Overview

Chaos Rifts are new mini-events introduced in Season 10, Season of Infernal Chaos. They spawn across Sanctuary and are one of the main ways to farm Chaos Armor and Infernal Warp for upgrading Chaos Perks otherwise known as Chaos Powers.

These events appear as bloody hands on your map and in the world walk up, trigger them, and prepare for a fight.

For a full overview of the season check out our Season 10 overview.

What Chaos Rifts Are

Chaos Rifts are a new Seasonal Mechanic for the Season of Infernal Chaos, you will find and see them appearing during Helltides and during Nightmare Dungeons.

You've be able to easily recognise them by the "Bloody Hand" Icon on the mini-map, as well as their hand appearance in game.

  • Each Rift becomes a small arena: activate the bloody hand, waves of Chaos Monsters pour out, and once cleared the Rift collapses.

Chaos Rifts scale differently depending on where they spawn:

  • In Helltides, their difficulty and loot follow your World/Torment tier.
  • Inside Nightmare Dungeons, rewards scale with the Sigil tier, just like the dungeon itself.

Chaos Rifts are pretty straight forward in design, you can open and close a Chaos Rift relatively easily.

  1. Look for the bloody hand icon on the mini map or in the world.
  2. Interact with it to start the event, demons will begin pouring out.
  3. Defeat all enemies.
  4. Once the arena is clear, the Rift collapses and rewards drop.

Rifts can be done solo or in a party; each player gets their own loot.

Chaos Rift Rarity List

Chaos Rifts come in four different rarities, similar to the item rarity system we're used too:

  • Magic
  • Rare
  • Legendary
  • Mythic (very rare)

Mythic Rifts are extremely rare and expected to offer the best rewards,

Chaos Rift Rewards

Once sealed a Chaos Rift will spew fourth loot, no different than most mechanics, here are the possible rewards:

  • Infernal Warp – used to upgrade Chaos Powers to Rank 10.
  • Chaos Armor – can drop at any tier, with higher chances on Legendary/Mythic Rifts and in higher Torments.
  • Viz-Jaq’taar Veneration – seasonal reputation to unlock Chaos Powers.
  • Obducite – crafting material for Nightmare content.
  • Gem Fragments
  • Obols (Gambling currency)
  • Bonus XP
  • Nightmare Sigils, including ones with the Chaos Rift affix.

Forcing Chaos Rifts

If you're struggling to find Chaos Rifts or just want to farm them, two mechanics you can use to increase or force them to spawn.

  • You can force one by running a Nightmare Sigil that has the Chaos Rift affix.
  • The Season Blessing Urn of Chaos Nightmares increases the chance for Chaos Rift Sigils to drop from Helltide chests.

Chaos Rift Farming Tips

Due to Chaos Rifts being one of the core mechanics of the season, and a decent source of Chaos Armour and Infernal Warp, used in the upgrading of Chaos Powers or Chaos Perks- here's a list of ways to enhance your Chaos Rift farming.

  • Higher World Tier = better loot. Push into Torment early if you want Chaos Armor drops.
  • Use Chaos Rift Sigils. Force Rifts inside Nightmare Dungeons for steady farming.
  • Stack Urn of Reputation early to speed up Chaos Power unlocks while farming Rifts.
  • Mythic Rifts are rare. Expect to run many Magic/Rare/Legendary before seeing one.
