Build Overview

CHECK THE LATEST VIDEO!

This Elemental Ice Strike Martial Artist focuses on scaling Cold, Fire, and Lightning Damage through Way of the Stonefist, transforming flat elemental damage modifiers into powerful sources of extra damage. Combined with Ice Strike naturally high Cold Damage conversion, this creates a build capable of freezing enemies consistently while delivering excellent clear speed and strong single-target damage.

The build utilizes a Quarterstaff setup rather than Hollow Palm Technique, providing significantly better boss damage and overall scaling. Critical Strike Chance and Critical Strike Damage are major priorities, allowing Ice Strike, Hollow Focus, and Hollow Resonance to trigger constantly and add substantial extra damage through the Ascendancy's bell mechanics.

Elemental Conflux serves as one of the build's strongest offensive buffs, periodically empowering one of our elemental damage types with a massive damage bonus. Because the build scales Fire, Cold, and Lightning Damage simultaneously, every Conflux rotation provides meaningful value.

Defensively, the build combines Evasion, Energy Shield, Freeze, and Way of the Mountain, converting crowd control into both survivability and additional damage through Mountain's Teachings.

Mana sustain is handled through Oisín's Oath combined with Physical Damage Leeched as Mana, allowing our elemental damage to fuel mana recovery and maintain smooth gameplay during extended fights.

Overall, this is a fast-paced endgame build capable of comfortably farming Tier 15 maps while offering excellent clear speed, strong bossing potential, reliable crowd control, and one of the most satisfying playstyles currently available for the Martial Artist in Path of Exile 2: Return of the Ancients

Mana Sustain

Mana sustain is handled through a combination of Oisín's Oath and Physical Damage Leeched as Mana.

Oisín's Oath converts Mana Leech to scale from Elemental Damage instead of Physical Damage. Rather than linking it directly to Ice Strike, we use it with Hollow Resonance, allowing the Ascendancy bell to constantly generate mana through its frequent Elemental Damage hits.

Because Ice Strike naturally reaches a high Critical Strike Chance, Hollow Resonance activates very frequently, creating a steady source of mana recovery during both mapping and boss encounters.

To make this interaction work, you will also need at least one source of Physical Damage Leeched as Mana on your gear. A ring is usually the easiest and most efficient place to obtain it.

Together, these two mechanics completely solve the build's mana sustain, allowing Ice Strike to be used continuously without relying on mana flasks or additional recovery sources.

LATE ENDGAME CHANGES

Improved Power Charge Generation

One of the biggest upgrades to this build is the new Power Charge generation setup.

Previously, maintaining Power Charges consistently could feel awkward and often required additional mechanics that interrupted the flow of combat. After extensive testing, I found a much smoother solution that allows the build to generate Power Charges automatically while attacking.

By combining Hollow Resonance, Living Lightning II, Culmination II, and Ailith's Chimes, we can sustain Power Charges with very little effort. This is extremely important because Power Charges are used to maintain both Charged Staff and Rend, two of the strongest damage sources available to the build.

The interaction works because Living Lightning II counts as a melee skill, allowing it to generate Combo and trigger the entire setup.

Support Setup

  1. Living Lightning II
  2. Culmination II
  3. Ailith's Chimes

This setup makes the build feel significantly smoother during mapping and boss encounters, while providing one of the most reliable methods of Power Charge generation currently available.

Herald of Thunder Replaces Herald of Ash

Another important change is replacing Herald of Ash with Herald of Thunder

As the build evolved, Lightning Damage became a much larger portion of our overall damage output thanks to the addition of Charged Staff and Rend. Because of this, Herald of Thunder now provides far more value than Herald of Ash.

Not only does it offer stronger Lightning Damage scaling, but it also has access to better support gem options for endgame progression. Since the gem can easily be leveled to 20, it becomes an excellent source of additional damage as your character grows stronger.

With Charged Staff active, Herald of Thunder is also triggered more consistently, allowing us to take full advantage of its damage potential.

Overall, this change results in higher damage, better scaling, and a stronger endgame version of the build.

Benefits

  • Better Lightning Damage scaling
  • Stronger synergy with Charged Staff and Rend
  • More powerful endgame support options
  • Higher overall damage potential
  • Better progression into late-game content

Improved Mana Sustain

Mana sustain has been significantly improved, allowing the build to function smoothly without relying on Mana Leech.

After extensive testing in higher-tier maps, I found that Mana Leech was no longer necessary thanks to a combination of mana recovery, mana efficiency, and regeneration.

