Build Overview

This build utilizes Blizzard to spawn Blizzard: Hailstorm Ice Spikes to deal Direct Cold damage that can Critically Strike. Ice Spikes are considered a frost skill. Should cap around 140 Tower.

While Blizzard itself has a damage over time component that deals "Frostbite Damage", we do not care about that damage. We only scale the Ice Spike damage from Blizzard: Hailstorm.

Firewall is the best Sorcerer build, but many don't enjoy it, myself included. I think Blizzard is the best all around build for all content. Absolutely nukes T12 mephisto. Nuff said.

Only Sorcs Discord

Strengths and Weaknesses

  • Helltide/Horde smasher
  • Bossing
  • Movement
  • 2nd best build (maybe 3rd idk Pure Meteor is good too, but ass to farm with)

Build Variants

Hit Rank 10 doing a 130 in the Push Setup with 120 glyphs & my Ancestral setup level gear 3 days in. This setup can go to 140. If you are looking to go higher, look elsewhere. I don't push or build like that.
Gear missing lots of damage. Only Mythic Raiment. No abyssal splinters.
Ton of room to go up. I also suck at Tower. T130 Tower

Can maybe also try Strength (Focus) over Aspect of the Frozen Wake Crushing blow lets you cheese the first 50% of a mobs health. Crushing blow like obliterates the first 50%. But also you lose 2.2x damage to effectively cheese the first half of a mobs health... bit of a wash. and blizzard's LHC is crap. Ice spikes don't have LHC as well. Can also try Ber Noc & Igni Kry

To transition this setup to speed farming and bossing setup simply

  • Swap Signet of Pelghain to a Sunderfrost Aspect ring or Ring of Starless Skies
  • Swap Deep Freeze: Bonechill to Inferno: Lifecoil, Inferno: Cooldown Reduction, Inferno: Overpower
  • Swap Noc Kry back to Igni Jah

Infinity?

  • Infinity (Staff) is actually very popular for pushing. Drop a Common Staff into the cube with 2x Ber 1xMal 1x Ist and hope it rolls with Cold Damage multi. Awful to farm.
  • Reroll gold find to Crit Strike Damage Multiplier and MW it.
  • Then pray the transfig hits Cold Damage [x] or 2nd best is Gem Strength
  • It grants Cyclone Armor provides some serious all resistance to make you tanky
  • When mythic you deal 162.5% or 2.625[x] more damage to close enemies
  • You also then gain Crushing blow to chunk enemies down to 50% or 35% health, I forget
  • Dropping Aspect of the Frozen Wake and Aspect of Merciless Cold entirely is fine, as Lingering Aspect is the highest damage multi and Blasting Aspect is irreplaceable because of the fixed size increase. I slotted Blasting on the gloves for this exact reason, in case of swaps.

Tidbits

  • Signet of Pelghain stacks damage for each second an enemy has been frozen
  • Deep Freeze: Bonechill removes Unstoppable and lets you keep enemies perma frozen. Hydra: Frigid Hydra resets it's cooldown
  • Noc Kry clumps enemies for Hydra and your Blizzard casts
  • Can potentially run Iceheart Brais for more damage

Resource Concerns

  • Splinter of Sin is really great, but it drops your max resource to 70
  • If you drop all your Resource Cost reduction rolls off your rings and don't have any max resource on charms, you end up in a spot where you can regen the mana, but because your mana cost is more than half your max resource it's really clunky
  • I just have a Diamond in that slot for now

Strength?

You can try dropping your Aspect of the Frozen Wake wand for Strength (1h Sword). Crushing blow is a mechanic that just outright chunks down mobs health, but it stops working at either 50% or 35% mob health. It's effectively the same thing as Aspect of the Frozen Wake (our lowest damage aspect) so I don't bother. I would say just run Infinity (Staff).

Hellfire Torch: If you don't have it use Berú of the Frozen Sea

  • Hellfire Torch is a Mythic Charm from a quest that can act as +1 to Phoba of the Frozen Sea 5 set, letting you drop your worst charm for it.
  • You must equip the Hellfire Torch charm first, then it will allow you to slot in Banished Lord's Talisman. You cannot equip Hellfire Torch while you have a Unique Charm already slotted.

