Best Supports to Climb With in LoL Season 26

The Support role remains one of the strongest roles in the game, and after some quality of life changes to the role, champion buffs and nerfs, item changes and more, the meta has shifted for us Support players. Champions who dominated last season are not necessarily performing as well as they once were.

In this article, I will be discussing five of the strongest and best Supports you can play in the newest season of LoL, which will help you climb quickly and help you achieve a higher rank at the start of the new season. If you pick one of these champions, dominate your lane, and help your allies, you will see yourself winning more games and climbing very fast.

Before we begin, the data in this article is from our Mobalytics tier list. It is also using Platinum+, global and mid-patch data. While some of these champions might not be statistically the best, they’re very strong overall, and our list is in no order...

1. Braum

Right now, there are so many good Supports in League of Legends. Tanks, squishy mages and utility champions are some of the most popular right now, and these champions all have one thing in common: they struggle vs Braum. Braum currently has a 53% win rate on patch 16.1, making him one of the stronger Supports in the current meta.

He is very good vs utility and tanks as he can turn around any tank engage with his basic attacks and CC them in return, whereas he can use his Q on the squishy utility champion, chip them and then all-in them.

Braum has benefited from the recent item changes, most notably the Bandlepipes item, which he can easily proc in a fight with any one of his abilities. This tanky item increases his defensive stats, making him a bigger threat in lane and team fights.

2. Thresh

While quite hard to play, Thresh rewards practice and experience. A skilled Thresh player can take over games by picking off key targets and executing ambushes on the enemy team. A well-timed Q can make or break a lane, and if you can blow the enemies' Flash, they have to play a lot safer.

Thresh is strong at those level 2 all-ins, so don’t be afraid to go for an early hook on the enemy. If you get the lead in lane, you can also team up with your Jungler to execute ganks across the map.

Thresh is extremely impactful when played well. His playmaking ability makes him a constant threat in the lane and around the map. Currently, Thresh has a 51.3% win rate on patch 16.1

3. Sona

Sona is one of the simplest Support champions to pick in League of Legends, which is great for players who want to learn the role or do not have much time to master and practice harder champions.

She provides excellent healing and sustain in lane, allowing her ADC to survive poke-heavy matchups, and recover a lot of health after small trades with the enemy. After level 6, her ultimate is very effective at both peeling for carries and setting up picks.

Sona is a very strong late-game champion, with incredible scaling and healing. She is capable of providing a lot of healing in team fights to keep her teammates alive, which will make the difference between success and failure. This is one of the many reasons Sona has a 53.8% win rate on patch 16.1!

4. Milio

Milio is a relatively new Support, compared to some of our other recommendations, and ever since his release, he has been a versatile enchanter Support. He has great synergy with the majority of the S-Tier ADCs right now, which has helped him maintain a 52.5% win rate on patch 16.1.

Milio is very useful in team fights, thanks to his Ultimate, his W and his E, which provides his carries with a lot of extra protection and utility. These abilities will keep his allies alive for long enough to dish out extra damage. Furthermore, his W is great on ADCs as it increases their auto-attack range, allowing them to either close the gap and chase the enemy down or reposition.

Milio also has excellent disengage with his Q, stopping all-ins and preventing enemy divers from reaching his team. Landing a good Q on an enemy and interrupting the all-in could be the difference between life and death in a fight.

5. Leona

Leona has been a fantastic Support for many seasons now, and she is a fan favourite among players who love to play tanks and are aggressive. Leona has a 50.9% win rate on patch 16.1, and she is able to exploit most lanes and matchups!

She is really strong at level 1 and can often cheese the enemy. If she doesn’t, she can always go for that level 2 or 3 all-in, where her all-in potential is very high. At level 6, Leona becomes even more dangerous, as a good Leona player will constantly look for picks using her ultimate whenever it is available.

However, Leona does struggle against ranged champions, so avoiding poke is crucial when playing her, as if you run out of HP, you’ll never be able to engage. Additionally, her ADC must understand wave management to be successful in the lane. If the ADC is constantly pushing, Leo will struggle to engage.

Final Thoughts

That's about it for this guide. Remember that while these champions might be great, you should always pick a champion you enjoy and are good at, rather than one we just say is strong. If you're looking for guides for any of the other roles, head over to our guides page!