The foundation of this setup is Oisín's Oath together with Hollow Resonance. Since we are constantly activating the Bell during combat, we are also constantly recovering mana through our Elemental Damage, creating a reliable source of sustain while mapping and bossing.

To further improve mana management, the passive tree now invests into several sources of Mana Cost Efficiency and Mana Regeneration. These nodes greatly reduce the strain on our mana pool and make Ice Strike feel much smoother during extended fights.

Another key component is the use of a dedicated Mana Flask. When looking for one, prioritize the highest possible Mana Recovery value while keeping any recovery reduction modifiers as low as possible. Even relatively affordable flasks can make a noticeable difference to overall sustain.

With these changes combined, the build is able to maintain mana comfortably during endgame content, allowing you to focus entirely on attacking and mechanics rather than resource management.

Benefits

  • No Mana Leech required
  • Consistent mana recovery through Bell activations
  • Improved Mana Cost Efficiency and Regeneration
  • Smoother gameplay in prolonged encounters
  • More comfortable sustain in endgame maps and bosses

Gear Overview

Gear progression for this build is fairly flexible, but there are a few key priorities that should always come first.

Your main goal is to cap all resistances at 75% as early as possible. Rings, Helmet, Body Armour, Boots, and Belt should all contribute toward reaching this cap while also providing Evasion and Energy Shield whenever possible

Helmet & Body Armour

  • Resistances
  • Intelligence
  • Evasion
  • Energy Shield

Intelligence is especially important because it allows us to use Elemental Conflux. At a minimum, aim for enough Intelligence to support a level 14 Elemental Conflux.

Boots

  • Movement Speed
  • Resistances
  • Evasion
  • Energy Shield

Movement Speed is extremely valuable and should always be prioritized alongside defensive stats.

Belt

  • Resistances
  • Defensive stats

The Belt is primarily used to help cap resistances and make gearing much easier throughout progression.

Rings

  • Resistances
  • Flat Fire Damage
  • Flat Cold Damage
  • Physical Damage Leeched as Mana (at least one source)

Rings provide a balance of offense and defense while also helping solve mana sustain.

Quarterstaff

The Quarterstaff is the build's most important offensive item.

Priority stats:

  • Added Cold Damage
  • Added Fire Damage
  • Increased Elemental Damage with Attacks
  • Critical Strike Chance

A weapon with these four stats is more than enough to comfortably farm endgame content.

Amulet

The most important stat on the amulet is Spirit.

Aim for:

  • 50+ Spirit
  • Intelligence
  • Resistances
  • Defensive stats

Reaching at least 50 Spirit allows us to activate all of our core buffs.

Gloves

Way of the Stonefist makes gloves one of the strongest damage pieces in the build.

Priority stats:

  • Added Fire Damage
  • Added Cold Damage
  • Attack Speed

For high-end optimization, Power Charge on Critical Hit is the ideal endgame modifier, although it is currently very expensive.

Runes

Runes are mainly used to fill gaps in your character.

Recommended options:

  • Elemental Damage on Quarterstaff
  • Evasion
  • Energy Shield
  • Missing Resistances if needed

Focus on capping resistances first, then use runes to improve your offensive and defensive scaling.

Skills & Support Gems

Ice Strike

Ice Strike is the primary damage skill of the build and the main source of both clear speed and boss damage.

Recommended Supports:

  • Pinpoint Critical
  • Rage III
  • Elemental Armament
  • Concentrated Area
  • Rapid Attacks

Pinpoint Critical provides a massive boost to Critical Strike Chance, making it one of the most important supports available. Rage III increases Attack Speed, while Elemental Armament scales all elemental damage sources used by the build. Concentrated Area offers a significant damage multiplier at the cost of Area of Effect, making it particularly effective against bosses. Rapid Attacks provides smoother gameplay, although Close Combat II and Crescendo II are both viable alternatives.

Hollow Focus & Hollow Resonance

These Ascendancy skills provide a large portion of the build's supplemental damage through the bell mechanic.

Recommended Supports:

  • Cooldown Recovery
  • Elemental Armament
  • Oisín's Oath

Cooldown Recovery allows bells to appear more frequently, increasing overall damage output and consistency. Elemental Armament further scales their elemental damage, while Oisín's Oath is a core component of the build's mana sustain setup.

Shattering Palm

Shattering Palm serves as both a mobility skill and a major source of clear speed through its powerful cold explosions.