Banished Lord's Talisman

  • Banished Lord's Talisman ... cast Teleport: Blaze to consume an overpower, and get 8 seconds of 100% critical strike damage? Sure thing.
  • Randomly get 4 overpower for Teleport: Blaze? Sure thing

Skills

  1. Blizzard is main damage caster
  2. Inferno generates overpower for Blaze Teleport and heals you
  3. Hydra: Frigid Hydra for Hydra: Cooldown Reduction & Hydra: Healing
  4. Ice Armor for barrier and unstoppable Ice Armor: Permafrost
    1. The unstoppable will break the stun from Splinter of the Mother
  5. Blaze Teleport for movement. Consumes 1 overpower for a free cast
  6. Familiar: Fast As Lightning to help reduce cooldowns and for Elementalist

Enchantments

  1. Frozen Orb for Frozen Orb: Barrier
  2. Hydra: Frigid Hydra will make a 5 headed hydra every 154 mana spent

How To Tower

  • Walk and find the Elites without casting Blizzard using Ice Armor for barrier
  • Try to get a bunch of mobs to follow you, then pack them up on the elites with Raiment of the Infinite teleport's and Kry
  • then use Deep Freeze: Bonechill to remove the unstoppable
  • Cast Blizzard until they die, using Hydra: Frigid Hydra to reset Deep Freeze: Bonechill

Frequently Asked Questions

Survivability

I've been hearing people say they are getting nuked. There are many reasons and ways to fix it

Seasonal Splinters are killing you

  • Splinter of the Black Soulstone should not be ran in content where you do not need the damage. This is strictly a glyph leveling item
  • Splinter of Lies makes you take 20% more damage
  • Use Splinter of Pain & Splinter of Sin in Leoric's when farming. Splinter of Sin can be very tough on mana, so be aware.
  • In helltide especially, where you don't have mobs grouped up as much for Hydra: Frigid Hydra to reset Ice Armor's cooldown instantly, things can get hairy.

Sorc naturally has low survivability

  • Sorc's damage reduction used to be heavily reliant on passives in the original pre-expansion skill tree. When these were removed we did not get any compensation.
  • With Skill Tre 2.0, we also lost many of the ways we had to create barrier. The protection passive and old ice armor were insane. I'm extremely annoyed that my only real options are Que & Frozen Orb: Barrier enchant OR sacrificing a ring aspect for Aspect of Elemental Attunement to reset Ice Armor
    • That being said, you may want to consider using Aspect of Elemental Attunement on a ring when farming
  • As a class that only has 2 weapons, we don't have access to a ton of Max Life
  • It is not until you get around 200+ paragon that you start getting tanky. This is because so much of our survivability is tied to those Max Life, Armor, and All resist nodes.

Mythic Raiment is priority #1 - Direct upgrade to Mythic

  • Raiment of the Infinite with 50% DR is the equivalent of two separate 30% damage reduction aspects. When mythic at 65%, it is equivalent to two separate 40% damage reduction aspects. This is the single most important item in our aresenal

You need to sacrifice damage for survivability

  • When I design a build that is not the absolute strongest build for the class I have to focus more on maximizing the damage to get it online faster and passable for endgame content
  • This season was especially bad for survivability because of the damage splinters. It's a very difficult balancing act I have to do, as I already don't like having more than 3-4 variants in a build.
  • If you see a ring with Crit [x], Vuln [x], All Damage [x], and Intelligence you may want to consider dropping Intelligence or all damage for Max Life and/or Cooldown Reduction. The same goes for gloves and even the amulet.
  • I'm generally very concerned about Resource problems so I slotted Tibault's Will as a safeguard into most of the setups. As a result this had me slot in Igni because only Ice Armor: Permafrost will trigger it. They gutted our Teleport and it no longer gives us unstoppable. I personally don't use Igni and I run Sol and Que for survivability
  • Aspect of Arcane Ward or Mage-Lord's Aspect are good damage reduction aspects to slot on your pants if you find you do not need Tibault's Will. Mage-Lord's Aspect is only viable if you are running and pressing Familiar: Fast As Lightning a lot.
  • You can always drop Blizzard: Damage Bonus for Blizzard: Barrier

Running Threefold over Frozen Sea

  • Every build use to run Phoba of the Threefold that granted 30% all resistance. When they buffed Phoba of the Frozen Sea to beat Threefold in damage, we lost a lot. I think Frozen Sea is worth it at 5.1x vs 4x Threefold... but again, damage always comes at a cost

