Overview
Changes for Classic
Feast (R) stacks max 6 times, is lost on kill but can be stacked on anything
Vorpal Spikes (E) toggles the spikes that go through players
How to Play
Cho'Gath is a safe and reliable top laner who excels at farming and scaling into a powerful frontline. Max Vorpal Spikes (E) first, as it gives you strong trading, reliable wave clear, and consistent poke whenever you land a Rupture (Q).
Sustain through lane with your Carnivore passive, and look to stack Feast (R) whenever possible to steadily increase your Health. As the game progresses, you'll become incredibly difficult to bring down while providing excellent crowd control and frontline presence for your team.
Runes Explained
Cho'Gath doesn't rely heavily on Attack Damage or Ability Power, so your rune choices should focus on utility and survivability instead. Take Attack Speed Marks to make last hitting easier and to get more value from your Vorpal Spikes.
For Seals and Glyphs, prioritize Armor and Magic Resist to help you through the laning phase and teamfights. Finally, Movement Speed Quintessences are the ideal choice, allowing you to stick to enemies more easily and get into range to finish them off with your ultimate.
Masteries Explained
When playing
Cho'Gath in the top lane, you should prioritize the Defense tree to make the most of his naturally tanky kit. The bonus Armor, Magic Resist, Health, and damage reduction help you survive the laning phase, win extended trades, and become a powerful frontline as the game progresses. For your secondary tree, invest your remaining points into Offense.
The extra Ability Power and Magic Penetration increase the damage of your abilities, giving you stronger trades, better wave clear, and more threat against enemy champions throughout the game.
