Monster Hunter WildsHirabami Guide - Weaknesses, Location, Armor & More

Overview

At rest, this monster looks like a curtain draped over the floating debris of the Iceshard Cliffs. However, Hunters will find these flat Leviathan type monsters are as dangerous as they come. They like to stay afloat and harass both Hunters and monsters alike with constant barrages of spit and tail attacks. The tail attacks are no joke though because of the pincers aligned all over the end of it. Fear this dangerous curtain, it's a Hirabami!

This guide is written by JourneyFar.

Location

Hirabami can be found in the Iceshard Cliffs, Ruins of Wyveria, and Wounded Hollow.

How to Prepare

Hirabami consistently takes to the air so s will ground the monster.

It can travel in packs so bring s to disperse groups and isolate the target.

They like to dodge and disrupt hunting flow by roaring so can help Hunters keep up their attacks.

The Hirabami has different moves while aloft or on the ground but the tail can be hit normally even with short weapons.

It's capable of so Hunters should carry s to remove the status effect.

or over 20 can help reduce or negate the that this monster is capable of.

s also help to reduce the unexpected heavier hitting moves like the quick tail slam or bite down moves.

Completing a Focus Strike on its tail will ground the monster for good follow-up attacks.

Mechanics to Look Out For

Hirabami is capable of basic swipes with the forelegs while aloft. This light attack is easily avoidable because their forelegs are quite short.

While aloft, it will sometimes perform a minor lunging bite. Performed to move around the map and dodge Hunter’s attacks.

Tail Whip

A very common attack while aloft is the tail whip. It's a quick attack that is telegraphed by the pincers opening up then whipping it forward.

Ice Spit

The most common attack is the ice spit. This can happen both in the air or on the ground. It can also come with 1 spit forward or 3 spit spread pattern, and leaves an ice trail if it hits the floor.

Bite Down

A grounded Hirabami tends to do a bite down technique where they quickly bite down into the ground in front of it. Dodging this forward attack will give Hunters a big opening as it has to pry its mouth out of the ground after missing.

Side Slam

A heavy hitting move that uses their whole body to slam into their opponent. It has a strong and wide range because it positions itself sideways to use its whole length, then flips themselves over due to the momentum. This leaves a good opening to attack if dodged or blocked.

Tail Slam

This is capable of being performed both in the air or on the ground. It's telegraphed by the Hirabami rearing its tail and releasing its pincers to slam into the ground.

Coil Charge

There are different variations that can be performed in both the air or on the ground. The Hirabami will coil up before rushing a Hunter down with a charging attack. It also has an enraged variation that has Hirabami coil up, then it will charge around a small area in a circular fashion.

Tail Sweep

Executed while aloft, the Hirabami will first slam their tail on the ground then quickly sweep the area. It encompasses a wide area so it is hard to dodge if you're caught in the range of the tail slam.