Leveling

  • I don't immediately start with this build as the mana can be a little tough starting out.
  • You can start early with it though, craft a Stealth and an Insight (Staff) by inputting the listed runes with a Common White Chest armor or Staff at the cube.
  • Maybe roll the Weapon damage off Insight for Max Life.
  • Then Lingering Aspect amulet ... then Aspect of the Frozen Wake, Blasting Aspect, and Aspect of Merciless Cold on gloves/rings
  • I start with Blizzard: Static Field. It has a low mana cost and damage over time (Sparking) builds are very strong early. They come with higher multipliers and base stats to offset the fact they cannot critically strike. Fun fact, while leveling your crit chance is terrible. Win Win.
    Static Field Level 1 - T12 Guide

Note: I do not assign any priorities. The planner just doesn't let me remove them from displaying.

Critical Strike Chance: Want 85% Stat Sheet

  • Base + Dexterity = 5% + 1.5% = 6.5%
  • Stalagmite = 15% Ice Spike Crit Chance (Will not show up on stat sheet)
  • Esu's Heirloom 40% (52%) if Mythic
  • Leoric's Crown + Splinter of Anguish = 30% (33%) if Mythic
  • Without Mythics, 6.5 + 15 + 40 + 30 = 91.5% (Good nuff, but 1 weapon crit temper solves)
  • With Mythics, 6.5 + 15 + 52 + 33 = 106.5% (No Crit Rolls needed anywhere)

Seasonal Splinters

  • Leoric's Crown lets you slot 2 extra splinters and increases their bonuses by 50-65% (mythic)
    • Splinter of the Black Soulstone & Splinter of Anguish are your best damage option
  • Then on Amulet always have Splinter of the Mother
  • Then your rings flex the following depending on what your doing
    • For Hard Content = Splinter of Pain & Splinter of Sin (If you can afford the Mana)
    • For XP Farming = Splinter of Lies & Splinter of Damnation

Farming Seasonal Splinters

  • You can Amalgamate (combine) 5 splinters to upgrade the rarity at cube. Abyssal is top rarity
  • They drop everywhere, but you can target farm most in Dungeons that have Gem Reserve Chests
  • Splinter of the Black Soulstone = Random drops
  • Splinter of Anguish = Ruby
  • Splinter of the Mother = Skull
  • Splinter of Pain = Emerald
  • Splinter of Sin = Topaz
  • Splinter of Lies = Saphire
  • Splinter of Damnation = Amethyst
  • Splinter of Hellfire = Diamond

Threefold or Frozen Sea charm set

  • Phoba of the Threefold is fine over Phoba of the Frozen Sea set
  • Phoba of the Frozen Sea is 5.1x damage, Phoba of the Threefold is 4x but has more QOL such as Mana on Mastery Charm which instantly solves any mana problems and the set itself has all resistance
  • You then take orbital Ball Lightning nodes with ferocity and crackling gen, Firewall healing nodes, and Meteor overpower nodes + meteorites
  • If you simply cannot solve your mana, you run Phoba of the Threefold even if you don't have a mana on mastery charm, you take Ball Lightning: Orbital and Firewall: Grounding and drop Searing Heat for Static Surge

No Adept Glyph?

Adept increases Blizzard's skill area which kind of messes up the Ice Spike concentration. Think about wanting a tighter shotgun spread.

Unique Farming Guide

  • BEST BELIAL CHOICES (These bosses are hard to farm normally)
  • Esu's Heirloom = Asteroth (Escalation NM's or Belial)
Raiment of the Infinite (Bartuuc Hordes)
  • JUST USE REGULAR BOSS KEYS
  • Signet of Pelghain = Beast in the ice
  • Tibault's Will = Generic Unique pool (Upgrade common pants to Unique at the cube)
  • Blue Rose = Duriel
  • Banished Lord's Talisman for Banished Lord's Talisman
    • Upgrade Common White Amulets to Uniques at the cube, then turn it into a charm

Damage Scaling Faq

The game lumps things in "Buckets" and then lines up all the buckets and multiplies them. Out pops a yellow number in the trillions at the end.
The most confusing part is that the tooltips mislead you. The Crit Strike Damage Multiplier value in the tooltip is a completely irrelevant number. It artificially inflates itself by taking your critical strike damage additive and multiplies it by your crit strike damage bonuses. The game doesn't work like that.

