Build Overview

This is a build for speed leveling through the campaign as a monk.

The main skill setup takes advantage of Wyvern skills for better power charge generation and smoother clear. We use Wind Blast to build up stun quickly and Wing Blast with Impact Shockwave to clear packs. Devour generates power charges from corpses and heals us. On bosses, Wind Blast builds up stun and Wing Blast generates 3 power charges for our main damage skill, Falling Thunder.

As an Acolyte of Chayula, we get Into the Breach, which constantly generates remnants around us that restore health and mana and buff our damage. We invest heavily into remnant pickup range and chance for additional remnants on the tree, which combines nicely with Lingering Illusion to generate remnants that grant power charges. Because we have such high pickup range, all these remnants are picked up almost instantly, making power charge generation nearly automatic.

The build utilizes Hollow Palm Technique, which lets you use quarterstaff skills while unarmed and therefore allows you to ignore all quarterstaff crafting throughout the entire campaign. Instead, your base damage scales off skill level so you focus on getting +Melee/Projectile Skill Levels on amulet and gloves.

Using this setup, I was able to complete a fresh start SSF 100% campaign speedrun (all passive skills and bonuses + 1 ascendancy trial) in 5hrs and 45mins (see video).

Strengths and Weaknesses

  • Extremely high burst damage, chunks bosses and rares
  • Great clear, shotguns packs with big AoE
  • Excellent life and mana recovery thanks to remnant investment and Devour
  • Easy power charge generation
  • SSF friendly
  • Not a 1-button build
  • Focuses mostly on offense, not hardcore friendly
  • Can have a slow start before you get access to your charge generating skills and Hollow Palm
  • Requires higher skill expression and good positioning to make the most of your skills

In act 1, focus on getting as much flat damage of any type as possible on your gloves, rings, and weapon. Prioritize damage over everything else. Look for a pair of gloves with +level of all melee skills for after you swap to Hollow Palm Technique at level 13.

Look for 10% movement speed on boots. Also look for life, strength, and resistances wherever possible.

Before level 6, use Glacial Cascade with Rage I and Frost Bomb (for exposure) to kill bosses. Use Killing Palm to generate power charges for Falling Thunder to kill packs.

After level 6, use Wind Blast to prime enemies for stun and Wing Blast to stun and shotgun packs. On bosses, build up stun with Wind Blast and use Wing Blast to generate 3 power charges. Use Rend to gain 50% damage as extra lightning, then Frost Bomb for exposure, then spend your 2 remaining power charges with Falling Thunder.
