Marvel RivalsMarvel Rivals Scarlet Witch Character Guide
Scarlet Witch Overview
The Scarlet Witch harnesses the power of chaos magic to Phase, attack, and explode on the battlefield. Mechanically, she is one of the easiest heroes to use as her primary fire auto-tracks her enemies, and she has two charades of invulnerable movement. Her difficulty lies in decision making and finding ways to get value out of her medium range, low damage attacks. Wanda provides her team the most value when she takes out or constantly hinders the enemy’s Strategists. While she is currently viewed as a weaker low-tier pick, with the right strategy she can still take over lobbies.

TLDR
How to Play As
- Help your team fight high-mobility enemies like Black Panther. Use your stun and auto-tracking attack to counter their evasive movement.
- Always save one Mystic Projection so you can escape death. Never use both in a row just to fly around.
- Hide behind the cover while channelling your ultimate, or have a teammate protect you with shields and healing.
How to Play Against
- Focus on aiming not evading. Strafing and jumping won’t cause her to miss any damage. Stand still and make sure your attacks hit.
- Shoot her or stun her during her ultimate. Unless her team protects her, the best way to deal with her ult is by attacking her rather than hiding.
- Stay out of her primary fire range (20m), and she won’t be a threat.
Strengths and Weaknesses Summary
- Auto-tracking hitscan
- Two invincible escapes
- Lingering stun
- Easy to stun and kill out of ultimate
- Low damage per second
- Only effective at short-range
Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths
Auto-tracking hitscan
Everyone misses shots, even the best of the best. When playing Scarlet Witch, you’ll have near aimbot accuracy since her tracking mechanic functions in a very large area.
Two invincible escapes
Most heroes don’t have any invincibility. Wanda has two charges of a completely invulnerable movement ability.
Lingering stun
Having a stun that hits multiple times is great for throwing at chokes and interrupting enemy movements.
Weaknesses
Easy to stun and kill out of ultimate
There are several heroes with stuns that instantly cancel her ultimate. She also moves slowly and can’t attack or fade while channelling the ultimate. Her ult is the hardest ult in the game to get value out of. Sometimes, it's better to just not use it so you don’t risk dying.
Low damage per second
Her attacks have the lowest DPS of all the Duelists. Even many of the Strategists can beat her in a Duel if they hit most of their shots.
Only effective at short-range
Although she has a ranged attack, the ammo is limited and only recharges quickly with damage from her primary fire. Since her primary fire’s range is limited, she has to get close to her targets if she wants to find value.

Tips for Primary Fire: Chaos Control
- Doesn’t auto-aim aim but has a large area around your crosshairs in which it will automatically track the closest enemy.
Focus Strategists
- Wanda is good at harassing Strategists and forcing them to run away. Attack them whenever possible to prevent them from healing the rest of their team.
- Especially with the Season 2 rework, Wanda has greatly increased damage against Duelists and Strategists.
Ultimate: Reality Erasure
DESCRIPTION | Engage in free-flight while charging energy, then unleash it to deal massive damage |

