Build Overview

This build centers around the Invoker ascendancy's Elemental Expression node, which triggers a fire/cold/lightning spell on melee crit. We use Spearfield with high crit chance to rapidly proc Elemental Expression.

Elemental Expression was previously a bit of a meme with low damage. However in patch 0.3 it got around a 60% more damage buff and new ways to scale it through support gems, perfect essences, new jewels, etc. The damage is now excellent when built correctly. Because Elemental Expression has fire, cold, lightning, and projectile tags it is easy to scale additional levels on this skill. We currently have a level 37 Elemental Expression.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Solid damage
Excellent crowd control: freeze, chill, slow, blind, and knockback
EV/ES is tanky
Hazards automatically trigger your damage for you, great for when mobs are spawning on top of you

Mana hungry
Uses a spear but can't use a Rhoa since it uses melee skills, so it's not the zoomiest
Needs specific uniques to function, not SSF friendly

The build becomes playable once you get a Sunsplinter shield and +5 projectile skills spear with high base crit chance. Hateforge is a nice late game addition which enables the use of Charge Regulation to get more crit chance, skill speed, and defenses.

You also need to get a high ES/EV or pure evasion body armour in order to get enough spirit from Invoker's Lead me through Grace... node to run all of our buffs.

We use From Nothing to allocate nodes near Mind Over Matter, picking up arcane surge chance on crit and additional arcane surge effect, as well as Breaking Point for shock and chill magnitude.

We also use Megalomaniac to allocate Endless Blizzard for +1 to cold skills, and Escalating Mayhem for an easy 50% increased damage. We annoint Stormcharged.
