Build Overview

Hey guys, KallTorak here! I'm an Off-Meta creator with an affinity for silly goose time builds! This is my Ironbound Warbringer guide for leveling through the campaign & end game.

Why Play Ironbound?

Ironbound is a new bow with a very cool effect. Arrows return that pierce enemies with fully broken armour. A lot going on here but the cool part is arrows will return! This is a really powerful and fun effect with incredible potential. Using skills like Ice Shot makes both clear and bossing very easy. The bow is very versatile though, many skills can be used to play it such as Spiral Volley and Snipe.

Ironbound has very interesting scaling with the fact that it scales off block! You do increased damage based off your block chance. This is very interesting for bow builds since you normally dont block at all with them. Warbringer carries here with Turtle Charm increasing our block cap to 75%. No other class is able to achieve this high a block chance. When pairing Ironbound with Rearguard you are very easily able to hit the block cap. Warbringer also does a good job of automating the pierce effect with Anvil's Weight and Passthrough Rounds.

Throughout the game we are incredible tanky since we are armour stacking to increase both our block chance and our dps. In late game we can do a full evasion swap to Hyrri's Ire making us run around with 75% block, 80+% evasion, a bunch of deflection, 2k+ life, and the new ward defense. Defensively this build is very fun and unique!

FAQ

To get Legacy of Ironbound you need to acquire Aldur's Legacy. Use it inside a random Ironbound to get Legacy of Ironbound.

DO NOT socket it into any random Ironbound. Currently Legacy of Ironbound is very expensive. You want to make sure you put this into the ideal bow for your setup. In deep late game we have the ability to drop Rearguard and use a rare quiver. You need 14% block chance with block with ideally 6% of armour to block for your bow to pull this off with no extra investment besides armour.

If you do not care about giga min maxing and swapping to a rare quiver, slap Aldur's Legacy into a 3 socket Ironbound with 2 to 6 adds physical damage. If you want to min max wait until you have the right ironbound. If the price of Aldur's Legacy drops in price, do whatever you want.

Do NOT sway to mirage god early. If you swap early your damage will be awful. Don't start scaling mirage archer until you noticing it doing really good damage. Then start slowly scaling up the amount of them you can get. If you aren't giga juiced probably wait until 90+.

Strengths and Weaknesses

  • Arrows returning to us means each shot is doing 2x its damage! Ironbound scales suprisingly well once it is fully upgraded and your block is maxed.
  • Heralds aren't needed so this build has solid visual clarity!
  • Scaling our defense is how we scale our damage so you are incredibly tanky throughout the entire game. Late game with evasion and 75% block you are incredibly hard to kill!
  • Requires a few low level uniques such as Ironbound and Rearguard. You will use these the entire run. Not SSF friendly
  • Return arrow mechanic has a lot of limitations preventing shotgunning bosses down.

Build Variants

On league start we will mule from a ranger. Create a ranger and kill miller. From Renly take the skill gem and use it on lighting rod. Then put your bow, quiver, lighting arrow, and lightning rod in your stash. Then log onto your warrior and start your journey. This takes 90 seconds to do on a ranger and it'll make your league start so much smoother for those that want to play bows from level 1.

Valuable Starting Uniques

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blackbraid - One of the best leveling body armours in the game. You can use this until red maps if you wanted to. Gets upgraded by the new runeforging system(TBD on how) as well. Getting one early is highly recommended. Won't replace until The Brass Dome likely or the EV swap with Hyrri's Ire.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Titanrot Cataphract - Amazing body armour for this build because it gives us a massive amount of armour early on. This body armour should help us easily reach the base 50% block cap. With Rearguard in act 3 it will get you to block cap allowing you to focus on EV pieces or resistances in the other slots.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blackgleam - We need pierce for Ironbound to do its thing. Blackgleam is an interesting way of getting early game pierce. With Herald of Ash and some added damage as fire to attacks you should have things consistently ignited for automated pierce. This would eventually be replaced in act 3 by Rearguard. Rearguard will be used forever likely so only invest into Blackgleam if its cheap or after we confirm if there is any late game viability with it.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Legionstride - These are okay and will make it easy to hit 75% block cap in act 3. However, they have no movespeed, so bleh.

After you kill Miller pray a bow drops. If no bow drops check to see if everything you got from drops can sell for enough gold to buy you a bow from Renly. If you get a bow from Miller or Renly you should take Lightning Arrow with your first support gem. The 2nd gem you get from Clearfell you will take Lightning Rod.

If you do not get a bow in your opener you will stick with a mace until you get one. Your first skill gem you will take Contagion from Renly. You will then take Frost Bomb from Clearfell. Unfortunately there is a bit of RNG in this opener. Keep in mind you can choose to farm Beira in Clearfell for a bow or extra gold to buy a bow.

Lightning Arrow will be our main skill for everything until level 31 where we swap to Ice Shot. For clear you will use Lightning Arrow. With its built in chain + eventual return mechanic from Ironbound you should have plenty of clear. For bossing early on you will drop 4 Lightning Rod and then spam Lightning Arrow. Once you have Ironbound with Pierce I you can start using Armour Piercing Rounds for bosses to break armour. Once you have Anvil's Weight you will no longer need a 2nd weapon set to break armour.

In act 2 once you have Escape Shot setup with the ability to freeze bosses, you can freeze any bosses very quickly, then one shot them with Snipe.

Only take Pierce I for Lightning Arrow if you have Ironbound early. Otherwise take Rapid Attacks I.
