Build Overview

BUILD IS BEING UPDATED LIVE WHILE TESTING

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, GGG released update 0.3.0 and along with some buffs, there came some nerfs; plus the addition of Hollow Palm Technique.
As many are aware, the passive skill tree has been changed significantly which has added A LOT of new nodes.
On this page you will find the levelling guide I plan to use, this will include skills, supports and weapons I plan to take, as well as details on how Hollow Palm would change this.

Strengths and Weaknesses

  • Good boss damage & ad clear
  • Relatively easy to play
  • Doesn't require weapon switching or messing around
  • Breezes through the campaign
  • Can be mana hungry if you have + to melee skills
  • Close quarters so could be more risk than ranged.

Build Variants

This is aimed at getting you through act-1 with a safe and strong amount of damage, as well as a decent amount of energy shield and evasion.

So, any quarterstaff will do, but a Gothic Quarterstaff gives you a high base crit than other quarterstaffs.

Primarily, you will be focusing on physical damage as you progress through to allow large amounts of DPS. Ideally you will need a staff, some rings and then any other gear will be a bonus. Monks scale very well with crit, so any attack speed and crit chance/crit damage bonus on equipment will be a huge health.

Ensure you have a mix of energy shield and evasion on the rest of your gear.

For people who are not aware, you start at the beginning of the game, kill an enemy and then get a quarterstaff and Quarterstaff Strike, this will be your first skill and it does a decent amount of damage and is great for when you are low on mana, so it is worth keeping, until we at least get Ice Strike or Tempest Flurry

As soon as you get your second skill gem, socket Glacial Cascade, this has received a buff & a nerf in-terms of damage. It does less to normal enemies, but more damage to unique enemies. Martial Tempo & Glaciation are great support gems to socket.

For bossing, get Tempest Bell as this will give large amounts of physical damage, stun and it will freeze the bosses using ailments, plus Ice Nova will give a lot of freeze build up. You can also remove Glaciation from Glacial Cascade and put it into Ice Nova for even more boss damage.

One you reach level 14, take either Ice Strike or Tempest Flurry. Either of these two will carry you towards endgame.

Ice Strike support gem would be Martial Tempo, Concentrated Effect & Ambush work really well, you could possibly drop Cold Infusion from Ice Nova and put it in Ice Strike for even more dps.

Tempest Flurry support gems would be Lightning Infusion &Martial Tempo

If you are struggling with mana, socket Inspiration.

You could branch to Hollow Palm if necessary, but this will be a skill that scales better endgame ( see video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7o7d72ptbx4 )

How it Plays

Mapping

1. Use Profane Ritual and Sacrifice to consume minions and gain power charges

2. Activate Charged Staff

3. Repeat step 1 for more power charges

4. Press Flicker Strike the flick around the map

5. Cast on Critical will proc Profane Ritual for more power charges allowing you to Flicker Strike again.

6. if you run out of charges, use Profane Ritual on corpses to get them or use Hand of Chayula to generate them.

Bossing

1. Use Profane Ritual and Sacrifice to consume minions and gain power charges

2. Activate Charged Staff

3. Repeat step 1 for more power charges

4. Activate Infernal Cry x2

5. Hit the boss with Hand of Chayula to apply Sniper's Mark

6. Flicker Strike that thing

If your Flicker Strike DPS is low, upgrade your gear and take more physical damage, or step back on, repeat steps 1-6.

Alternatives

You could swap out Ice Strike for Storm Wave with Branching Fissures II to have a wide area clear and more screen clears, this will help your survivability too.
