Monster Hunter WildsOmega Planetes Guide - Weaknesses, Location, Armor & More

Overview

Omega Planetes is a new monster introduced to Monster Hunter Wilds in Title Update 3 as part of the Final Fantasy XIV Collaboration. This four-legged robot will challenge hunters in ways not seen before in the game, making coordination among hunters essential.

This hunt has several new mechanics to look out for, making it the most complex one in the game so far. In this article, we’ll go over all of them so you can utilise them against Omega Planetes and ensure victory.

This guide is written by @dxvis.

Final Fantasy XIV Collaboration Walkthrough

Hunters must be HR41+ before the collab becomes available. After that, look for a dialogue cue (blue exclamation mark) at Rover’s location, near Area 20 Camp in the Iceshard Cliffs.

First, you’ll need to complete the assignment “The Beacon of Invasion”, where you’ll face off against Omega Micros and a Nerscylla Clone (You can find info on it further below).

After completing it, Hunters will gain access to the Soul of the Pictomancer, and Omega Planetes will become available in the assignment “Invader from the Stars.”

Hunters who take down Omega Planetes will gain access to its weapons, armor, and various rewards. Additionally, a stronger version of Omega Planetes can be fought in the optional quest “Planetes Protocol (Savage)” for HR100+ players.

Location

Omega Planetes’ fight takes place in the Rimechain Peak (Jin Dahaad’s arena). Make use of the available falling boulders available from phase 2 forward.

How to Prepare

Omega Planetes requires extensive preparation.

Hunt Squad and Enmity

The fight is easier in multiplayer due to Omega’s enmity mechanic, making it focus a single player while others can dish out DPS. If you’re playing in a 4-hunter squad, at least one hunter should have a weapon capable of guarding and focus on getting Omega’s enmity. If you’re playing solo, consider calling on SOS hunters to aid in the fight, as there are Lance and Hunting Horn support hunters that can greatly help.

Meals

The Kunafa meal is the best one because it offers Insurance Meal and Felyne Defender (Hi), two strong defensive Skills. Otherwise, eat Vegetables, Delishroom, and Eastern Honey to max out defensive capabilities.

Items

Bring multiplayer healing items like the Lifepowder and Dust of Life. Don’t forget Hot Drinks and more healing items, like Mega Potion, Potion + Honey (to craft more if needed), Max Potion, Ancient Potion, and Well-Done Steaks.

Mantles

The Evasion Mantle and Mending Mantle are excellent choices for this fight as they’ll help you dodge or heal more easily.

Skills

Since this is a multiplayer-focused fight, equipping Wide-Range will help your squad avoid carting, thus greatly increasing the chances of victory. Additional defensive skills like Divine Blessing will greatly help you survive the fight. Evade Extender will help you roll away from Omega’s numerous AoE blasts, too.

Element

Omega Planetes is weak to Thunder, so bringing in Artian or Lagiacrus weapons will make the fight easier.

Equipment

Omega Planetes should be faced with Rarity 8 weapons and endgame armor. Don’t forget to upgrade your armor with Armor Sphere. Defensive Set Bonuses like Zoh Shia’s HP Regeneration can help further boost survivability.

Mechanics to Look Out For

Omega Planetes’ fight has many new mechanics, and knowing about them is essential in order to ensure victory.

Attack Cues in the Message Bar

In true FFXIV fashion, the message bar will reveal the move that Omega is about to use, allowing you to anticipate it and act accordingly. This doesn’t happen for every attack, however, but it helps hunters prepare for its deadliest attacks, like the Starboard Wave Cannon. Keep an eye out for yellow notifications during the fight.

Nerscylla Clone

The Nerscylla Clone has three notable new moves, all involving laser beams fired at hunters. Look for distinct robotic audio cues to help you identify these attacks:

  • Forward laser beam. Nerscylla’s jaws will glow before firing a laser beam directly forward. Dodge to the sides to avoid the attack.
  • 360-degree laser beam. Nerscylla will emit a light in a 360-degree angle, and its jaws will glow, then fire a laser in a 360-degree angle to its right. Dodge away from it, as the laser does not cover much distance.
  • Orbital lasers. The spikes on its back will glow as Nerscylla crouches, before firing two rounds of lasers from above. You can avoid these by being directly underneath Nerscylla or dodging away from it.

Soul of the Pictomancer

This is a new item that you can equip to use Pictomancer arts from the item bar or radial menu.

After using the item, the hunter will deal AoE damage in the direction they’re currently facing. It deals double damage to Omega Planetes and the Nerscylla Clone, and can instantly kill a large number of Omega Micros.

The Pictomancer art becomes more powerful as you use it: After using the Pom Motif, you’ll gain access to the Wing Motif, dealing more damage in a larger area, and finally to the Mog of the Ages, a laser beam that deals up to 1100 damage.

Use the Soul of the Pictomancer whenever there’s an opening or you need to bring down Omega Micros, as the Mog of the Ages is a devastating move that can stagger Omega Planetes too.

Tip: Charge the Mog of the Ages and use it when the Nerscylla Clone appears during the fight. It will help your squad bring it down quicker, ensuring a shield for Omega’s Delta Attack.

Omega Micros

Omega Planetes will deploy smaller Omega Micros. These will home in on nearby hunters and explode on contact, but can be defeated swiftly. Glowing Omega Micros will generate a shield after being taken down.

Cactuars

Cactuars will show up in phases 3 and 4. Hitting them with an attack or the Slinger Hook will cause them to explode, dealing high damage around them. Use the Cactuars when Omega Planetes is nearby.

