Laning Against Maokai

Laning Against Maokai

Maokai will be looking to gank often in the early game (which he can do thanks to his Twisted AdvanceW). Place vision around his jungle entrances to spot him leaving his jungle.

If you know Maokai has been on the same side of the map, watch out for hidden Saplings Sapling TossE placed inside bushes. Additionally, be careful when invading as he may have thrown some inside the bushes near his jungle entrances.

Maokai cannot solo the Dragon or Rift Herald easily on his own. Try to secure it before he gets the chance to gank a nearby lane and take it with their help.

Strategy VS Maokai

Strategy VS Maokai

Avoid fighting in the jungle as that will allow Maokai to get a good Ultimate Nature's GraspR off. Additionally, avoid fighting around neutral objectives like the Dragon or Baron too.

When sieging, make sure no one on your team is too far forward as Maokai can isolate them and catch them out of position with his Twisted AdvanceW.

As it might be hard for Maokai to team fight, he may try to flank from the side to make it easier to get on to the enemy. He may also use his Ultimate Nature's GraspR from the side to CC your whole team. Ward the flanks so you can spot him before he initiates.

Maokai Power Spikes

Maokai Power Spikes

Maokai will be looking to gank as often as possible as he can gank lanes pretty easily with his Twisted AdvanceW.

Maokai is good in team fights as his Ultimate Nature's GraspR has a large area of effect. Make sure you split up or disengage as soon as you see him so he is unable to utilise this ability.

Once he completes his first item, Maokai will be really difficult to duel as he will be really tanky.
