Marvel RivalsMarvel Rivals Gambit Guide

In this Marvel Rivals Gambit guide, you’ll learn the fundamentals of his abilities, unique play styles, and fundamental tips.

Gambit Overview

The newest Strategist added in season 5 of Marvel rivals comes in with unbelievable offensive and defensive power.

Compared to the rest of the strategists gambits kit is quite a bit more complex and difficult to master. You'll need to be very aware of resource management and you also need to have a decent sense of tracking enemy cooldowns to get value out of your own.

His abilities have a good balance of close range and long range capabilities which gives him the flexibility to adapt to any situation and take on multiple positions and play styles.

Find out where Gambit ranks in our Marvel Rivals tier list.

TLDR

As

  • Focus on enabling ally attacks. Hearts and Spades Heal and Anti-heal can be shot deep into enemy territory to help a flanking teammate.
  • Be aggressive. Gambit's primary fire has a wide spread, so you're going to get more value at close to medium range. Don't be afraid to play up or on off angles. You can easily escape.
  • Peel for your fellow Strategists. Gambit's burst damage is superior to the rest of the support roster, making him a great protector.

Against

  • Gambit has to chose between defense and offense ability use. If you can force him to use healing by damaging his frontline, you can go aggro immediately after.
  • Wait for Gambit to Dash before Diving (He'll use it for healing, or to reposition). He gets two charges of his Dash so chasing him down is very difficult if he has both available.
  • If possible, run away during his ult and force Gambit's team to overextend. Once the ability ends, you can counter attack. Unless your team has a different Defensive ult, then you'll be able to out sustain his.

Strengths and Weaknesses Summary

  • Cleanse and Burst Heal
  • High Survivability
  • Carry Pick
  • Complex Kit
  • Resource Management is Crucial
  • Majority of Abilities are Very Short Range

Strengths and Weaknesses

Strengths

Cleanse and Burst Heal

Hearts cards enable Gambit to heal his team with huge bursts of health His Base Healing is also among the highest of all strategists so he'll have no problem keeping his team alive

High Survivability

Gambit has a knock back, good self-healing and even better mobility, all of which make him very difficult to kill. He's also dangerous to dive because he's just as lethal as any because at close range he's just as lethal as any DPS

Carry Pick

Out of all the strong strategists we already have in the game Gambit May very well come out on top in terms of his ability to be a playmaker. Between his burst healing, anti-heal, burst damage from combos, and really good mobility, there is nothing Gambit can't do.

Weaknesses

Complex Kit

The high power of his kit comes at the cost of it's difficulty and complexity. His abilities all have different ranges and wildly different use cases. Knowing when to heal, attack, prime cards, position close, far, or on an off angle, should you Dash to heal, to attack or to escape? With such a wide range of abilities it can all feel a bit overwhelming.

Resource Management is Crucial

Not only do you need to manage his ammo and cooldowns as every other hero but you also need to manage his Sleight of Hand stacks.

It may seem counterintuitive as well that priming a Heart or Spade card, consumes one stack and then actually using a follow-up ability consumes another stack.

So if you see on your screen you have one stack remaining you can only Prime and ability but you'll have to wait for an additional stack to refresh before you can actually use it.

Majority of Abilities are Very Short Range

Primary fire, secondary fire, Dash, purifying pick up, and bidding barrage are all all have very limited effective ranges. Gambit almost needs to position like he is a melee Strategist to ensure that he can also be at the aid of his team. Often this means he'll need to be positioned closer to the enemy team than most Strategists.

Ability Tips

Primary Fire: Kinetic Cards

Tips for Kinetic Cards

Great for Spam Damage

  • 99% of the time you should be spamming kinetic cards Non-Stop. You can charge Alt very quickly and although the range damage is more or less negligible all damage is good damage.

Main Healing Source

  • Try to rely on kinetic cards to keep your allies topped off and Alive. Only use the rest of your abilities when you are sure that kinetic cards are not pumping healing out fast enough to save your ally.

[E]: Healing Hearts (E - Bridge Boost / F - Purifying Pick-Up)

Bridge Boost

Purifying Pick-Up

Tips for Healing Hearts / Bridge Boost / Purifying Pick-Up

Bridge Boost

  • Never use on an isolated ally. Make sure they are within range of another teammate or yourself. If they are completely alone, only a single hit will heal for a measly 50 health.
  • When another ally is near by, it bounces around 6 times!

Purifying Pick-Up

  • Strongest defensive tool. The power of being able to cleanse literally every status effect in the game cannot be overstated.
  • Even stuns from ultimates like Doctor Strange's Eye of Agamotto or Venom's shields and anti-heal from his ultimate can be cleansed.

