Build Overview

SUMMARY:

This build was my league starter of choice for 0.5, "Return of the Ancients," now including early, mid, and late-endgame variants. It is currently up-to-date for the 0.5.5 release. The guide will continue to be updated as new information becomes available that enhances the build in some way.

This particular Twister variant puts the primary skill front and center, with with the Spirit Walker ascendancy offering major benefits through Primal Bounty and The Mhacha's Gift, giving Twister a huge boost to damage and clearspeed.

CAMPAIGN REGEX:

Strengths and Weaknesses

  • High ceiling for mobility scaling through weapon swap tech
  • Easy mapping with multi-screen-wide freeze and clear
  • Extremely strong in arena zones like Ritual as well as several other mechanics
  • Budget-friendly gearing with a roadmap into high-budget status
  • Multi-button rotation required for optimal performance
  • Unique-heavy gearing endgame progression
  • Highly-gear dependent for scaling damage
  • Features several key transitions

Build Variants

This build variant is the final iteration of the build. It features items like Headhunter, Rite of Passage, Voices Sapphire and a proper endgame crafted Flying Spear. Rare gear is fine-tuned with a greater emphasis on slotting in the Rarity stat, with over 150% increased while in combat. 133+ Spirit is needed to equip all of the Spirit gems in this setup.

CRAFTING GUIDE:

An all-encompassing crafting guide for this build can be found here.

UNIQUES:

Many unique pieces have phased out into high-budget rare items, but not for every slot. Headhunter is the first major upgrade for this variant, replacing Darkness Enthroned (gloves). Rite of Passage Cat version takes priority as another expensive, but major boost to the build. Last but not least, Voices Sapphire is the final unique item upgrade. Base jewels at this level should specialize in damage, crit, and attack speed.

OTHER:

This variant achieves even higher AoE breakpoints for Twister (+96% AoE required for 0.7m or +101% AoE + Headhunter required for 1m).

WEAPON SET ASSIGNING:

To assign a skill to a specific weapon set, open the skill window and click the checkbox for the desired weapon set (both are checked by default).

At this stage of the build, Whirling Slash and Barrage should be designated to weapon set one, while Twister and Ice-Tipped Arrows are designated to weapon set two. All other gems can remain assigned to both.

More on how to assign weapons and passives to their preferred weapon set can be found in their respective sections of the guide.

ROTATION:

For maximum damage scaling, the rotation remains Whirling Slash > Whirling Slash > Whirling Slash > Twister and should include pre-casting both Ice-Tipped Arrows and Barrage, as well as a Dodge Roll with roughly 6-8 seconds passing between each Twister attack. Use Sniper's Mark whenever convenient. At this stage in the build, Parry gets dropped from the rotation.

JEWELLER'S PRIORITY:

The priority order for Lesser, Greater, and Perfect Jeweller's is as follows:

  1. Twister
  2. Ice-Tipped Arrows
  3. Whirling Slash
  4. Barrage
  5. Herald of Ice
  6. Wind Dancer

Vivid Stampede (and all other ascendancy notables) grants its max 5 sockets at character level 90.

SPIRIT GEMS:

133+ Spirit is needed to equip all of the Spirit gems in this setup, which requires all Spirit campaign quests completed, a Spirit roll on the amulet, and a reservation desecration mod on the Soaring Spear. Berserk is the only spirit gem assigned to a specific weapon set, weapon set 2.

OTHER:

Whirling Slash should NOT be leveled up. It remains at level one to reduce the mana cost of the skill as much as possible. This is especially important in the later stages of the game.

WEAPON SETS:

Over the course of the completing the campaign, you will be granted up to 24 passive points that can be split between two weapon sets. These points can be assigned to a specific weapon set using the interface in the top right corner of the passive tree window. These passives are color-coded. Red is weapon set one, and green is weapon set two both in this guide and in-game. As a general rule, follow the passive priority list and utilize the weapon set points as they become available.

