Build Variants

OVERVIEW

Leveling can vary quite a bit from player to player. This guide is focused on helping you progress in the most efficient way possible, so the most important part will be following the Skill Tree leveling path, along with the gear recommendations and gameplay tips I'll be sharing throughout this guide

The Gear section is focused on what you should prioritize as you progress, while you collect better gear, Aspects, and crafting materials

Prioritize the following affixes while leveling

  • Willpower
  • Max Life
  • Crit Chance
  • Attack speed
  • All Res
  • Spirit Generation
  • Mov Speed

These affixes are essential for leveling, as they provide the strongest foundation for a smooth leveling experience.

Willpower is our primary stat, so it naturally increases our damage while also scaling several of our core mechanics. Maximum Life is essential for survivability, as it is one of our main defensive scalars. Critical Strike Chance is by far the best offensive stat for Shred, allowing us to consistently trigger our key effects. Finally, Attack Speed lets us attack faster, resulting in more Shred procs and smoother gameplay.

These four affixes are more than enough to carry you from the beginning all the way through the end of the leveling process.

As secondary priorities, you can look for Lightning Damage or Vulnerable Damage multipliers. I don't recommend prioritizing Critical Strike Damage early on, since your Critical Strike Chance will still be too low for it to provide consistent value

The remaining affixes are complementary, providing additional defense, mobility, and resource sustain to make the leveling experience even smoother

Aspect Priority Order

Use these Aspects wisely. Try to save your crafting materials for gear that's actually worth investing in.

You'll replace your gear frequently while leveling, so I recommend waiting until around Level 30–35 before you start imprinting your most important Aspects. This is usually the point where you'll want to push into the next difficulty, making the investment much more worthwhile.

For example, if you've been leveling on Normal difficulty from Levels 1–30 and are ready to move up, look for a solid set of gear and use the Aspect Priority list as a guide. This power spike will help you clear higher difficulties more comfortably and level much faster

  • Overcharged Aspect
  • Conceited Aspect
  • Aspect of the Followed Path
  • Vigorous Aspect
  • Great Storm Aspect
  • Crushing Aspect
  • Aspect of Inner Calm
  • Aspect of the Orange Herald
  • Archdruid's Aspect
  • Aspect of Debilitating Toxins
  • Vulpine's Aspect (optional)

As you can see, this is a balanced mix of offense and defense. Nothing too complicated.

We prioritize Overcharged Aspect because it makes applying Vulnerable with Storm Shred Shredmuch more consistent. Previously, we relied on Wind Shear to apply Vulnerable, and while you can still do that, it becomes much less necessary once you have this Aspect.

Vigorous Aspect and Great Storm Aspect provide excellent survivability during the early levels, making the leveling process much safer. The remaining Aspects are mainly there to optimize the build. Aspect of the Orange Herald helps reduce the cooldown of Cataclysm, giving you much higher uptime on your ultimate.

If you're struggling with Spirit sustain, Vulpine's Aspect is also an excellent option to help keep your resource under control

Talisman

Talisman Priority
+4

Talismans can vary quite a bit depending on your drops while leveling. However, this setup is one of the best overall options for a smooth leveling experience.

It provides bonus Experience and Gold, both of which are extremely valuable early on. The extra experience helps you level faster, while the additional gold allows you to imprint Aspects, upgrade your gear at the Cube, and cover other important progression costs.

You'll also gain Movement Speed, which is essential for clearing content and traveling more efficiently, along with Attack Speed, making the build feel much smoother during the early game. Since most leveling builds start off feeling a bit clunky, the extra Attack Speed significantly improves the overall gameplay experience.

This is probably the most important section of the leveling guide. Make sure to follow the Skill Tree Leveling Path as your roadmap all the way to Level 70.

Skills

We start with Wind Shear, which provides a huge amount of value during the early game. It grants a Barrier, Movement Speed, Spirit regeneration, and applies Vulnerable to enemies.

Without a doubt, it's one of the most important skills throughout our leveling journey, providing both utility and survivability while keeping our damage consistent

Shred becomes our main damage skill. Early on, it has very high base damage, making it one of the strongest leveling abilities.

It's also an extremely versatile skill, allowing you to dash between enemies, which greatly improves your mobility while clearing content.

At Level 15, we'll unlock the Storm Shred Shred upgrade. This is where the build takes a huge leap in both power and gameplay feel, all without requiring exceptional gear

I've decided to include Poison Creeper because it provides excellent AoE damage while also giving us a strong source of Crowd Control.

It also lets us take advantage of Poison on enemies, further increasing our overall damage. With its high initial burst damage, Poison Creeper is one of my favorite Companion skills and will be a great asset throughout your leveling journey

Blood Howl gives us several powerful benefits, so it's important to understand exactly what happens when you activate it.

Most importantly, thanks to Spirit Howl Blood Howl, your attacks will begin generating Spirit, greatly improving your resource sustain. It also grants Movement Speed, making it easier to move between packs and maintain a smooth leveling pace.

Overall, it's a simple but very impactful skill that you'll want to use on cooldown whenever possible

Cyclone Armor is our primary defensive skill. It passively grants additional Resistances, making us much tankier throughout the leveling process.

We'll also use its active effect to pull enemies together, allowing us to group packs more efficiently and clear them faster with Shred and Poison Creeper

Finally, we add Cataclysm to greatly improve the build's clearing efficiency by providing a significant damage boost.

It's the best Ultimate for leveling, allowing you to clear content much faster. It deals damage from a distance, making it effective against both large packs and tougher enemies. On top of that, it generates Ferocity stacks, increasing your Attack Speed and making the build feel even smoother to play

Gameplay Loop

Start every fight with Wind Shear. It grants a Barrier, increases your Movement Speed, regenerates Spirit, and applies Vulnerable to enemies.

Once your buffs are active, use Shred as your main damage skill to tear through enemies.

Use Cyclone Armor and Blood Howl whenever needed to improve your survivability, reposition, recover Spirit, and quickly get back into combat.

Poison Creeper is especially effective against large groups of enemies, but don't hesitate to use it on bosses as well for the extra damage and Crowd Control.

Finally, activate Cataclysm whenever you need a major power spike, such as at the start of a dungeon, during Helltides, or in any leveling activity where you want to clear enemies as quickly as possible

Don't forget to follow the Skill Tree Leveling Path! It's the most important part of the guide and will ensure your progression stays smooth all the way to Level 70

Paragon Board

You'll also find this Paragon setup in the Starter version of the final Endgame build.

This path is optimized to reach the most important Legendary Nodes as quickly and efficiently as possible, since they provide the biggest power spikes during the early stages of your endgame progression
