Marvel Rivals Gorr: The God Butcher Character Guide
Gorr Overview
After wielding the power of All-Black the Necrosword against the would-be gods of Thebes, the God Butcher's dark crusade brings him to Marvel Rivals with Season 10!
Gorr stalks his enemies with an elusive get-in-get-out playstyle. Excelling with Gorr demands a bit more effort than the average hero in the roster. The reward is worth it as his kit is both strong and versatile. Although dive Duelists have taken a bit of a back seat recently (outside of Black Cat), Gorr's hybrid dive style has the potential to shift the meta back a more aggressive and mobility focused team comps.

TLDR GORR Guide
As
- Set up Berserkers before fully committing to a fight. Use Necro-Power to engage and bring your Berserkers onto your target, but try to keep one available somewhere safe so Shadow Harvest can teleport you out when the fight turns against you.
- Use your mobility to avoid taking unnecessary poke damage. Gorr is at his strongest in close-range brawls, so use flank routes, Berserker teleports, and Living Abyss to safely close the distance instead of walking directly through enemy sightlines.
- Snowball eliminations into overwhelming pressure. Every elimination gives you another Berserker, which means more damage, Bonus Health, and teleport options. During Twilight of the Gods, keep as many Berserkers active as possible to maximize your damage and sustain.
Against
- Destroy his Black Berserkers as quickly as possible. They provide Gorr with Bonus Health, increased dps, and the ability to teleport away. Removing them dramatically reduces both his survivability and mobility.
- Keep Gorr at range and force him to spend resources just to reach you. His ranged pressure is limited compared to most Duelists, so poke, knockbacks, slows, and other CC can make it difficult for him to safely enter melee range.
- Track Living Abyss and punish Gorr after he commits it. The invulnerable dash is one of his strongest engagement and escape tools. Forcing him to use it defensively (or surviving his initial engage after he uses it offensively) creates your best opportunity to CC and burst him down.
Strengths and Weaknesses Summary
- Deployables are difficult for enemies to deal with
- Solid solo carry potential
- High self sustain
- Survivability greatly depends on Berserker management
- Large hurtbox
- Feast or famine kit
Strengths and Weaknesses Explained
Strengths
Difficult-to-Deal-With Deployables
Gorr’s Black Berserkers create additional threats that enemies have to manage while simultaneously dealing with Gorr himself. Leaving them alive gives Gorr more pressure, survivability, and mobility, but spending time destroying them can give Gorr opportunities to attack with his sword or reposition.
Strong Solo Carry Potential
Gorr has the tools to create his own opportunities without relying heavily on teammates to enable him. He can engage and disengage safely and effectively all on his own. Once he secures an elimination, additional Berserkers allow him to snowball his advantage and become increasingly difficult for the enemy team to contain.
High Self-Sustain
Between the Bonus Health provided by his Berserkers and the defensive options built into his kit, Gorr can survive extended fights surprisingly well. When his resources are managed properly, he can tank a significant amount of damage while continuing to his own close range attacks.
Weaknesses
Reliant on Berserker Management
A large portion of Gorr’s survivability, mobility, and offensive pressure comes from his Black Berserkers. Poor placement, running out of charges, overstacking (more than limit of 3), or allowing enemies to quickly destroy them can leave Gorr without the resources he needs to secure elims or escape alive.
Large Hurtbox
Gorr’s large character model makes him an easy target for enemy fire, especially when approaching through open sightlines. Without careful use of his mobility and and protected flank routes, ranged heroes can quickly burn through his health before he gets close enough to become threatening.
Feast-or-Famine Playstyle
Gorr becomes significantly stronger once he starts securing eliminations and spawns additional Berserkers, but struggling to get that first kill can leave his kit feeling much weaker. Failed engagements can quickly drain his available resources, forcing him to disengage and waste a ton of down time before he make another attempt.
Ability Tips
Primary Fire: All Black
Tips for All Black
Gorr's primary weapon and source of damage is the Necrosword. The rest of his kit revolves around enabling CQC with the mobility to dive into melee range, and the self-sustain needed to survive the brawls.
Always keep in mind that Gorr's ranged presence is inferior to nearly ever other hero. When you are not in melee range, focus on staying out of the enemies LoS and minimize damage taken. Use a combination of his phase dash, teleports, and flank routes available on each map to safely path to your target and launch a surprise attack.
- Outward slices deal 20 more damage compare to the 1st & 3rd inward slices for each 4-hit combo.
Secondary Fire: Necro-Power
Tips for Necro-Power
Think of Necro-Power as your go-to engagement and chase down tool. With it's short 6 second cooldown, Gorr can hit an enemy with his secondary, teleport, attack with his sword, and if the enemy tries to escape, Necro-Power will be soon to keep up your pursuit.
Anytime you plan to teleport to a Berserker spawned by Necro-Power, always wait a moment until just before the summon begins the uppercut animation. Doing so maximized burst damage, and enables your follow up combo to the knock up and slow down effects.
