Build Overview

Hydrakuna is a top-tier Hydra Sorcerer build for Season 9, dominating from leveling to endgame! With the Ophidian Iris amulet, this build merges your Hydras into three massive Hydras, enabling them to deal AoE damage.

This build is designed for use upon reaching level 60 and is the best choice for progressing from Torment 1 to Torment 4.

Build Variants

Use this build once you've hit level 60 and unlocked Torment 1. It's perfect for progressing through Torments 1 to 4.

Requirements :

  • Ophidian Iris - drops from Duriel, Andariel, Harbinger of Hatred
  • Tal Rasha's Iridescent Loop - drops from Urivar, Echo of Varshan
  • Hail of Verglas - drops from Grigoire, Urivar
  • Mana Shield & Power Siphon seasonal power - drops from Bartuc (Infernal Hordes final boss)

Any extra Aspects or Seasonal Powers you acquire will give your build a significant boost in power

This version doesn’t rely on Chaos Armor, as it’s often difficult to get them in the right slots. If you do manage to find them, feel free to use them and check the final build here to see the Best-in-Slot setup.

Masterworking (MW) enhances an item's stats. Each MW rank boosts all affixes by 5%, but Ranks 4, 8, and 12 give a 25% bonus to one random affix.

  • MW Rank 4 (blue): one affix gets a +25% bonus.
  • MW Rank 8 (blue or yellow): a second +25% bonus is applied, if it hits the same affix again, it turns yellow.
  • MW Rank 12 (blue, yellow, or orange): a third +25% bonus is applied, if an affix is hit three times, it turns orange.

Use the Masterworking menu at Blacksmiths. MW ranks can be reset if needed.
In this build, as you are leveling it doesn't matter too much, try to get 1-2 masterwork on the stats.

CEH is important to use
If you are lucky enough to find Nagu, use it instead of Cir!
You can remove LIFE affixes when you get Mana Shield

    How it Works

    Progressing from T1 to T4

Once you have all the requirements to get your build started, it’s time to start farming Pits.
This is the fastest way to level up your Paragon, since Pit completions give the most XP. The optimal strategy is to farm Pits that you can clear in around 3 minutes.

Pit rewards also include Obols, which you can spend at the Purveyor of Curiosities to gamble for Ancestral items to further improve your character.

Farming Paragon levels at this stage is very efficient. Unlocking Legendary Nodes provides a huge power spike, each granting roughly 50–60% increased damage.

You can also run Hordes to farm Chaos Uniques and powers. Hordes drop Obducite, which is used for Masterworking. At this stage, don’t focus on perfect Masterworks, just aim for steady progression.

Farming boss materials and doing Tormented Bosses like Belial in Torment III is also very worthwhile. There’s no need to wait until Torment IV. Securing Mythic Uniques early is often the key step to unlocking and switching into stronger builds.

Finally, start comparing your gear with the final build setup or an endgame version. This will help you identify which Greater Affixes (GAs) you should aim for as you optimize.

    Frequently Asked Questions ###

    • The Wolves are coming from the rune "CEH"
    • Critical Strike Chance: 40% from Esu's Ferocity (key passive), 20% from Invoked Hydra, 10% dex and base, 15% searing heat & 15% from Conjurer if you use it. So it's very easy to reach 100% Critical Strike Chance!
    • Hail of Verglas is used for its unique effect: "You deal 2% increased damage for each time Ice Shards hits an enemy for 5 seconds, up to [100] stacks."
Since there’s not much to do once your two Hydras are active, casting Ice Shards during downtime lets you stack this bonus, potentially doubling your damage!
    • 1H vs 2H : We use a wand and focus instead of a staff to gain extra mobility. Two-handed weapons don’t offer more damage, the 1H setup performs better overall.