Morbols

Morbols will show up in phases 3 and 4. Hitting them with an attack or the Slinger Hook will cause them to emit a poisonous cloud, causing various harming status effects like Paralysis and Poison. These can be deadly for hunters, so avoid standing near them. However, they can hit monsters too, so use the Morbols to your advantage.

Omega Planetes Moves and Phases

Phases

Omega’s fight takes place in all the four areas of the Rimechain Peak, and will move across them after enough damage is dealt. It also gains access to Pantokrator Mode in Phase 2, and Delta Attack in Phase 3.

Additionally, Omega becomes quicker as the fight goes on, being able to combine multiple moves together or target more hunters with its attacks.

Pantokrator Mode

Omega will enter Pantokrator Mode after enough damage has been dealt to it. It works as if it was enraged, making it more mobile and allowing it to chain multiple attacks after one another. During Pantokrator mode, one player should get Enmity while the rest of the squad focuses on Omega’s legs. After two or three leg wounds have been destroyed, Omega will get knocked out of Pantokrator Mode.

Pictomancer Arts make it easier to open Wounds, so don’t forget to use them when there’s an opening!

Shields

Players can create shields to avoid most of Omega Planetes’ attacks, while reducing damage from others. These will cover any hunters within the shield area. Shields can be created in three main ways:

  • Taking down glowing Omega Micros.
  • Hitting wounds on Omega’s head.
  • Taking down the Nerscylla Clone. This is the only shield that will defend players from Omega’s Delta Attack.

Cross Fire Explosion

Omega will crouch, and a red crossed pattern will appear on the floor. Omega will set the marked area on fire after a brief delay. Avoid Omega’s front, back, and sides, and stay in its quadrants to avoid the move.

Leg Stomp

Omega will lift up one of its legs (can be any!) and stomp the ground around it. This attack has some homing and will target nearby hunters. In Pantokrator mode, Omega can chain multiple stomps and lift two legs at once, making this move more difficult to dodge.

Leap

Omega will hover in the air for a second before vaulting onto a player. You can dodge this attack in any direction.

Charge

Omega stays put in place while readying a lunge forward. You can see the attack coming by the steam coming off from underneath.

Laser Beams

Omega can fire 5 laser beams from its front, back, or either side. These appear directly beneath him, but take a second to start moving forward, giving you space to dodge. You can try getting in between them, or move to the side before they reach. Don’t try dodging into Omega unless you’re already very close to it, as the lasers can hit slightly underneath.

Rocket Punch

Omega will target one or more players before firing rocket fists at them, which must be destroyed by hitting them with weapon attacks or slinger ammo before they make contact.

Front Shots

While maneuvering around the battlefield, Omega can fire barrages of three shots at players. These have a small hitbox and can be avoided by walking sideways.

Mustard Bomb

Omega will target a player and a signal will appear on its head. After 5 seconds, the bomb will fall atop a player, setting the ground on Fire. You can dodge or run away to avoid being hit. The Fire will stay on the ground for a brief time, and setting foot on it will deal massive damage over time.

Orbital Bomb

Omega can fire bombs at target players during its other moves. Stay on your toes to avoid getting hit by these.

Omega Micros Deployment

Omega can deploy Micro units, which will home in on players and explode. Glowing Omega Micros will generate a shield when taken down, making them very valuable, as players will be able to freely damage Omega inside a shield. Use Pictomancer arts to take down multiple Omega Micros at once.

Underneath Fire Explosion

Omega can ready a fire explosion directly underneath it. The area of effect is considerably bigger than the red warning area suggests, so move away and don’t attack him for the duration of the fire explosion.

Triple Sideways Fire Explosion

During Pantokrator Mode, Omega can hop around the area while firing side fire explosions up to three times. Keep on the move and avoid standing near Omega when it fires them.

Airborne Laser

Omega will hover in the air as its face glows and fire a laser beam that follows a player. You can run to the sides to avoid the attack and dish out damage while Omega is still in the animation.

Starboard Wave Cannon

Omega performs a 180-degree strike with its body and fires laser beams to its right. The area hit explodes after a brief delay. Dodge by staying beneath him or getting away from him. The message cue happens 4 to 5 seconds before the attack does, giving plenty of time for evading.

Larboard Wave Cannon

Omega performs a 180-degree strike with its body and fires laser beams to its left. The area hit explodes after a brief delay. Dodge by staying beneath him or getting away from him. The message cue happens 4 to 5 seconds before the attack does, giving plenty of time for evading.

Delta Attack

After dealing enough damage to Omega, it will start its Delta attack. A Clone Nerscylla and multiple Omega Micros will appear. Use Cactuars, Morbols, and Mog of the Ages to stagger and bring down the Nerscylla Clone, which will generate a big shield for cover.

Fight Strategy and Weak Spots to Focus

Bring in a balanced hunting squad with at least one hunter with a shield. All hunters should have AoE healing items (Dust of Life and Lifepowder) or the Wide-Range Skill to aid with healing.

Use Enmity to your advantage: Omega will primarily focus the hunter with Enmity, so others are free to hit from the sides or behind. Avoid grouping up with a hunter that has Omega’s Enmity.

Many of Omega’s attacks have large Area of Effects, so avoid grouping up with other hunters as to not hit each other.

Focus Omega Micros and Nerscylla Clones when they show up, as they can generate shields to protect the squad from Omega’s attacks.

Omega’s leg quadrants are safe spots safe from the vast majority of its attacks, including the Cross Fire Explosion and the Laser Beams. DPS hunters should stay in those positions during the fight as often as possible.

Omega’s back protrusion is its weakest spot, but it is only reachable when it is knocked down. Its head is a weakspot, but it makes the player who hit it gain Enmity. Its front legs are weak to Blunt and Shot damage, while its rear legs are weak to Slash damage.
