Overview

Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave is the (undetermined) sequel/prequel to Fire Emblem: Three Houses, which launched way back on July 26th 2019. It's the 18th mainline entry in the series, following Fire Emblem: Engage from January 20th 2023 (Three Houses being the 16th title).

After waiting several months since its initial reveal back in September 2025, we finally get a closer look and a confirmed release date from the June 2026 Direct.

Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave releases exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2 on September 17th 2026.

Four Playable Routes

The story begins in the Dagdan Empire where they are hosting the "Heroic Games". It appears to be the central plot of the story, as the winner will be granted one wish.

There are four separate playable routes, each following the storyline of their respective characters as they compete for their own reasons.

We don't know much yet, but here's a quick introduction of each character's motives.

Cai

Kindhearted Boy from Ribeira Village

Story Motive: Save his imprisoned father.

Dietrich

Calendar System

Just like the gameplay of Three Houses, Fortune's Weave will also have a calendar system of sorts. How this will work has yet to be revealed, but we can see the existence of "Free Time" and "turns".

So far we can already see the return of familiar mechanics, including a training/coliseum area, hub-based recruiting, and meals with other characters (likely for support points and/or combat bonuses).

Beyond that, there's a huge looking map with various nodes to explore. This will obviously include additional combat skirmishes, but there's likely so much more!

Combat Mechanics

The combat mechanics appear as expected thus far, including the return of Combat Arts. Additionally, we can see that there are weapons that enable certain Combat Arts when equipped.

While this did exist in Three Houses, it was often limited to exclusive relic weapons. However, in the image below we can see it available on a weapon obtained from a treasure chest. Seeing this, perhaps these weapon-tied Combat Arts will be more readily available.

One new addition to Fortune's Weave is that each main protagonist has their own exclusive ability. They showcased an example with Cai, where he blasted a huge dark magical AoE at his foes.

From what we saw in the trailer, this was strong enough to delete multiple foes at a time. In previous titles, AoE damage would typically leave a unit at 1 HP but not kill them. Knowing that, it's pretty clear that these special techniques are very powerful.

Sothis Teaser

The trailer ends with our first look at the antagonist who mentions the "Advent of the Underworld". Afterwards, it's followed by Sothis speaking of "the promised one who will guide the living to salvation".

Everything else remains unclear at this time, so we'll have to wait until more details are revealed in a future Nintendo Direct!
