Build Overview

Changes in 0.4.0:

Shortly:

  • Big buffs to Infused versions of Comet, Frost Wall and Ice Nova. So early/mid game we definitely using Infusions.
  • Leveling unchanged, early mapping also same with CoA Comet setup.
  • Unsure if i start 0.4 once again with this build tho.

Skills/Ascendancy:

  • Inevitable Agony now causes Cursed Targets to take 50% of Hit Damage dealt to them while Cursed again when Curse expires, instead of 33%. It also ignore Curse Limit.
    *Noticeable buff, now it's simply 50% More Damage button!
  • Comet: Fire Infused Comet got roughly 90% More (!) base Damage.
    *Seems like this time our endgame version will be around Infusions, GGG almost doubled base Damage of Fire Infused Comet
  • Eye of Winter: now travels much further, now has 25% Less Projectile Speed, and 10 Sec cooldown instead of 15 Sec.
    *Decent buff, Eye of Winter sometimes felt bad because of it's very short travel distance, with lower cooldown should feel much better in campaign!
  • Frostbolt: Now has actual Chill/Freeze Magnitude rather than applying Chill/Freeze as if dealing #% More Damage.
    *So now it just has more Chill Magnitude rather than that imaginary more damage for applying Chill, probably just to simplify things.
  • Frost Wall: Lightning Infused Frost Wall got ~50% More base Damage.
    *Another huge Infusion buff, nearly twice as much base Damage.
  • Ice Nova: Cold Infused Ice Nova got AoE buff from 3.2m to 4.8m, around 14% More base Damage, but +0.5 Sec added Cast Time.
    *Huge AoE buff, slight Damage buff of Cold Infusion, but that added 0.5 Sec to Cast Time might feel bad, will see.

Gear changes in 0.4.0:

  • Sacrosanctum now has 10-20% Life Recoup instead of 5-10%.
    *With nerfed Abyss Crafting that extra Life Recoup will make a difference!
  • Controlled Metamorphosis no longer has "-23--3% To Chaos Resistance".
  • Estazunti's Soul Core of Convalescence now limited to 1, has 8% Recoup instead of 6%.

Strengths and Weaknesses

  • Very flexible build, have many ways to play early, with one true endgame setup.
  • Clearing with Cast on Elemental Ailment and Comet is crazy.
  • At level 90 with decent gear you should have 5-8k ES.
  • Can farm Pinnacle Bosses at max difficulty, especially Recoup Setup that can just facetank them.
  • True offmeta!
  • Not fastest build you can play if you only care about clearing speed
  • If you play regular setup with Cast on Elemental Ailment and Comet with decent gear, it might cause fps drops because how many Comets you trigger :D
  • Only downside of Recoup, maps with high %Less Recovery mod will be hard.

Build Variants

DO NOT TRY TO BUILD THIS WITH 5 DIVINES OR SOMETHING!
IT COST WAY MORE, AROUND 50-100 Div!

Only downside of this setup - can't really run juiced map with %Less Recovery Rate modifier.

While previous Recoup setup reuse some of gear from regular setup, this one require fully new gear set, and that gear need to be really good.

This setup is peak of Cold Chronomancer:

  • Best defense that will keep you alive, unless you get oneshot which will happen rarely if ever, or if too many mobs will hit at the same time.
  • Best mana sustain, it's literally infinite, no need for Temporal Rift, you simply recover more mana with recoup than you spend on spells.
  • Best DPS, maybe not in PoB numbers, but in practice, because you cast non-stop and you don't need to dodge stuff (Uber Arbiter is only exception).
  • Best clearing, Frostbolt is very good for clearing just by it self, thank's to Quicksand Hourglass and new supports.

Crafting guide for Wand, Focus, Amulet, Ring and Boots - link!

One note, in crafting guide you can find two ways to craft different boots:
- Ones are just triple Resists.
- Other is double Resists + 100% Socketed Effect - since you lose one resist, you need to get it somewhere else, possibly it can be Midnight Braid corrupted with %Resist, or possibly use Elemental Resist runes in Sacrosanctum.

Rest of items:

  • Scold's Bridle with 2 Sockets with like 90-95%+ Mana taken roll
  • Sacrosanctum with %Mana Recoup corrupted enchant, ofc 2 sockets, ideally good roll for Recoup
  • Maligaro's Virtuosity with 2 Sockets, higher Crit Chance roll is good to have
  • Midnight Braid corrupted with atleast 60% Mana Recoup and ideally good Resist roll
  • Snakepit with good corrupt, like %Damage, %Chaos Res, %All Ele Res.
    I recommend buying uncorrupted Snakepit rings with good roll, add Caster quality and Vaal with omen
  • Blood of the Warrior to get extra Life Recoup, look for good roll
  • Nascent Hope for freeze removal
  • Forsaken Bangle for Chaos Recoup
  • Third Charm socket is flexible
  • Controlled Metamorphosis with Medium-Small radius, perfect roll isn't expensive.
  • Megalomaniac with either Adverse Growth or Infused Flesh, then instil other one on amulet.
  • Heart of the Well with Speed of Recoup Effects plus anything useful like %Extra Damage, %Crit Chance, %Life Recoup, or few other mods.

Build is really light with only 6 skills, you can use other stuff, but it just not needed.

Notes:

  • To get more Exposure from Frost Bomb remove Short Fuse II.
  • 3 Main Skills set only to Weapon Set 1. Elemental Weakness only for Weapon Set 2.
  • Zenith II is used on all Damage Spells, insanely good support for this build, not only 30% More Damage, but also another 25% of Manacost Recoup as Mana.

Other stuff:

  • If you get Amulet with enough Spirit, can use Blasphemy with Temporal Chains.
  • In theory you can get enough Spirit from Amulet and Sacrosanctum implicit to use only Cast on Critical and Archmage and since build has infinite mana, it's just free damage from Archmage.
  • Wouldn't recommend using Mana Tempest, sure it give damage, but it eats mana really fast, i rather have infinite mana and just cast nonstop.
  • Flame Wall add a bit of damage to Frostbolt, can use or not, whatever.

Controlled Metamorphosis allocation:

  • Stormbreaker and Sudden Escalation with weapon set 1 points.
  • Soul Bloom, Arcane Blossom and Roil with normal points.

For ascendancy:

  • Must have: The Rapid River, Quicksand Hourglass and Temporal Rift.
  • Optional: any of 4 reachable passives.
  • Time Freeze needed only on Uber Arbiter, if you going to.
  • Now and Again just useful for Frost Bomb and Temporal Rift.
  • Apex of the Moment might be best option for mapping.
  • Inevitable Agony if you need even more damage for bosses for some reason.

How it Plays

Unsure yet, there's couple possible options for clearing.

  • New Frost Darts with Frost Wall, and possibly Flame Wall.
  • Maybe Ice Nova with Frost Wall.
  • Possibly Frostbolt with Snakepit if two options above won't be good.
  • Snap no longer viable because it has 4 sec cooldown, so can't be used as main clearing spell.

September 11, 2025: Added final version of Cold Chronomancer based around Recoup, build is done. Some small tweaks might happen if they improve the build.
September 17, 2025: Improved tree for Main Recoup Setup.

Nov 7, 2025: Improved tree for Early Mapping, CoA Comet and CoA/CoC (Maligaro) setups, weapon set 2 passives were use on Reverberation, which was meh, now they used on Lingering Whispers and Master of Hexes, so more curse effect for Elemental Weakness, and more damage as result.
