Smolder’s
E is very versatile and can be used to get over walls or escape ganks. This could be useful if you’re running away from the enemy Jungler in lane.
Due to his range, he can do really well against melee champions as he can poke and abuse them whenever they walk up to farm.
Smolder has great scaling thanks to his
Q. The earlier he gets his upgrades, the better!
Smolder is vulnerable to hard CC, engage and all-in. You’re very vulnerable when your
E is down, and if you’re not careful, you can get all-in’d or hit by your lane opponent and die quickly.
Your scaling depends on how good you are at stacking your
Q / Passive. If you cannot stack it quickly, then you will be much weaker in the mid/late game.
Smolder, like many carry ADCs who are played in alternative roles, is weak when he is behind and it will be hard for him to get back into the game.
0 - 15 min
Get level 2 first and look for a favourable trade with the enemy. Gaining an early health advantage will help you out.
Focus on farming and looking for aggressive plays once the enemy uses an ability. Play around their abilities and look to abuse their cooldowns with your early game damage.
Stay in your lane after destroying the first tower. Keep applying pressure and pushing. Make sure you have vision nearby and back away if you see the enemy Jungler coming.
15 - 25 min
Focus on farming and getting a ton of gold and minions. This will help you get your
Q upgrade faster.
When no team fights are happening, make sure you’re split pushing and applying pressure. Just make sure you’re warding if you’re away from your team.
If team fighting, make sure you stand towards the backside of your team so you can dish out damage while remaining relatively safe.
25+ min
Stick with your team and do not walk (or fly) too far away from them at any time.
Make sure you’re still picking up minions to earn gold and get your final empowerment.
Play towards the back of your team, next to the ADC and Support to increase your chances of dealing tons of damage.
Your first power spike is at level 3 where you unlock all 3 of your basic abilities. But, you’ll find your strongest at level 4 with 2 points in your first ability.
At level 6, you’ll spike once again as you have your Ultimate
R which will help in turning fights around.
Another spike in the very early game is when you get your first component item as it will help you trade with the enemy.
Smolder will max out his first ability at level 9, which is usually his
Q. His damage output will be quite high in trades.
Furthermore, the more ahead he gets early on, the faster his
Q upgrades will be. He should be able to get well-into maxing out his upgrades during the mid-game.
At level 11, Smolder will put his second point in his Ultimate
R, which will enhance his damage output further.
In the late game, you’ll put a third point in your Ultimate
R. Your Ultimate’s
R damage output in fights and skirmishes will be quite high.
Similarly, you would’ve picked up multiple items in the late game, so your damage output should be quite high.
Finally, you would’ve fully upgraded your
Q in the earlier parts of the late game (even if you’re slow). So your
Q damage will be quite good in the late game when combined with your items.
