As of the posting of the guide, this is the 4th tankiest Gemling Legionnaire on POE2.ninja so how did we achieve that WITHOUT Energy Shield?
Deflective Evasive Block!
Essentially the idea behind this build is we are stacking up a tonne of evasion and using the deflection stat to push our ability to reduce damage to by 43% when we take a hit. This is by using nodes like 
Enduring Deflection and 
The Wild Cat.
We also stack a huge amount of armour as we are using 
Shield Wall and 
Resonating Shield to do both out bossing damage and clear for mapping/
The logic is that when a hit does pass through evasion; it is mitigated by Block and by armor and deflection. This is perfect as unblock-able and evade-able hits can still pass through, however it has allowed me to lazily tank through T16+ mapping with huge amount of boss HP and all pinnacle T3 content without any real issue.
The weakness to this build is ailments and we also mitigate the impact of this by using 
Natural Immunity.
To push damage up we also use the 
Constricting Command plus the surround nodes on the tree. Please note you will need a roll of 4 enemies being close by for this helm to work and it will work fine despite the nerf from 0.3.
We then also use Armour Explosion to increase our map clear with Resonating Shield couple with armour break.
We also use 
Charge Regulation and 
Combat Frenzy with pin to stack frenzy charges with Armour Break III allowing us to generate a constant level of endurance charges which increases our skill speed and evasion overall.
Finally, 
Hyrri's Ire is used to stack as much evasion as possible and also give us a boost to overall damage.