- During set up phases, use Necro-Power to farm a bit of ult charge from range.
- Only successful hits spawn a Berserker.
[E]: Black Berserker
Tips for Black Berserker
Gorr can place up to 3 Berserkers at a time with all abilities. In general, you should save one charge of Black Berserker to throw behind cover to TP and escape fights. One right-click + one SHIFT + one [E] = hitting max of three active Berserkers.
- Use the Practice Range to get used to the throw range of the Lob so you can accurately place Berserkers exactly where you need them. Especially important when throwing on ledges or bridges.
[F]: Shadow Harvest
Tips for Shadow Harvest
Gorr's best survival tool is the self-sustain and dodge from teleporting with to Berserkers with Shadow Harvest. Use these mid fight to stay on top of your target.
As hinted at in the Living Abyss tips above, your primary dive combo uses the invulnerable dash offensively. However, because it places a Berserker at the start of the dash, you can plan to start your Living Abyss behind cover, then Shadow Harvest TP back to its Berserker to quickly get-in, attack - get-out.
[SHIFT]: Living Abyss
Tips for Living Abyss
The most crucial element of getting high value out of each Living Abyss is balancing it's defensive and offensive uses. The phase dash is unique in its ability to be extremely lethal while also being Gorr's best escape tool. However, saving it for an escape notably nerfs his potential damage output and lethality. Therefore you need to plan other means of disengaging or surviving.
A great burst damage combo is to begin an attack sequence with Necro-Power tp tech (covered above), then activate Living Abyss after a couple swings or in reaction to dodge the enemies counterattack. The combined damage of two Frenzied Berserkers, AoE Necroverse damage, and your sword/scythe is a great way to secure eliminations on enemy heroes.
- The Berserker spawns where Gorr activated Living Abyss, not where he ends it. Max distance traveled during Abyss places Gorr outside TP range from the Berserker, so you'll need to walk back towards it if you plan on activating Shadow Harvest
- Alternative enage combo: activate Living Abyss behind cover, dumb cooldowns for attacks, then TP back to the spawned Berserker before it expires.
(Passive): Symbiote Swarm
Tips for Symbiote Swarm
- Every elim automatically summons a Berserker. Once you start securing kills, Gorr is extremely good at snowballing the to win the team fight.
- Berserkers have hero collision boxes meaning you can place them strategically to cut off paths or block doorways to trap the enemy.
Ultimate: Twilight of the Gods
Tips for Twilight of the Gods
When you plan to use your ultimate, save Berserker summoning ability. For the entire duration of Twilight of the Gods, all Berserkers are Frenzied and you'll want to keep them in the fight to maximize your self sustain and damage.
Remember you are not invincible and you should expect the enemy team to target you. Try to coordinate with you team or look around to make sure you either have a Vanguard to protect you or a Strategist to heal you before hard engaging with your Ultimate.
Team-Up: Ragnarök
Tips for Ragnarök
- With Hela's Enhancement, the Scythe has increased range on both the Team-Up activation and Shadow Harvest. The range increase is 2m which is a 25% increase
- Great aggressive Team-Up option to increase scythe uptime and increase both single target and AoE cleave damage.
Team-Up: Hive Mind
(Video coming soon)
Tips for Hive Mind
- Venom's Team-Up gives Gorr a deadly CC tool that pulls in targets on its way back to him. Ensure you stay lined up with your target because only the recall pulls. Especially good for combining with Sycthe attacks after displacing the enemy.
- Hive mind is an effective counter pick ability against enemies with good mobility and escape tools such as Invisible Woman using her super Jump.
Synergies
The best Team compositions for Gorr enable and empower a Brawl or Dive playstyle. However, because he has a good amount of self-sustain and agency, he can solo dive while the rest of his team lays down heavy poke pressure, or simple front-to-back attacks.
Gorr particularly benefits from having another mobile Vanguard or Duelist initiate a Dive with him. When multiple allies enter the enemy's backline at once, it becomes much easier to keep multiple Berserkers alive in the chaos. This also makes it easier for Gorr to secure the first elimination and begin snowballing additional Berserkers with his passive.
Example Team comp
- Vanguard: Venom, Magneto
- Duelists: Gorr, Black Cat
- Strategists: Mantis, Cloak & Dagger
Venom is an obvious choice due to their Enhanced Team-Up giving Hive Mind a slow effect, plus both heroes want to dive isolated targets and create chaos at close range. Magneto can hold down the frontline, assist Gorr with bubble shields to prolong the dive, and serves to protect your backline while the rest of the team is deep in enemy territory.
Black Cat is another powerful dive hero that demands low resources from her team. The pairing is extremely lethal, and very difficult to counter as neither hero has a simple counter-pick or way to eliminate them.
From Strategist Gorr ideally wants ranged healing and either a dps buff or enemy debuff. Mantis and C&D provide all of this, and together with a strong frontline Vanguard like Magneto, they have no trouble staying alive and active.