BONUS HEALTH (SELF) | 100 |
SPECIAL EFFECT | During this period, Scarlet Witch enters a Free-flight state |
Tips for Ultimate: Reality Erasure
Call for team protection.
- Allies like Magneto and Invisible Woman can shield Wanda during her ultimate. When she’s properly shielded from damage and stuns, her ultimate either forces the enemy to run and hide.
- Most players are used to being able to stop her ultimate, so shielding her can catch them off guard and out in the open.
Hide behind cover while channeling your ultimate.
- Once she begins shouting, it takes four full seconds to explode. Stay protected behind cover until just before the explosion.
[SHIFT]: Mystic Projection
DESCRIPTION | Enter the Phased state for free-flight. Press again to exit early |
KEY | SHIFT |
CASTING | Dash |
DURATION | 1.5s |
MOVEMENT BOOST | 50% |
CHARGES | 2 |
RECHARGE SPEED | 10s per charge |
SPECIAL EFFECT | During this period, Scarlet Witch enters the Projection state |
Tips for [SHIFT]: Mystic Projection
- Two charges let you use one for movement and still have one ready as an escape.
Long Duration
- Most invincible abilities in Marvel Rivals have very brief windows, like Star-Lord’s Stellar Shift. The 1.5-second duration of Mystic Projection makes it very easy to time dodges.
Cast time and startup frames
- Don’t wait until the last second to Phase when evading ultimates like Iron Man, Doctor Strange, and Moon Knight because she doesn’t become invulnerable instantly.
- Neither charge cooldown refreshes when in the Phased state. So calculate uptime accordingly.
- Healing auras like Luna Snow’s Share the Stage still heal during Phased state.
E: Dark Seal
DESCRIPTION | Land a hit on a target or the scene, or press E to generate a Force Field that periodically Stuns enemies within range. |
KEY | E |
CASTING | Straight-line projectile that generates a spell field upon impact |
PROJECTILE SPEED | 40 m/s |
SPELL FIELD GENERATION DELAY | 0.8s |
RANGE | 3m spherical radius |
SPELL FIELD DURATION | 4.5s |
DETECTION INTERVAL | 1.25s |
STUN DURATION PER DETECTION | 0.5s |
Tips for E: Dark Seal
Stun choke pokes
- When the enemy team is returning to fight and are entering through a doorway, you can throw Dark Seal on the entrance to stun each enemy who passes through.
Prevent movement abilities
- Especially against heroes like Hulk and Thor, who have to charge up their jumps, the brief but repeated stun greatly hinders his ability to escape.
Prevent Escapes
- Throw Dark Seal directly behind or in the path of an enemy trying to retreat to safety. They’ll get stunned multiple times and likely be killed by your team.
[Space]: Telekinesis
DESCRIPTION | Hold Space to fall slowly. |
KEY | SPACE |
HORIZONTAL MOVEMENT SPEED | 6 m/s |
DESCENDING SPEED | 3.5 m/s |
Tips for [Space]: Telekinesis
- Against melee enemies, fly up with Mystic Projection, then float and attack them from the sky.
- Floating and shooting Chthonian Burst downwards helps to land consistent splash damage.
Secondary Fire: Chthonian Burst
DESCRIPTION | Consume Chaos Energy to fire explosive magic missiles, damaging enemies. |
KEY | Left Click |
CASTING | Straight-line projectile that generates a spell field upon impact |
PROJECTILE SPEED | 120 m/s |
PROJECTILE DAMAGE | 40 |
RANGE | 3m spherical radius |
SPELL FIELD DAMAGE | 40 |
CHARGES | 4 |
DEFAULT CHARGING SPEED | 0.2/s |
Tips for Secondary Fire: Chthonian Burst
Most valuable damage
- Never go in deep on a fight without all four charges available. Winning duels is incredibly difficult if you don’t have your secondary fire available.
Splash damage
- Shooting from high ground or at your target's feet can cause missed shots to explode on the ground next to them and still cause splash damage. Doing this will increase your overall consistency.
- Fire into groups of enemies for increased damage output and ultimate charge.
Team-Up: Sorcery Surge
DESCRIPTION | Doctor Strange shares his arcane mastery, replacing Scarlet Witch's Chthonian Burst with Mystic Burst upon activation. Hold down the attack button to unleash a rapid, relentless salvo of magical missiles in the target direction |
KEY | Secondary Fire |
CASTING | Straight-line projectile that generates a spell field upon impact |
PROJECTILE SPEED | 120 m/s |
PROJECTILE DAMAGE | 10 |
SPELL FIELD RANGE | 1.5 spherical radius |
SPELL FIELD DAMAGE | 12 |
FIRE RATE | 0.15s per round |
DURATION | 10s |
COOLDOWN | 30S |
SPECIAL MECHANIC | Chaos Control can be released during the Sorcery Surge |
Tips for Sorcery Surge
Hold Primary and Secondary fire
- Wanda fires both abilities simultaneously during her Team-Up Ability. Make sure you hold both down for the full duration to maximize damage output.
Save for flanks
- The best use of Sorcery Surge is surprising an enemy Strategist with the burst damage. You'll score plenty of backline assassinations using her Team-Up in this manner.
Use Strange's Shield
- Since you'll have Strange on your team, be sure to take advantage of his huge shield when using your ultimate. Have Strange walk ahead of where you plan on exploding so he can protect you from stuns and damage.
Short effective downtime
- Although the cooldown is 30s, it begins as soon as the ability is activated, so you'll only have 20s of downtime in between uses!
Synergies
Team Comp Synergies
Team comps built around Scarlet Witch let her be a soft flanker. Her team can enable her flank play style by either offering long-range healing and damage to her engagement or by winning the frontline battle while she takes up the enemy’s healing resources.
Other than during her ultimate, Scarlet Witch is very independent and doesn’t need to rely on ally support which makes her teammate hero selection flexible. The main thing she needs is another Duelist with high dps and teammates who can protect her while channeling her ultimate.
Team Comp Example
- Vanguards: Magneto, Doctor Strange
- Duelists: Scarlet Witch, The Punisher
- Strategists: Invisible Woman, Mantis
Hero Synergies
Vanguards: Magneto

Magneto is practically a requirement to play Scarlet Witch. He can walk in front of you while ulting and hold his shield up. When you go for a backline ult, he can throw Metal Bulwark on Wanda and she’ll actually be able to survive until the explosion and not get stunned.
Duelists: The Punisher

One downside of having Wanda on a team is a lack of damage output. She wants another duelist to be her team’s primary source of damage, making The Punisher the perfect choice. While Scarlet Witch goes around and attacks the Strategists, Frank has the opportunity to focus down the Vanguards. Both of their ults make space better than any other Duelist. When used in coordination, they can force funnel the enemy team anywhere they please.
Strategists: Invisible Women

The best way to make Scarlet Witch’s ult effective is to make it difficult for the enemy to shut her down. Sue has three abilities to empower Wanda’s ult. She can place her shield in front of Wanda while channeling ult to protect her from stuns.
Additionally, Sue’s ult makes Wanda invisible to everyone outside the field while healing her faster than she can get killed. Lastly, Force Physics can be used to either push or pull enemies into the explosion radius.
