Class Picking Guide And Breakdown - Witchfire

Overview

There are 6 playable classes to choose from in Witchfire, all of which consist of unique starting items, resulting in a different playstyle. You can't swap classes without starting a new game, so it's important that you make the right choice! In this guide we'll give a short description of each one, making your time far easier when picking!

An important piece of information to keep in mind is that classes in Witchfire aren't necessarily classes by the standard identity most games would give them. Rather, the classes in Witchfire are more akin to starting loadouts in Dark Souls.

For example, no weapon or spell on a class in the game is actually unique. All items can (and will) be stumbled across at some point in your game provided you play enough of it. With this knowledge in mind, treat your choice as more of a chosen direction you'd like a boost in when starting out.

All Classes

Butcher - Aggressive Gunslinger

"Strong, Hale, and blessed with swift recovery. Countless combats have slain his fear, which lesser men mistake for wrath and rashness."

Playstyle Recommendation: Solid skill spread for general gun gameplay. This is what most people would eye as the "starter class", and it's not a pick you can truly go wrong with. The associated Fetish allows for an easier time when starting out.

Starting Level: 6

Starting Gear:

  • Midas (AR): Heats bullets, boosting damage or igniting enemies.
  • Hunger (Hand Cannon): Rewards perfect aim with increasingly potent bullets.
  • Bittersweet Nightshade (Fetish): Any damage taken makes the fetish release a powerful shockwave.

Starting Stats:

  • Flesh - 14
  • Witchery - 6
  • Mind - 13
  • Arsenal - 8
  • Blood - 14
  • Faith - 10

Hunter - Well Balanced Marksman

"A Cunning fighter, whose hands are prepared for battle and whose fingers are trained for war. No gun is a stranger to his grip."

Playstyle Recommendation: For players looking at a more tactical approach at first. The Ricochet AR is highly regarded amongst veteran players as one of the best weapons in the game, but beginners may find it slightly difficult to use if aiming isn't their strong suit.

Starting Level: 6

Starting Gear:

  • Ricochet (AR): Bullets ricochet among marked enemies.
  • Hunger (Hand Cannon): Rewards perfect aim with increasingly potent bullets.
  • Painted Tooth (Relic): Critical shots on full health enemies ignite them.

Starting Stats:

  • Flesh - 9
  • Witchery - 8
  • Mind - 12
  • Arsenal - 11
  • Blood - 16
  • Faith - 9

Slayer - Aggressive Spellcaster

"Once a practitioner of the black arts himself, he seeks the fear in his enemies' eyes... With the speed to reach them, and the knowledge to dispatch them."

Playstyle Recommendation: This class starts with a boost in Witchery, which can be great for progression later on with your Rosary unlocks. Spells aren't the safest choice to lock early on if you've never played the game, as the recharging of them is tied mainly to enemy kills, so the chances of getting a lot of playtime with them as a new player can be quite a disappointing reality as opposed to what your expectation might be for spell gameplay.

Starting Level: 6

Starting Gear:

  • Cricket (Pistol): Dash after a kill reloads and boosts the gun.
  • Hunger (Hand Cannon): Rewards perfect aim with increasingly potent bullets.
  • Lightning Bolt (Light Spell): A lightning bolt that knocks back and shocks enemies.

Starting Stats:

  • Flesh - 13
  • Witchery - 15
  • Mind - 8
  • Arsenal - 7
  • Blood - 12
  • Faith - 10

Shadow - Well Balanced Strategist

"A man with slow breaths and steady hands, who prefers to watch his enemies through a scope."

Playstyle Recommendation: The rifle is solid to start off with, and perhaps the biggest recommendation here. It will likely have you adopt a slightly slower playstyle due to how bolt-actions play as a whole, but most players will find themselves taking a liking to Shadow for that alone, as opposed to the faster playstyle of Assault Rifles.

Starting Level: 6

Starting Gear:

  • All-Seeing Eye (Bolt Action Rifle): Critical hits hurt all enemies inside the all-seeing eye.
  • Hunger (Hand Cannon): Rewards perfect aim with increasingly potent bullets.
  • Shockwave (Light Spell): A shockwave that stuns nearby Minor Enemies and exhausted Major Enemies.

Starting Stats:

  • Flesh - 8
  • Witchery - 13
  • Mind - 11
  • Arsenal - 13
  • Blood - 8
  • Faith - 12

Saint - Jack Of All Trades

"Surely, this man was favored by God."

Playstyle Recommendation: By far the most complicated starting loadout, but absolutely the strongest. The Demonic Crossbow is one of the strongest weapons in the game and can clear out multiple enemies with ease, and the Ice Sphere spell is extremely powerful for protection and insta-freezing enemies. If you can handle the steep learning curve, Saint is my personal favorite starter class.

Starting Level: 1

Starting Gear:

  • All-Seeing Eye (Bolt Action Rifle): Critical hits hurt all enemies inside the all-seeing eye.
  • Hunger (Hand Cannon): Rewards perfect aim with increasingly potent bullets.
  • Ice Sphere (Heavy Spell): Conjures an ice sphere that protects the caster from damage and freezes any enemy that gets inside it.
  • Vulture (Crossbow): Fires a difficult to satiate arrow that actively seeks the next target after wounding one.
  • Book Of Serpents (Relic): A powerful talisman as well as a grimoire. Anyone who hurts its owner is cursed with Decay.

Starting Stats:

  • Flesh - 9
  • Witchery - 9
  • Mind - 9
  • Arsenal - 9
  • Blood - 9
  • Faith - 15

Penitent - Not Beginner Friendly

"A damned soul, burdened by sin and bound for darkness."

Playstyle Recommendation: This is the Dark Souls equivalent of starting naked. It has the base pistol, low stats, and begins at level 1. Only really recommended for people looking to do zero to hero runs. Outside of that, pick something else if it's your first time jumping in.

Starting Level: 1

Starting Gear:

  • Hunger (Hand Cannon): Rewards perfect aim with increasingly potent bullets.

Starting Stats:

  • Flesh - 9
  • Witchery - 9
  • Mind - 9
  • Arsenal - 15
  • Blood - 9
  • Faith - 9
