All of my gear is used as an example and is far worse than what you can actually achieve in game.

Why Play This Build?
This build is basically a better smith of kitava in my opinion becuase we get ridiculous damage from
Way of the Stonefist along with easy gearing for our gloves since we can use any glove. We also get
Runic Meridians to help us with our resistances. With the new Runes, this ascendancy has a lot of potential for scaling.
Falling Thunder was already a well established good build for Monk in 0.4 with 0 downside changes in 0.5. Martial Artist looks versatile and can be changed into many different builds if you are bored or unsatisfied. The build will have great energy shield recovery through our ascendancy
Martial Adept and infinite power charges constantly thanks to Culmination II and Ailith's Chimes later on.
Important Tech
Hollow Focus Technique will be used early game in combination with
Killing Palm to generate power charges while bossing. We can also use
Storm Wave and
Siphoning Strike too, but
Killing Palm should be faster. We will use Thrill of the Kill to get extra lightning damage from culling our bells. - We will be using the Martial Artist Ascendancy with a focus on getting lots of combo generation, with Ailith's Chimes we can generate tons of power charges and even automate them completely by using
Whirling Assault. 1 use of this skill will pretty much net you full power charges to use with
Rend and
Falling Thunder - By using
Mantra of Destruction and Delayed Gratification we can make sure our skill costs 20 combo to use, this synergizes very well with the build because not only will it generate us full power charges, but it will also give us INSTANT energy shield recharge because of the Martial Adept Ascendancy Node. In addition it also gives us extra damage as chaos.
Rend will be used in this build because the buff that it gives is very good for our build. Giving us 50% of Damage as Extra Lightning Damage is insane. We can have this buff for 10+seconds which is more than enough time to use with
Falling Thunder. In addition we will use Heightened Charges for a 20% chance to DOUBLE the effect of
Rend giving us 100% Damage as Extra Lightning!
Whirling Assault is a skill that snapshots and does multiple hits with 1 attack, since this skill behaves in this manner it gives us a ridiculous amount of combo with just 1 attack and can have all hits Ancestrally Boosted for example. Later on we will Rely on
Charged Staff and
Staggering Palm to generate our combo when using
Whirling Assault because it will have Culmination II which stops it from generating combo. It will then spend the combo and with Ailith's Chimes, will grant us power charges autonomously.- Hopefully we're going to be able to upgrade
Prayers for Rain with the new unique upgrade option and in conjunction with
Mantra of Destruction and
Martial Adept to consume 20 combo for -0.2x20 = 4seconds recharge delay for an instant recharge. We will be getting some faster start of energy shield recharge to combat the 30% slower from the unique as well. This will basically give us
Convalescence for free and is part of our damage rotation being tied to
Mantra of Destruction.
Devour is counted as a leap skill so Shocking Leap works with it on devouring a
Hollow Focus bell to grant shocked ground.- Breachlord's Amalgam is a new lineage support which gives our
Falling Thunder returning projectiles. Normally a projectile from
Falling Thunder cannot hit the same target with more than 1 projectile. This overrides that since it counts as a new projectile and now we can hit TWICE effectively doubling our damage. - You can achieve curse immunity by using the 50% Reduced Effect of Curses and the
The Hollowkeeper. This node gets unlocked by allocating both
First Principle of the Hollow and
First Teachings of the Keeper. - Breachlord's Amalgam is an S tier support because of the function that it gives us return projectiles. This greatly enhances your clear. Traditionally, with
Falling Thunder there is a melee hit and then a projectile hit. You can never hit more than once on a single target with the projectile hit. With Breachlord's Amalgam you override this 1 hit and it turns into 2 hits, basically doubling your damage. Unfortunately it adds a cooldown, but our
Whirling Assault will be enough supplementary damage so it doesn't feel that bad. - Always always always socket Vruun's Inevitability into
Wind Dancer because this will enable wind dancer to consume 10 combo on every use as long as you're building combo with other skills. Due to
Martial Adept this gives us an insane recovery boost and it also gives us tons of AOE on wind dancer. WIN WIN.