This build heavily utilizes these weapon set passive points, and involves several minor respecs. Spears are assigned to both weapon sets with Whirling Slash designated to weapon set one (with no offhand), focusing on attack speed. Whereas Twister gets designated to weapon set two (buckler in offhand), focusing more on damage.

More on how to assign skills and weapons to their preferred weapon set can be found in their respective sections of the guide.

ASCENDANCY ORDER:

  1. Primal Bounty
  2. The Mhacha's Gift
  3. Wild Protector
  4. Vivid Stampede and Sacred Unity

The first two ascendancy notables, Primal Bounty and The Mhacha's Gift pair together for a massive boost to Twister's effectiveness. Wild Protector comes in third for some added defense. Vivid Stampede comes in fourth, replacing the role of Frost Nexus in making elemental ground effects, as well as unlocking Sacred Unity. This bonus ascendancy point grants a nice little chunk of extra damage dealt, reduced damage taken, and brings with it some powerful effects such as Onslaught and Intimidate.

The combined power of these five ascendancy notables unlocks the full Spirit Walker package for Twister.

How it Plays

This build plays much like your standard endgame Twister build, but with a few more moving parts, and a lot more damage. Trigger Primal Bounty to sync with Salvo using a single Dodge Roll. Whirling Slash at least three times to max out Whirlwind and move in the direction of Vivid Stampede picking up Shocked Ground along the way. Hard-cast Ice-Tipped Arrows and Barrage to further empower the primary skill. [OPTIONAL] Parry the enemy in advance to make them take 50% more attack damage for a short duration.

How it Works

In the final stages of the build, several skills and abilities scale Twister damage and clear exponentially. Some of these are passive and time-gated. Some of them are actively prepped during that required window of time. With a simple dodge roll and a few seconds in between, Salvo and Primal Bounty load up a high Twister projectile count. Meanwhile, Whirling Slash combined with Vivid Stampede locks in a supercharged elemental Whirlwind. The primary skill is then double empowered via Ice-Tipped Arrows and Barrage and finally released, making for one of the fastest and hardest hitting elemental Twister attacks in the game.

Hey I noticed something while playing earlier.

I wanted to see what the attack speed was like if I removed the bonus from DWD. So I made the palm shared between sets 1&2 but the bonus from DWD never stopped.

From what I'm seeing then it works as long as the actual Palm is in set 2 and being shared with set 1. Which means you can get the bonus Strength and Fire Res in both sets without losing DWD's Skill Speed Bonus.

Hello, first of all, thanks for the build.

Could someone tell me how he can use more than 9 skills in the three Endgame builds? Because in my opinion, 9 skills are the max; isn't it?

This is supposed to be Dex heavy build. How are you using 115 int helment ?

Hello there! Thanks for the guide, it's been great until now.

A remark though, I think they removed the "attack" attribute of Vivid Stampede, meaning we can't insert culmination, ailith chimes and charge profusion. Do you have other suggestions ?

Ok I’m struggling to identify which variant I should be following. I am lvl 90 with all my ascendancies. I have Tangletongue, skysplitter wake of destruction, Calcutta’s arc and beacon of azis. I don’t have large amounts of cash nor many atlas points. so which is the better variant to build towards. Not sure what the defining factor is for each. (maybe a level requirement)

you say to put *% attack speed into the belt but i cant find no item with attack speed that will go into the slot.. what is it you use ?

That's because the Darkness enthroned variant must be for gloves.

Hey!

How are you, my friend?

I’ve been following your guide, and it’s really good. Thank you so much for putting it together!

However, I noticed a couple of things that you might want to correct. I’m currently at the Early Atlas section, and the links for the off-hand weapons are incorrect — they redirect to the search for the one-handed weapon instead.

Also, regarding Attack Speed on the Gloves: it shouldn’t be Local Attack Speed. From what I researched, Local Attack Speed is only used on weapons because it increases the weapon’s base Attack Speed, while Attack Speed on Gloves is global.

Those are the only corrections I noticed. Thanks again for the guide — my character turned out great thanks to you! ❤️

How did you from a passive point set set 2 then put points into set 1 without a global connection?
