This build is incredibly fun and takes advantage of
Gemling Legionnaire's new node
Advanced Thaumaturgy, which grants alternate quality effects to all your skill gems. In our case, we use
Tempest Flurry, a quarterstaff strike skill that deals a series of hits before calling down a bolt of lightning for one big final AoE hit. The alternate quality effect for this skill makes the final strike hit 1 additional target per 10% gem quality. We get >30% quality which, combined with Crescendo III for ancestrally boosted final strikes, makes tempest flurry's final strike hit 6 targets at once!
This is where the new unique quarterstaff
Duality comes in. This qstaff grants the Finality buff, which makes your strikes always skip to the final strike and gives them 100% increased crit chance. We utilize that crit for
Eventide Petals, which spawns ice crystals on top of enemies, giving us additional targets for all of our extra strikes to hit. This shotguns on bosses with
Tribal Fury for big damage.
Duality Tempest Flurry Gemling ft. Eventide Petals
Build Overview
Strengths and Weaknesses
- Fantastic clear with lots of AoE shotgunning
- 1-button playstyle (more or less)
- Great boss dps with Tempest Bells
- Very tanky (90% max all res!)
- Most fun I've had playing PoE2 so far
- Lowish life pool, despite good damage reduction and avoidance, can be vulnerable to DoT
- A little hard to cap res because we use 4 uniques that all have no resistance, and we need to get up to at least 90% for all our elemental resistances
- Not a leaguestarter, requires some specific uniques which aren't super cheap
Note that
Mageblood is absolutely NOT REQUIRED for this build. You can use any rare belt with life/resistances/armour instead. That said, it will make it easier to get to 90% max res.
Important note about
Duality: This staff needs to be upgraded via the runeforge to be good, and it has 3 different (random) outcomes: extra base crit, extra base attack speed, or extra base physical damage. The extra base physical damage upgrade is the best option by far, and is significantly more expensive than the other options but it's the one you want. You can try to get lucky and upgrade it yourself but the phys upgrade does seem to be rarer than the other two, so good Luck. Also, note that you need to unlock the Kalguuran Weaponsmithing recipe (found in Grand Expedition map underground areas) before you can upgrade it yourself.
Similarly,
Eventide Petals can be upgraded via the runeforge as well and has 3 different upgrade options: +2 level to all cold skills, +3% maximum cold resistance, and 20% increased maximum runic ward. Try to get one with maximum cold resistance. You need to unlock Kalguuran Jewelry recipe to upgrade it (again, found in Grand Expedition map underground areas).
For
Constricting Command, you really want one with "Requires 4 fewer enemies to be surrounded". You do NOT need to get a corrupted one with "Requires 5 fewer enemies...", as this does not make it so you can have no enemies nearby and still count as surrounded (it used to but this was nerfed).
For
Perfidy, make sure you get one with the "Raven-Touched" modifier, which allows you to annoint it with
Paragon. Not all
Perfidys will have this modifier so make sure you buy one with it otherwise it cannot be annointed.

Tempest Flurry is our main damage, with
Tempest Bell dropped on bosses or tanky rares for extra damage. Tempest flurry builds combo with each attack, and we can spend combo automatically by using Culmination II support on
Charged Staff,
Herald of Thunder, and
Wind Dancer. Note that you must first equip Living Lightning II on charged staff/herald of thunder before you can equip Culmination II, since they aren't melee skills but the living lightning minions are.
For power charge generation, we use
Killing Palm to cull enemies (and get rare modifiers via Einhar's Beastrite if you cull a rare). Also, we can put Ailith's Chimes + Culmination II on
Wind Dancer to automatically generate power charges whenever we get hit. You must equip Culmination II first before you are allowed to equip Ailith's Chimes.
Hand of Chayula is used to apply
Freezing Mark to bosses, in order to get the benefits of
Marked for Sickness and
Marked for Death.
Drop
War Banner for extra damage and defenses via Refraction II. It gets a huge AoE thanks to alt quality from Gemling.
Note that
Staggering Palm and
Quarterstaff Strike aren't really used and can have more or less any support gems socketed in order to fix your buffs from
Thaumaturgical Infusion and
Gem Studded. Try to balance strength and intelligence support gems and have more than (or equal to) your number of dex support gems in order to get the Red and Blue buffs from
Gem Studded.
