Tactician build using Twister to inflict Pinned with Suppressing Fire and generate Frenzy Charges with Combat Frenzy. Whirling Slash or Whirlwind Lance is used to create Whirlwinds which are consumed by Twisters to generate more Twisters and deal a lot more damage. Tame Beast is used for an Animal Companion that creates Shocked Ground to empower Twisters.

The Tactician offers a more defensive variant of the Twister build compared to the Huntress, with less damage.

General Gameplay (Whirling Slash Variant)

Use Whirling Slash three consecutive times to create a stage 3 Whirlwind, then use Twister in the Whirlwind to create many powered up Twisters. Use Barrage to create even more Twisters for tanky targets Rares/bosses. Use Frostbolt to create Chilled Ground to fire Twisters over for more damage, or fire Twisters over Ground Effects created by your tamed beast.

General Gameplay (Whirlwind Lance Variant)

Use Whirlwind Lance linked to Salvo and Scattershot to consume a Frenzy Charge and create stage 4 Whirlwinds, then use Twister into the Whirlwinds to create many powered up Twisters. Use Barrage before Whirlwind Lance if you don't have any Frenzy Charges. Frostbolt to create Chilled Ground to boost Twister damage, or fire your Twisters over any Ground Effects created by your tamed beast.

Bossing (Whirling Slash Variant)

During Boss encounters, try to ensure you have Chilled Ground from Frostbolt up with good uptime so fired Twisters can pick up extra damage from both Chilled Ground and Shocked Ground if possible. Prioritize building stage 3 Whirlwinds and waiting for Barrage to come off cooldown if necessary before using Twister to maximise damage from Twister collisions.

Bossing (Whirlwind Lance Variant)

For boss arenas you'll have lower Frenzy Charge generation. Prioritize using Barrage every time it comes off cooldown to boost Whirlwind Lance. Try to maintain Chilled Ground from Frostbolt.

Gearing

We're using Evasion/Energy Shield hybrid gear in this build. Focus on important affixes early instead of armour type (Life, Resistances, Attributes). In later progression, prioritize high Eva/ES gear.

Make sure to upgrade your Spear throughout progression - damage is mostly derived from weapon scaling, so keeping it up to date with current level upgrades will ensure smoother progression.

Seaglass Spear is the ideal option into the endgame as we progress towards crit as it provides 10% base critical hit chance.

Usage of Persistent Buff support gems depends on how much Spirit you have on your gear. Below is a priority order for usage:

Precision > Clarity > Warm Blooded > Strong Hearted > Cool Headed > Herbalism > Cannibalism


Note: Tame Beast should be used on a Rare beast with 'Trail of Lightning' modifier.

Take all of the damage nodes at the start (except for the Dispatch Foes crit wheel) all the way to Catapult before moving to the north side of the tree.

Crit is low priority until you have a good Seaglass Spear, so go for generic damage/defence nodes before that.

How it Works

Twister is a Spear projectile attack that spawns a projectile with a duration that moves around randomly and bounces off of walls/terrain (similar to ). The projectiles pierce all targets and can hit the same target multiple times - we're scaling duration and projectile speed to take advantage of this.

Twister has multiple built-in damage scaling mechanics:

  • Whirlwind Slash and Whirlwind Lance create Whirlwinds at the target location. Twister will consume the Whirlwind on contact to create an additional Twister and deal more damage. Whirlwinds can gain stages by being used again on top of an existing Whirlwind(up to stage 3). Each stage provides 80% more damage for the Twister. Whirlwind Lance instantly creates a maximum stage+1 Whirlwind if it consumes a Frenzy Charge. Twisters moving through or created by consuming a stage 4 Whirlwind will deal 320% more damage for example.
  • Twister can take on the effects of elemental Ground Effects such as Ignited Ground, Chilled Ground or Shocked Ground. When a Twister passes over one of these Ground Effects, it gains 50% extra damage of the respective elemental type for the remainder of its duration. We're using Explosive Spear to consume a Frenzy Charge to immediately detonate and create Ignited Ground.
  • Creating a Whirlwind on an elemental Ground Effect will create an elemental Whirlwind of the respective type. A Twister passing through an elemental Whirlwind will take on both of the above effects at the same time.

The Tactician will be able to Pin with projectile damage, providing easy Frenzy Charge generation using Combat Frenzy. Pinned enemies cannot move and cannot perform actions.
