Marvel RivalsMarvel Rivals Angela Character Guide

In this Marvel Rivals Angela guide, you’ll learn the fundamentals of her abilities, unique play styles, and fundamental tips.

Angela Overview

One of the highest demands from the community since the inception of Marvel Rivals is finally here: We have a flying Vanguard! Angela soared into the Marvel Rivals Roster on September 12th.

Three different crowd control abilities enable Angela to excel at manipulating enemies positioning. Assassin's Charge is basically a flying Feral Leap (Wolverine) and can quickly isolate an enemy from the rest of their team.

High mobility along with the CC make her incredibly good at a snatch & grab playstyle where she focuses on using her cooldown cycle to quickly out one enemy at a time.

She excels on maps with many ledges. However, maps that limit her mobility and ability to displace with environmental kills are proving challenging for her.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Strengths

Only Flying Vanguard

Marvel Rivals being filled with so many Duelist and Strategist fliers has been one of the most frustrating aspects of playing Vanguard. Finally, there is a Vanguard who can take over the skies. Angela can easily skewer an enemy flier out of the sky and send them into her own team for the kill.

Powerful Crowd Control

Assassin's Charge can grab two enemies at once. When the ability ends, the enemy's momentum carries for knockback and she can use Spear of Ichors for even more knockback! Environmental KOs have never been easier. Her Ultimate also teathers and slows the enemies.

Isolates Enemies

While other heroes are good at pouncing on enemies out of positioned or who are already isolate, no one can forcibly isolate and enemy better than Angela. Snatch and fly away with an enemy Strategist and enjoy the free kill.

Weaknesses

Small Health Pool

Compared to the rest of the tanky Vanguards, Angela has low HP and low survivability. With only 550 base health, you'll need to focus on being evasive to stay alive. She does gain Bonus Health from dealing damage during Aces of Ichors, but that requires her to be right in the enemies face and locks her out of using mobility abilites.

Terrible at Poking

A charged Spear of Ichors has to be refueled by either flying, grabbing an enemy with Assassin's Charge, or absorbing damage with Shielded Stance. Without full charge, she doesn't knockback and deals minimal damage. Spamming primary fire while flying is ineffective and makes her terrible at poking.

Low Damage Output

Angela's kit is mostly focused on mobility and CC. Having a resource-based primary fire limits Angela's damage potential. She has good damage with Axes of Ichors and during her ult, but these are infrequent abilities. Don't be surprised to see that your total damage at the end of a match is the lowest on the team.

Ability Tips

Primary Fire: Spear of Ichors

DESCRIPTION

Lunge forward with your spear, dealing damage that increases with Attack Charge. At full charge, Spear of Ichor can deal more damage and launch up enemies.

Tips for Spears of Ichors

Attack Charge

  • Attack Charge is built while flying (SHIFT), grabbing enemies with Assassin's Charge, and by blocking damage with her shield.
  • You can finish off low health enemies by spamming zero charge Spears. Otherwise, your DPS is higher by waiting for full charge.
  • Once at full change, save for a hard engage where you fly in, or can follow up with Axes. As a poke tool, it's power is poor.

Resource only used on hit

  • Missing the enemy will not use your Attack charge

Uncharged is a melee

  • Although the Spears appear to be a ranged attack, think of them as a knife stab rather than a projectile.

Alternate Primary Fire: Axes of Ichors

DESCRIPTION

Alternate powerful strikes forward with twin axes, dealing increased damage as Attack Charge grows. The fourth strike propels you forward in a swift dash.

Tips for Axes of Ichors

Manage Bonus Health

  • As your attacking is within the glowing AoE of the slam, Angela will be constantly generating Bonus Health.
  • Use Bonus Health to tank damage and overwhelm your target. Be sure to keep an eye on HP because you must balance damage taken and self-healing.

Attack Charge

  • Axe swings use Attack Charge resource to deal increased damage. Try to go in with full charge, then watch for depletion to better estimate how many more swings it will take to KO and enemy.

Don't 1v6

  • It will feel tempting to slam in and start swinging on the entire enemy team. Demonstrate restraint and only go in when you have even numbers, or a numbers advantage.

Secondary Fire: Shielded Stance

DESCRIPTION

Transform Ichors into a shield, gaining Attack Charge when absorbing damage.

Cooldown

2s

Tips for Shielded Stance

Fly and Block

  • Similar to Captain America running around with his shield up, the key to Angela's survival is combining movement and damage mitigation. Hold up your shield while zooming around to safely engage or escape.

