How to Get the Naval Officer Armor in Crimson Desert Charting the Unknown

Overview

To get the Naval Officer Armor in Crimson Desert’s Charting the Unknown DLC, defeat Rohan Cooper during the Cave of Sorrow faction quest. The matching Naval Officer’s Hat is found separately on Samora Island, near the place where you return the ancient relic.

Together, these pieces create a pirate outfit with useful bonuses for bow builds. Each has an innate 20% chance not to consume arrows, leaving their Abyss Gear slots available for additional effects.

Reaching the ghost officer takes some preparation, and visiting his cave too early will leave you without a fight. If you have not started exploring the ocean, our Crimson Desert ship guide explains how to unlock your first vessel.

Complete A Wider World and Mistbound Sea

Start by completing all six parts of A Wider World, the introductory Greymane questline for sailing and ocean exploration.

Continue the ocean quests until you reach Mistbound Sea, which involves recovering a stolen relic and confronting Leviakan. Work through the full chain:

  • The Stolen Relic
  • Ancient Shrine
  • Catastrophe of Ancient Times
  • The Stilled Sea

Leviakan is primarily a puzzle encounter, so progressing depends on resolving its mechanics. Finish the follow-up objectives as well, rather than stopping immediately after the encounter.

This part of the ocean storyline also brings you close to the matching hat, making it a useful first step towards collecting both pieces.

Where to Find the Naval Officer Hat

The Naval Officer’s Hat is lying on a hill on Samora Island, close to where you place the retrieved ancient relic after the Leviakan encounter.

From the relic placement spot, climb the small rise immediately beside it and search the ground near the top. The hat is a loose pickup, so you do not need to find or open a chest.

It comes at refinement level four and has an innate 20% chance not to consume arrows, alongside its Abyss Gear slot. Pick up and read the nearby note as well, which provides information about the officer.

Collecting the hat and reading the note may not be enough to activate the ghost encounter. If Cave of Sorrow remains inactive, continue with the island quests below.

For other equipment to collect while exploring the ocean, our hidden weapons and gear guide covers more island and underwater rewards.

Complete the Satyros Island Quests

If the ghost has not appeared, work through Isolated Island Chief on Satyros Island, the large island in the far southwest of the ocean.

Head to the waterfall village and defeat Satyros, then clear the associated outpost and village. Check the faction quest objectives before leaving so you have completed the full sequence.

Satyros rewards the Satyros Spear, which comes with Eclipsed Thorn. This Abyss Gear adds a follow-up effect to a final blow, giving spear users another reward to collect while progressing towards the armour.

The exact minimum unlock requirements for Cave of Sorrow are not confirmed. Completing Isolated Island Chief followed by Predator of the Abandoned Island is a successful sequence, but it is unclear whether both are mandatory. You can check the cave after each quest to see whether the encounter is already available.

Our ocean mounts and hidden encounters guide covers other discoveries worth investigating around the ocean.

Defeat Reggis and Collect Unfurled Feathers

The next encounter is on the island north of Satyros Island. Activate the nearby Abyss Nexus, then look for the shallow, watery area where Reggis the Isleguard appears.

Defeat Reggis to complete Predator of the Abandoned Island and obtain Unfurled Feathers.

This Abyss Gear adds three homing feather projectiles to your bow’s charged shot. It provides an additional attack effect, making it a useful reward if you are collecting the Naval Officer equipment for a bow setup.

After finishing the quest, return to Cave of Sorrow and check whether the ghost encounter has become available.

Where to Find Cave of Sorrow

Cave of Sorrow is reached through a coastal cave on Burgal Island. Enter from the sea and swim through the passage leading inland.

Activate the fast travel point inside when you arrive. This makes it easier to return if you still need to finish another faction quest.

In the central chamber, look for the stone stairs and the rocks at their top. When the encounter is ready, a helmet, lamp, and books appear there. Approach the stairs to trigger the cutscene and begin the fight.

If the objects are missing and nothing happens, review your progress through A Wider World and Mistbound Sea, make sure you have read the note beside the Naval Officer’s Hat, and check the two island quests described above.

Defeat Rohan Cooper for the Naval Officer Armor

Defeat Rohan Cooper, the ghost officer inside the cave, to obtain the Naval Officer’s Armor and Mirage Cascade Abyss Gear.

Rohan is a step up from the earlier island bosses. He attacks quickly, uses several combinations, and demonstrates the Mirage Cascade effect during the encounter. Bring upgraded equipment rather than expecting the same straightforward fight as the preceding bosses.

The chest armour has an innate 20% chance not to consume arrows, along with lightning resistance and fitted Abyss Gear.

Mirage Cascade supports a different playstyle. After a stab, charge and release the follow-up to summon echoes that repeat the attack. The repeated strikes help build stagger and make it an appealing option for setups focused on stabbing attacks and consecutive hits.

There is also another helmet to collect at the top of the steps after the fight, although it is separate from the Naval Officer’s Hat collected earlier.

Using the Naval Officer Armor for a Bow Build

The main benefit of the Naval Officer’s Armor and Hat is that their arrow-saving effects are innate. You keep those bonuses while using their available Abyss Gear slots for other improvements.

This is particularly useful for setups that regularly fire explosive arrows. Combining the armour with arrow-saving effects on your bow gives you more options when balancing ammunition conservation against additional damage.

One option is to test replacing an arrow-saving bow gear with an offensive effect such as Unfurled Feathers. Check your ammunition use after making the change rather than assuming the listed percentages guarantee unlimited arrows.

The hat and chest each list a 20% chance not to consume arrows. Their combined interaction with other equipment has not been established here, so treat them as additional sources of ammunition conservation.

With both pieces collected, you have the matching pirate hat and coat so you can look menacing out in the ocean, plus new Abyss Gear options for either charged bow shots or a stabbing setup.
