Marvel Rivals Marvel Rivals Cyclops Character Guide

In this Marvel Rivals Cyclops guide, you’ll learn the fundamentals of his abilities, unique play styles, and fundamental tips.

Cyclops Overview

"To me, my X-Men!" Cyclops joins the Marvel Rivals Roster on June 12th 2026!

He is a hitscan hero with great range, minimal falloff damage, and AoE abilities. Optic Blast primary fire rivals Hela and Phoenix in ranged lethality. Even up to around 40m, Cyclops can two-tap 300 HP heroes with two primary fire headshots.

When his ultimate is fully charged, he can unleash the full power of the punch dimension with Ruby Rage. When combined with stuns or mobility lockouts, this ability is a team-wiping machine!

Success with Cyclops will come from mechanical mastery to land consistent headshots, outplaying your opponents with Propulsion Burst's movement, and team play to earn fight wins with his ultimate.

,

TLDR

As

  • Focus on midrange positioning where Cyclops has the advantage against short-range heroes, but can still utilize his cooldowns.
  • Propulsion Burst [SHIFT], the most important ability to use wisely. After using it, you will be vulnerable to enemy dives for 12 whole seconds. Always reposition yourself near allies and away from enemies.
  • Always try to combo his ultimate with a teammate's stun or movement lockout ability (e.g. Groot/Thing/Strange ults, Black Cat's Mento-Fish, etc)

Against

  • Cyclops' most consistent value comes from his beam ricochets. Whenever possible, position yourself with some walls or distance between you and your teammates to minimize linked abilities.
  • Always be aware of Clyclops positioning becuase his extremely high burst damage can quickly KO you even from full health. Keep an eye on walls he'll jump over, and flank angles he'll shoot from.
  • If you didn't see him use Ruby Rage in the last minute, expect it to come soon. Save a mobility or invulnerable ability to escape or protect your team from the 2nd explosion of his ultimate.

Strengths and Weaknesses Summary

  • Long-range lethality
  • Strong against brawl and triple Strategist
  • Burst mobility
  • All abilities have long cooldowns
  • AoE abilities are weak against isolated enemies
  • Easy for most heroes to evade the final burst of his ultimate

Ability Tips

Primary Fire: Optic Blast

DESCRIPTION

Fire a quick burst of kinetic force forward. Hitting enemies accelerates Ricochet Force charge rate

KEY

Left-Click

TICK RATE

DAMAGE PER TICK

22

Tips for Optic Blast

  • Great ranged damage ability. Optic Blast has quicker ttk than Phoenix or Hela's primary fire at mid-range since it can two-tap critical hits at over 30m distance. At longer ranges, the damage is still very respectable as well.
  • Focus on Optic Blast against isolated enemies, because its single-target damage is much higher than its other abilities.

Secondary Fire: Concussive Beam

DESCRIPTION

Continuously fire a powerful beam that can refract between enemies and the environment. Hitting enemies accelerates Ricochet Force charge rate

KEY

Right-Click

Tips for Concussive Beam

  • Although not listed in the official stats, the base range of the concussive beam is just over 20m.
    • 22m is the range of the beam, and each refraction gains its own ~22m range as well.
    • Therefore, you can extend the effective range by first refracting the Beam off the environment or a closer target. (Damage and refraction falloff kick in significantly)
  • Save Beam resource until after you've used Richocet Force so you can benefit from the increased cooldown refresh rate.

[SHIFT]: Propulsion Burst

DESCRIPTION

Fire a propulsion beam to push yourself and the target backward, applying a Slow effect to the enemy

KEY

SHIFT

COOLDOWN

12s

Tips for Propulsion Burst

  • Primarily treat Propulsion Burst as your mobility tool. Use it to quickly disengage from fights, evade enemy attacks, or create space between melee enemies and Cyclops.
    • Use a combination of aiming to move backward and left/right movement input to precisely control your trajectory.
  • Hold the ability button to extend the duration of Propulsion.
    • Quick or long use does not change the 12s cooldown.
  • Decent knockback but not massive. Only expect environmental KOs if the enemy is already very close to the ledge

[E]: Ricochet Force

DESCRIPTION

Fire a beam that can diffract and track nearby enemies after hitting terrain. Upon use, Cyclops gains Bonus Health

KEY

E

ENVIRONMENT RICOCHET DAMAGE FALLOFF

65%

Tips for Ricochet Force

  • Direct hits deal 100%, then each ricochet has falloff damage, including bounces off the environment and heroes.
  • Best used against grouped-up teams, at choke points, and on the objective.
  • Excellent final blow tool for finishing off low HP enemies trying to escape. As long as you can hit the ground or another enemy near them, the ricochet will give you an easy hit.

[F]: Optic Ascent

DESCRIPTION

Fire a propulsion beam directly downward to push yourself up and knock back hit enemies, applying a Slow effect to them

KEY

F

COOLDOWN

12s

Tips for Optic Ascent

  • Whenever possible, use Optic Ascent as your first staging and repositing ability so that you can save the higher-value Propulsion Burst for quick movement mid-fight.
  • Great counter against melee and short-ranged enemies because Cyclops can boost up to high ground, and apply a slow debuff to the enemy pursuer, which makes their chase or disengage less effective.
    • Don't overly focus on applying slow because you have to be right on top of the enemy to hit them with the Ascent beam, which should only happen if you were caught by surprise or have bad positioning.

(Passive) Kinetic Hover

DESCRIPTION

Enter a slow-fall state while firing Concussive Beam mid-air

KEY

Passive

Tips for Kinetic Hover

  • The main scenario you can take advantage of the slow-fall is to gain LoS over walls and barriers to secure finishing blows against low HP or retreating enemies.
  • Also useful for traversing the maps or returning from spawn.
    • Many maps have rollout paths that Cyclops can use by combining Hover with Ascent and Concussive Beam.

(Ultimate): Ruby Rage

DESCRIPTION

Remove visor and fire a powerful sweeping beam forward. The blast leaves behind volatile excess energy that erupts, dealing massive secondary explosive damage

KEY

Q

ENERGY COST

3700

Tips for Ruby Rage

  • The combined damage of hitting an enemy with both spell fields of the ult is 150 base damage +60% of the target's max HP.
    • What this means: Even tanky Duelists like Blade at 350 HP are KO'd by Ruby Rage, but all Vanguards will require at least one additional bodyshot to KO.
  • Always combo.
    • If you use Ruby Rage raw against a group of enemies, most of them will walk out, or use a movement ability to escape. Combo with stuns like Groot's ultimate, or movement-locking abilities like Black Cat's Mento-Fish to ensure the enemies cannot escape your deadly beam!

(Team-Up Ability): Red Adamantium

DESCRIPTION

Cyclops supercharges Wolverine's claws, extending his attack range. While active, Wolverine's Vicious Rampage is replaced with Kinetic Claws, granting him a brief forward lunge that unleashes a flurry of slashes around him
