Build Variants
The early levels will be a bit tougher, but we’ll stick with the melee combat that defines the monk, boosting basic attacks combined with
Frozen Locus and
Tempest Bell which will help a lot for clearing MOBS and BOSSES.
Equipment
-
Crescent Quarterstaff .Our weapon at the start will be very important—always try to buy one in the camp that has at least one of these affixes... In Renly they’ll be random, but you’ll always get something good, I highly recommend it..
- CHEST... The chest is gonna be key for defense, energy shield, max life, and some stats like INT or DEX will help you in the early levels.
- MASK... We’ll prioritize defenses—you can grab one with energy shield and life, anything that helps you survive longer is welcome.
- GLOVES...For gloves in the early levels, you want a mix of resistances and damage—energy shield, max life, and attack speed are all solid picks.
- BOOTS... More defense so you can survive the early levels—movement speed is nice if you wanna rush through Act 1, but defense comes first.
- RINGS... For rings, we’ll focus on boosting cold damage—this way freeze build-up is faster and it amps up your DPS.
- BELT... The belt will handle resistances—any early-level one works to help us tank. Also, any mod that boosts life and mana regen from flasks will be super helpful.
- AMULET... The amulet should be a combo of defense and DPS—energy shield, DEX, and evasion will help once we go UNARMED.
Skill Gems
Support Gem Requirements:
Str 5
Dex 10
Int 10
Quarterstaff Strike
Frozen Locus
Glacial Cascade
Tempest Bell
Staggering Palm
Herald of Ice

- The first gems will be important to boost the DPS of our basic attacks. Basic attacks with the Quarterstaff are pretty decent in these early levels. Combined with Tempest Bell, they’ll deal respectable damage before we get Ice Strike.
- FROZEN LOCUS… will be more effective as crowd control for groups of mobs than on big bosses. The nerf reduces the initial burst damage, meaning a lower chance to freeze immediately, but it still serves as a stable source of freeze build-up. So we’ll use it strategically rather than for raw damage.
- TEMPEST BELL… will be a major source of damage in the early levels. It helps against most bosses until King of the Mist, which is around level 14. The Overabundance gem will help keep the bell active more often, but with shorter duration.
- GLACIAL CASCADE… Its damage isn’t huge, but it helps clear enemies from a distance.
- STAGGERING PALM… Helps us close the gap on enemies; that’s the main reason we use it. It also stuns enemies when they have a marked light, and wind bursts come out from our attacks.
- HERALD OF ICE… Works as a passive damage support: it adds cold damage to your Monk attacks. You won’t notice the explosion effect much yet, since in early levels enemies die before long freezes can accumulate. Still, it helps clear small packs faster.
Passive Tree
- Flow like water and flow state seran prioridad los primeros puntos... tenemos mejor velocidad de casteo, regeneracion de mana y puntos de atributos como DEX e INT
- TENFOLD ATTACKS… Attack speed on a Monk is very important, it’s one of their main attributes to scale DPS, so we’ll try to reach this point as fast as possible before moving on to the next levels.
How it Works
HOW IT WORKS
- Ok my monks, let’s start by explaining in a simple way what this build is in general, I mean what are the main resources we will take advantage of to do more damage and survive more in maps…
This is so you have a general idea of how you can also improve or even change some things to have your own versions… without overthinking the construction of them. - We start with the fact that this build is a combination of evasion and energy shield, why?
Evasion will give us attack speed thanks to the Hollow Palm Technique node, which means more damage, and it also works as the chance to completely avoid enemy attacks. The more evasion you have, the more chances you have to dodge hits, being a key stat to survive. - Energy Shield will also be a key stat for both damage and defense, why? For attack we gain crit thanks to Hollow Palm Technique, and for defense Energy Shield acts as an extra layer that absorbs damage before it hits our life. And we’ll be using Ghost Shroud — part of the damage we take is redirected to Energy Shield and also regenerates, so both things complement each other to keep us alive longer.
Later you’ll see in the gear how I distributed evasion and energy shield. - Moving on to DPS, this will come from three main sources: our crits, attack speed, and cold damage.
- Crit in this game is pretty busted, so we’ll take full advantage of it by adding points in the skill tree that I’ll explain later and also with some support gems. It also synergizes with our ascendancy node Sunder My Enemies, since critical hits will ignore elemental resistances, and our main damage will be cold.
- Next is attack speed — it increases the number of hits per second, meaning more DPS, since we’ll apply our damage faster. I have 6 hits per second which is already pretty high and it could scale even more. This will be achieved with gems and nodes.
- Next is cold damage — we’ll have multiple benefits in this build from gems and the tree. Here we’ll have three main skills:
- Ice Strike: An attack that deals direct cold damage to the enemy.
- Shattering Palm: A melee attack that applies crystals on enemies, stacking them up.
- Herald of Ice: An aura that makes enemies explode when they die or when crystals shatter, dealing cold damage in an area.
- How do they work together? With Ice Strike you deal direct cold damage; with Shattering Palm you apply crystals leaving enemies ready to explode; when enemies die or crystals break, Herald of Ice makes them explode, amplifying your cold damage and letting you clear packs faster and more efficiently.
- That’s the general idea of the build and its basic functioning.
In summary: evasion and energy shield for attack and defenses.
Crit and attack speed are important to scale in this build.
And our main skills will synergize with each other.
Changelog
- Some new support gems were swapped in and added for
Tempest Bell - A couple of points were changed in the tree to get better survivability and damage optimization.
