Overview
Changes for Classic
- The abilities are completely different. Read the descriptions.
How to Play
Early on, play safe and avoid overextending for farm, since you’re squishy and immobile. Use your E on the minion wave to pick up farm and XP, but limit its use early, since you don’t want to push too much. Ideally, you’ll keep the wave closer to your side of the map.
Stack your abilities on the minion wave first, then look to trade with the enemy to get the best shield possible and make trading more favourable. However, since you'll be facing AD champions, it’s important not to let them poke you down with basic attacks before you can fight.
Pre-6, you don’t do too much in lane outside of picking up CS and XP, as you come online when your Ultimate is available and you have your first item. Look to poke the enemy down with your E if possible, or go for short, bursty trades before committing your Ultimate with the all-in.
Outside the laning phase, stick with your team and avoid overextending, since you don't have modern defensive tools or your Ultimate to protect you from all-ins. Use your Ultimate on a high-value target to get the most out of the enemy's kit; taking out a key target with it and using it against the enemy team comp is a great way to win a fight or take objectives.
Runes Explained
Mordekaiser is an AP champion, so your best bet is to take AP Magic Pen Marks, as this makes your abilities hurt a lot more and will make it easier to shred tanks when you cast your Ultimate. You should take Armor Seals because you will face mostly AD champions in the bottom lane, and this extra armor early will help to keep you alive. Magic Resistance Glyphs are good because they help against AP champions on the enemy team. Mixed defensive stats are crucial on most champions in LoL Classic.
Finally, round out your Rune Page with AP Quints for extra AP, which will help with poking, farming, and everything on Mordekaiser.
Masteries Explained
As Mordekaiser, you’ll need to take 21-9-0 as your core Mastery Tree. Opting for the Offensive Tree is crucial because it gives you AP, Magic Pen, and cooldown reduction, which ultimately makes it easier for Mordekaiser to get kills and snowball.
You need to take the Defense Tree as your second page. As we discussed previously, Mordekaiser is squishy and easy to kill, and by taking the Defense Tree, you’re going to protect yourself from incoming damage.
