Overview

Granblue Fantasy: Relink is an action RPG from Cygames, set in the expansive Granblue Fantasy universe. If you’re jumping in for 2026, it’s a great moment to star.

The Endless Ragnarok expansion has now launched, crossplay works across PC, PlayStation, and Switch, and many of the old grind-heavy frustrations have been eased slightly. You’ll still need to finish the base game first, so here’s what’s truly important for new players, along with some early pitfalls to avoid.

Play the Story First, Don't Grind Yet

It’s sometimes tempting to start farming repeatable quests and side missions right away, but you might want to hold off. Early on, you’re just spending time for low-level rewards you’ll soon outgrow.

Focus on advancing the main story first, as it unlocks the core systems and better farming opportunities. Once you reach the first credits and hit Veteran Skyfarer rank, you’ll access Hard, Very Hard, and Extreme quests.

That’s where the real grind and best gear begin. You can expect it to take about 9-10 hours, so treat the campaign as a tutorial that supplies you with resources.

Don't Overthink Elements Early

Elemental advantage is helpful but certainly not essential, especially in the early game. You can finish the main story comfortably with a single team you enjoy playing, without worrying about matching elements constantly.

While elements have their place, even late game players can use the War Elemental sigil to automatically convert their damage to match enemy weaknesses. This solves most elemental concerns in one slot. Don’t waste time building teams for every element at the start. Instead, just stick with a lineup you like and keep moving forward.

Pick a Character You Actually Enjoy

For newcomers, Lancelot and Charlotta are both excellent, beginner choices. Lancelot is quick, uses dual blades, and excels at crowd control. Charlotta swings a massive sword but attacks fast and has an invincibility skill, making her perfect for learning boss mechanics. Both are straightforward and reward aggressive play, ideal while you get used to the game.

Finish Fate Episodes for Free Power

Every character comes with Fate Episodes, and they’re easy to overlook. Most are simple text stories, but finishing them grants permanent stat boosts and, importantly, additional sigil slots.

More sigil slots give you more flexibility for builds, so complete these episodes whenever you unlock one. It’s some of the easiest power you can obtain in the game.

Get to Know the Training Dummy (and the Damage Cap Display)

You'll find the training dummy aboard the Grandcypher after Chapter 4, reachable from the port. Every character plays differently, so learning your main's moves is time well spent. This is where the pro players started and where they keep going back.

There's a 2026 reason to love it, as well. The training dummy now has a damage cap display: switch it on and your hits show as a percentage of your damage cap instead of a raw number. That leads straight into the single most misunderstood stat in the game.

Understand Damage Cap

Damage cap is the stat that often confuses new players. As you boost attack, crit, and traits like Tyranny, you’ll eventually reach a point where your damage numbers stop increasing.

To avoid this, try to use damage cap sigils to raise the limit, then continue building up attack underneath it. Not sure if you’re capped? The new percentage display will tell you directly. 100% means you’re fully optimized, while values above it indicate you’ve over invested in raw damage and should swap some for more cap or utility. There’s also a faint glow on your damage numbers when you hit the cap, which helps you spot it during battle without checking menus.

Keep all Sigils and Treasures

It might seem logical to sell off extra sigils and treasures, but that can actually be a mistake. These items are valuable currency for Knickknack Vouchers at Siero’s shop. Trade them in, then use vouchers to transmute for even better sigils.

If you’re short on rupies, the cash from your farming runs will cover your needs. Sell glitter crystals for money, but hang onto everything else for upgrades and crafting.

Combat Comfort: Block, Jump

New players often focus too much on perfect dodging. While it’s satisfying, it’s not your only defensive option. Many enemy attacks can be blocked or jumped over instead, and blocking is forgiving enough to rely on while you’re still learning. If you guard and dodge together, a poorly timed dodge will still be covered by your guard. Just try to avoid spamming, since your guard can break and the third dodge in a row leaves you vulnerable.

A Quick Word on Endless Ragnarok

You’ll get to the expansion soon enough, so here’s what to expect. Endless Ragnarok introduces Conflux, a roguelike mode for targeted material farming, six new playable characters, and the Master Traits system, which changes up character builds.

It also brings many QOL features you’re already enjoying, like the improved Full Assist Mode for AFK farming and the new damage cap display. These aren’t things you need to worry about early, but they’ll be ready once your main team is set up.