Recommended Supports:

  • Ancestral Call
  • Rapid Attacks
  • Blazing Critical

Ancestral Call improves coverage during mapping, Rapid Attacks makes the skill feel significantly smoother, and Blazing Critical grants additional Fire Damage through the build's naturally high Critical Strike Chance.

Tempest Bell

Tempest Bell is one of the strongest tools available for bosses, Rare monsters, and high-density encounters.

Recommended Supports:

  • Close Combat
  • Elemental Armament
  • Ancestral Call

These supports significantly increase the damage of the bell while allowing multiple bells to be active during combat.

Wind Dancer

A core defensive buff that automatically generates stacks to increase Evasion. When hit, those stacks are consumed to release a gust of wind that pushes nearby enemies away, providing additional survivability.

Herald of Ice

One of the primary sources of clear speed, creating powerful chain explosions when enemies are frozen and shattered.

Herald of Ash

Works together with Herald of Ice to create large chain reactions and improve map clear efficiency.

Elemental Conflux

One of the strongest offensive buffs available to the build. Elemental Conflux periodically empowers one of your elemental damage types, significantly increasing overall damage output.

Killing Palm

Used primarily to generate Power Charges. These charges are then consumed by Rend to gain additional Lightning Damage.

Hand of Chayula

An important utility skill for boss encounters. It allows the application of powerful curses such as Elemental Weakness, reducing enemy resistances and improving both damage and Freeze effectiveness.

Ascendancy Overview

The Martial Artist is, in my opinion, one of the strongest Ascendancies currently available in Path of Exile 2.

It combines powerful offensive scaling, exceptional elemental synergies, strong defensive layers, and some of the most satisfying gameplay mechanics in the game. Between the bell interactions, Freeze scaling, Critical Strike support, and massive elemental damage potential, the Ascendancy offers everything an Ice Strike build could want.

If you're looking for a fast, explosive, and highly rewarding endgame playstyle, Martial Artist is easily one of the best choices available right now

How it Plays

The build is very straightforward and easy to play

Ice Strike is your primary skill and should be used almost all the time. It provides your main source of damage, Freeze application, and Critical Strikes

Against large packs, Rare monsters, and especially bosses, place Tempest Bell whenever possible. This becomes one of your largest damage sources and dramatically improves your single-target damage

Hand of Chayula is used to apply Elemental Weakness and Freezing Mark to enemies, reducing their resistances and making them much easier to Freeze and kill.

Killing Palm is primarily used to generate Power Charges by destroying Hollow Focus bells. These Power Charges are then consumed by Rend, granting a large amount of additional Lightning Damage

Shattering Palm is responsible for the massive explosions seen during mapping. Jump into enemies, apply Ice Shards, and let the explosions chain through entire packs for extremely fast clear speed.

Meanwhile, Hollow Focus and Hollow Resonance continuously provide additional damage through their bell mechanics, activating naturally as you play

In short:

  • Use Ice Strike as your main attack
  • Place Tempest Bell for bosses and large packs
  • Use Hand of Chayula to apply Elemental Weakness and Freezing Mark
  • Use Killing Palm to generate Power Charges and activate Rend
  • Use Shattering Palm to trigger massive explosions while mapping

That's the core gameplay loop of the build

How it Works

This build revolves around Ice Strike, converting most of our Physical Damage into Cold Damage while scaling additional Fire and Lightning Damage through Way of the Stonefist and Elemental Conflux

Our goal is to stack Critical Strike Chance, Critical Strike Damage, and Elemental Damage to create a fast-paced melee build capable of freezing enemies consistently while dealing strong single-target and mapping damage

Hollow Focus and Hollow Resonance provide a large portion of our supplemental damage through their bell mechanics. Hollow Focus creates ethereal bells that explode when struck, while Hollow Resonance places a bell on our back that automatically triggers whenever we land Critical Strikes

By combining Ice Strike high attack speed with frequent Critical Strikes, these bells become a constant source of additional damage throughout combat

Defensively, the build relies on Evasion, Energy Shield, Freeze, Wind Dancer, and Way of the Mountain. Since Ice Strike freezes enemies frequently, we are able to maintain Mountain's Teachings stacks consistently, gaining both additional damage and survivability

Mana sustain is solved through Oisín's Oath combined with Physical Damage Leeched as Mana. By linking Oisín's Oath to Hollow Resonance, the bell's Elemental Damage continuously restores mana, allowing Ice Strike to be used without resource issues

The result is a smooth and highly satisfying endgame build capable of comfortably clearing Tier 15 maps while combining strong clear speed, reliable boss damage, excellent crowd control, and powerful elemental scaling