[F]: Purifying Pick-Up (E - Bidding Barrage / F - Explosive Trick)

Bidding Barrage

Explosive Trick

Tips for Purifying Pick-Up Bidding Barrage / Explosive Trick

Bidding Barrage

  • The knockback and the damage are equally useful.
  • The large AOE explosion makes his ability very easy to hit which also means it's great for countering high mobility flankers such as Black Panther and Daredevil

Explosive Trick

  • Anti-heal is still a rare ability in Marvel Rivals. As the only strategist with an anti-heal, Gambit player should actively be trying to save their sleight of hand stacks to inflict vulnerable enemies with anti-heal.
  • Take full advantage of the long range of Explosive Trick.
    • When you see one of your allies diving the enemy backline, try to get an angle to hit that same enemy with the anti-hill and your teammate is pretty much guaranteed to get the kill.

Secondary Fire: Bayou Bash

Tips for Bayou Bash

Ok in a Pinch

  • On its own Bayou bash is a bit underwhelming. However, the AoE is a decent size and you'll instantly heal yourself and allies plus damage enemies in the 5m radius.

Best Used for Big Easy Impact

  • Most of the time you should be pairing Bash with your Cajun Charge Dash, to perform Big Easy impact.
  • See Combo Below for the How to.

[SHIFT]: Cajun Charge

Tips for Cajun Charge

Base Charge

  • The base charge only travels a short distance and has a long 12 and a half second cool down. Therefore, it is almost always better to save buy you bashes to use as a follow-up to Cajun Charge.
  • When you would want to use standard Cajun charge is if you needed to use your bashes for healing and damage then you could dump both your Cajun dashes to escape to the high ground.

Big Easy Impact

  • As far as strategist movement abilities go Big Easy impact is one of the best. The damage and healing are both very good and can hit multiple targets.
  • Most of the time you should only need a single Big Easy impact to escape from enemies. Always save a second charge to save yourself in case you are being chased.
  • Looking down at the floor when charging into an enemy will help Gambit stay on top of them rather than go flying through them. Easier to land all 3 hits.

250 HP Combo

Gambit's Bread n' Butter Combo uses only 2 Card charges and quickly kills 250HP heroes.

  • Breaking Spades (activate just before engaging)
    • > Primary Fire > Big Easy Impact > Bidding Barrage > Primary Fire
    • (F > Left Click > SHIFT > Right Click > E > Left Click) on PC
    • Add additional Primary Fire, or use another Spade attack against higher HP targets.
  • Great to counter enemy flankers like Psylocke who only have 250HP.
  • Take the game into your own hands and assassinate the enemy Strategists.

Ultimate [Q]: Ragin' Royal Flush

Tips for Ragin' Royal Flush

Initiation Ult

  • Treat Gambit Alt as an initiation signal as a initiation tool that signals your team to go aggro and get some kills.
  • Yourself and every targeted ally are granted a burst of healing on activation, then a persisting speed boost, healing over time, a damaged buff and increased ult charge rate!
  • When you see an opportunity for your team to take the advantage, such as an enemy defensive ult ending, that's a great time to active Ragin' Royal Flush.

Decent Defensive Ult

  • Compared the a great defensive ult, such as Luna's that heals for 250HP /sec, Gambit's only heals for 75 HP /sec.
  • That's more than enough healing to sustain normal fights, but if the enemy team is using multiple offensive ultimate's, yours probably won't be able to keep your team alive.
  • However, the initial burst of healing plus movement speed boost can sometimes buy your team time to kite the enemies ultimate and trade multiple of their offense for just one of yours.

Team-up ability [Passive]: Explosive Entanglement

Tips for Explosive Entanglement

  • If you remember how strong Magneto's sword from the Scarlet Witch team up was then you'll automatically know that this team up is definitely worth pairing these two mutants together.
  • Magneto's Great Sword gives him a long range attack and insane burst damage. He can literally triple hit 250 HP Heroes to death in 2 seconds.

Synergies

Team Comp Synergies

In 2-2-2, Gambit wants his other Strategist to be able to keep themselves alive so he can play off angles and focus on aggression. Although his primary fire seems like Gambit would be a short range brawl Hero, his Hearts, Spades and Dash are best used to assist Dive Heroes.

When playing in a triple support comp, Gambit should be treated as a hybrid DPS and focus on applying anti-heal and dealing damage. He can always save one Heart card to cleanse when the enemy comes with a big status effect ability, but outside of this scenario, his offensive pressure is better.

Team Comp Example

  • Vanguards: Emma Frost, Venom
  • Duelists: Daredevil, Psylocke
  • Strategists: Gambit, Jeff the Land Shark
