Build Overview

This iteration of Falling Thunder is using the Gemling Legionnaire's ascendancy, and stacking quality on items to get up to 100% chance to not remove Power Charges on use. To fix mana, we use Atalui's Bloodletting support, that converts our mana cost, into life cost.

You might think we need giga life leech or regen to compensate, but it's rather easy. Reverie, has a line that says "Non-unique life flasks apply their effects constantly" meaning that we get a permanent life flask, so we don't have to worry about the life cost of Falling Thunder.

To boost that, we are using Shavronne's Satchel, which says that life recovery from flasks is also applied to energy shield, so we get a nice defensive boost as well.

Try to get a level 20 and 23% quality Falling Thunder.

Strengths and Weaknesses

  • fantastic clear
  • huge single target damage
  • permanent power charges
  • not the tankiest build you've ever seen
  • can get quite expensive

For the weapon you want a high DPS staff with good attack speed, high critical chance, and preferably +3 or more to melee attacks.

The way I crafted mine, is that i bought the fractured base for a few exalts, perfect orb of augmentation for either T1 crit, T1 attack speed or +5 to melee skills, I landed the T1 crit chance on my 4th try, then i used a greater essence of haste for the attack speed. Then I used a Omen of Sinistral Exaltation to guarantee myself a prefix, then I socketed Astrid's Creativity so i can have +1 crafted modifiers, and used a Perfect Essence of Battle alongside Omen of Sinistral Crystallization to remove the prefix and guarantee myself the +3 melee skills. Then I desecrated a prefix with a Ancient Jawbone, and used a Omen of Abyssal Echoes to get a good damage mod, either flat phys, % phys. I got lucky and hit T1 flat phys, and finally, using a perfect exalted orb, I landed T3 % phys.

Rings: Get good rings with high resistances and a lot of flat added damage, either phys, lightning, cold, fire and % increased lightning damage, all are fantastic.

Gloves: For gloves you have 2 options, full damage, meaning triple prefix with flat added damage to attacks, or a combination of both. I recommend either 2 flat attack mods and an ES roll, or 2 ES rolls and 1 damage mods. The DPS is insane anyway, going triple flat is making you very squishy. For suffixes, you want +2 melee skills, critical damage bonus and attack speed or resistances. Whatever your build lacks.

Boots: IT IS MANDATORY TO HAVE THE CHRONOMANCY MODS THAT GIVES YOU 11% OR HIGHER CHANCE TO NOT REMOVE CHARGES BUT STILL COUNT AS CONSUMING THEM.

I crafted my boots by buying white bases, socketing Uhtred's Sidereus so they can actually roll the mod, then i perfect augmented and perfect transmuted and perfect regal until I hit 2 good mods, either good ES rolls, or the mod I wanted, for the power charges, then desecrated and perfect exalted the rest of the mods.

Body Armour: Reverie is your best in slot for this type of Falling Thunder build. Rite of Restoration is great for defenses as well, giving you MORE ES, Evasion and Armour per stage, alongside life regeneration.

Belt: Shavronne's Satchel goes hand in hand with Reverie

Helmet: I'm using Alpha's Howl with +1 power charge corruption, but this can be replaced with a giga ES helmet and critical hit chance suffix + resistances, but you will have to loose some auras. Make it work for you.

Amulet: I'm using Absent Amulet with Cast on Elemental Ailment, the base is very cheat and makes Cast on Elemental Ailment free, meaning it reserves no spirit. Buy the base with the +3 melee skills for a few divines, very cheap compared to others, Exalt slam a prefix, just like I described in the staff crafting method, use a Essence of the Breach to get +20% max quality, use the attack catalyst to get to at least 34% quality. Desecrate a suffix and use an omen of the blackblooded, and roll for +% quality to gems, this is MANDATORY. You may want some omen of lights, or buying a different base, whichever is cheaper. Once you get the suffix, exalt a prefix, use an essence to get global armour, evasion and energy shield, and perfect exalt slam the last prefix, if you hit Spirit, you win and could resell it for money.

Falling Thunder is your main damage dealer, it has a hit and the projectiles do most of the damage.

Rite of Restoration is from our body armour, use it on pinnacle bosses, no need for normal map bosses.

Cast on Elemental Ailment is from our amulet, in it we socket Profane Ritual and it's supports, Profane Ritual is there as a back-up in case we somehow loose our charges, it will consume a corpse and generate power charges.

Hand of Chayula is the way we apply our curses, I'm using Temporal Chains and Freezing Mark. These is for defensive purposes, slowing and freezing the bosses is a great way to stay alive, if you want you can use Sniper's Mark for more damage, but it's really not needed. If you don't have Rakiata's Flow, instead of Temporal Chains use Elemental Weakness.

Charged Staff linked with Perpetual Charge and our additional quality makes it so we don't consume charges with this either, it's a great source of additional damage and easy way to proc Blazing Critical.

Herald of Thunder and Herald of Ice are there to help clear. With Gemling's ascendancy, and additional quality, they give additional cold and lightning damage.

Charge Regulation gives 26% MORE critical hit chance while you have a power charge, in addition to the quality from the ascendancy, it also gives 3% increased damage per power charge, we have 8 power charges, so that's 24% increased damage

Lingering Illusion is the main way i generate power charges, when you dodge and the enemies kill your clone, you get 2 remnants that once picked up, turn into power charges.

Alchemist's Boon is fantastic here, because the additional quality gives it increased attack speed during any life flask. With Reverie and Shavronne's Satchel, our life flasks are always going, meaning we get a 100% uptime on 39% increased attack speed.

Whirling Assault can be used to generate rage quickly.

Time-Lost Emerald this is very important to the way i'm running this build, on my jewel I have a mod that says " 25% increased effect of notable passive skills in radius", this socketed next to The Fabled Stag, boosts it by an additional 2%. Other useful mods on the jewel would be increased proj damage, increased lightning damage, and VERY GOOD MOD is increased critical hit chance for attacks.

Prism of Belief with +2 to falling thunder is great for damage

Split Personality Ruby will allow us to start from the shadow starting zone, so it saves a lot of points.

Heart of the Well try to get at least 2 mods "gain X% of damage as extra" and rage on melee hit helps.