Block Stuns

  • Because Angela will spend so much time diving backlines, the enemy will be saving CC to use against her. Therefore, a successful Angela player must track and purposely try to block all crowd control and stuns that would shut down her attack.

[E] (While Flying): Divine Judgement

DESCRIPTION

Dive downward, switch to twin axes and infuse the ground with Ichors to create a Divine Judgement Zone upon impact. Within the zone, gain enhanced Speed and attacks grant Bonus Health to self and nearby allies.

Tips for Divine Judgement

Coordinate with allies

  • The best uses of Divine Judgement enable team play and help your allies survive a coordinated dive.
  • While in the AoE auroa left behind by Divine Judgement, Angela and all allies will be generating Bonus Health.
  • Before activating Divine judgment, check teammate positioning and wait for a couple of allies to be near enough to assist you.

Self Movement Lock

  • After using Divine Judgement, Angela cannot use any other mobility abilities other than Wingblade Ascent.

[E] (While Axe Wielding): Wingblade Ascent

DESCRIPTION

Take to the skies, switching back to Spear of Ichors.

Tips for Wingblade Ascent

Stay Alive

  • Overstaying your welcome while swinging the axes is a quick way to die.
  • Use Wingblade Ascent [E] to fly away with around 300 remaining to increase chances of escaping alive.

[SHIFT]: Assassin's Charge

DESCRIPTION

Enter an accelerated dash state, becoming immune to knock-back and launch-up. Enemies struck head-on are carried through the air for a short distance.

Tips for Assassin's Charge

Mobility Tool

  • Angela flies for longer when she doesn't have an enemy skewed. Good for traversing the Map or escaping.

Assassin's Charge faq

  • Grab 2 enemies Max
  • 3-second cooldown plus resource meter.
  • No wall slam mechanic
  • Carrying enemies refills Attack Charge resource at a greatly increased rate.

Stack Knockbacks

  • The best way to get environmental KOs or displace enemies is to carry them max distance, then hit them with a full-charged primary fire.

Ultimate [Q]: Heven's Retribution

DESCRIPTION

Separate nearby enemies' Souls from their bodies. Damage dealt to these Souls is transferred to their physical bodies

KEY

Tips for Heven's Retribution

Heven's Retribution faq

  • Q to throw, Q again to leap to staff
  • Tethers pull back enemies back in, but will break at max distance
  • Tethered enemies cannot use any mobility abilities.
  • Sheilds block activation LoS, but don't eat the projectile itself. Cap cannot reflect.
  • Even Tethers CC immune enemies!
  • Diamond Form Emma Frost, Punisher Ult, The Thing Charge and other CC immune heroes can still get tethered.

Watch for hard counters

  • Phoenix's ult instantly destroys Angela's deployable ult.
  • Mag Ult will absorb your ult and has enough time to be used reactively.

(Passive): Seraphic Soar

DESCRIPTION

Glide freely through the air. Continuous flying builds Attack Charge.

KEY

Passive

Tips for Seraphic Soar

Permafly

  • Like Iron Man, Angela can fly for an infinite duration.
  • Only ground yourself when you need to melee-brawl the enemy with your axes. Otherwise, stay in the sky.
  • Anytime you Attack Charge resource is slow, fly around behind cover to refill.

Team-up ability (Passive): Celestial Command

DESCRIPTION

Angela shares fragments of her Ichors with Thor, empowering him to hurl a Thunder Spear that restores Thorforce for each enemy struck. Afterward, Thor can leap to the spear's explosion point, dealing a second wave of damage to all enemies within range.

KEY

Passive

Team-Up Bonus

As the Team-Up Anchor, Angela gains 100 Health.

Tips for Celestial Command

Passive ability for Angela, so she doesn't need to do anything. She has ok synergy with Thor. Either they need to hard engage every fight for a quick and decisive win, or a frontline Duelist or third tank.

Synergies

Team Comp Synergies

Team comps built around Angela enable her high mobility playstyle. Allies either assist Angela directly with their own ability to keep up with her speed and movement, or indirectly by pulling enemies away from her. Because she has the lowest Vanguard HP, she relies on teammates to sustain her, and to pull enemy attention off of her. Assassin's Charge is incredible for displacing enemies away from the rest of their team. Heroes who can follow up on the isolation for a quick assassination are the best offensive pairings with Angela.

Team Comp Example

  • Vanguards: Angela, Magneto
  • Duelists: Magik, Phoenix
  • Strategists: Cloak & Dagger, Luna Snow