Say you have 100% crit chance and you always critically strike. An aspect that says deal 100%[x] more cold damage will deal the exact same damage as Banished Lord's Talisman that says deal 100% more critical strike damage.

If you have 100% crit strike chance, 100% [+] critical strike damage is the exact same thing as 100% [+] Ice Spike damage. The main reason we stack Crit Damage [+] and [x] is simply because the raw values are higher, and we can get enough crit chance to unleash the totality of those values.

If you have 80% crit strike chance, that Banished Lord's Talisman will have the exact same damage bonus, on average, as an aspect that says deal 80% [x] more cold damage, or vulnerable [x] damage, or Ice Spike [x] damage. The same goes for the additive you have. If you have 80% crit chance, then 100% [+] crit strike damage equals 80% [+] Ice spike damage.

Also lastly if something says deal 100% [x] more damage, it's best to convert it to an actual non percentage value mentally.
60% = 1.6x... 100% = 2x... 150% = 2.5x... 375% = 4.75x. Get the picture?

Buckets (Each is stand alone, and just keep tacking on to each other)

  1. Weapon Damage (It's generally not taken as a gear affix because it's just behind All/Elemental Damage and it's the odd-man out. It's very close though)
  2. Intelligence: [1 + Intelligence/625] ... Say 3000 INT ... 1 + 3000/625 = 1 + 4.8 = 5.8x
  3. Skill Ranks contribute to a skill modifier you can view in the skill tree, say 544% goes into the formula as a 6.44x
  4. Additive Damage [+] such as Destruction's +24.1% per 5 dex
    1. If you have 2000% total additive and all conditions are met then it goes into the formula as 21x.
    2. If 800% of your additive is critical strike damage and you don't crit, then 1200% goes in for 13x.
    3. All the additives from glyphs, paragon magic/rare nodes, and tempers gets shoved into here. This bucket gets rather large and is where the term "diminishing returns" rears its ugly head. It's why most opt for Cooldown or Resource tempers on rings, instead of Crit Strike Damage [+].
  5. Each Individual Aspect such as Aspect of Inner Calm or Conceited Aspect exist alone.
    1. Calm will give 1.75x, and Conceited will give 1.6x. Together 1.75 x 1.6 = 2.8x
  6. Each Individual Charm Ex.Banished Lord's Talisman says if Crit deal 2x damage
  7. Each portion of a set bonus (2,3,5)
    1. Fer of the Frozen Sea 2 set is 1.7x. The 5 set is 3x damage. Totals 5.1x together.
    2. Some set bonuses like Phoba of Wild Lightning specifically state the 5 set modifies the value of the 2 set. Wild Lightning requires Claude to figure out (Hint it's 6.05x on average)
  8. Seal bonuses are all standalone. Each individual portion. The 20%[x] damage at the top that you can reroll is 1.2x. And the 10% frost skill damage you can't reroll (that requires say Frozen Sea) is 1.1x. These operate independently for 1.2 x 1.1 = 1.32 [x]
  9. A Glyph like Destruction has TWO [x] bonuses, a 12%[x] and a 20%[x]. You will see both in game or if you actually go to the paragon here. This is why leveling Glyphs is so important. You are looking at 9 or 10 standalone multipliers that keep tacking on. The upgrades compound on each other. All the additives from glyphs and paragon magic/rare nodes gets shoved into the
These operate independently for 1.12[x] and 1.2[x]. These multiply together for 1.344[x]
  10. A critical strike inherently deals 1.5[x] more damage, regardless of other damage bonuses
  11. A vulnerable target inherently takes 1.2[x] more damage, regardless of other damage bonuses
    1. Elites might take 1.15[x] more damage and bosses take 1.1[x] more, instead of 1.2[x] I think
  12. Gear Affix Multipliers are then broken into 4 buckets. These are part of the 4 affixes on gear that you can enchant. Because Crit and Vuln Multi are separate, it's why you see my gloves/weapon focus Crit multi, and you see my jewelry focus Vuln Multi. It's just an optimization of buckets for Bigga Numba.
    1. Crit Strike Damage Multiplier
    2. Damage Over Time Multiplier
    3. Vulnerable Damage Multiplier
    4. ALL Damage Multiplier and Elemental Damage Multiplier (Cold, Fire, Lightning) and Gems in weapons combine for one bucket. 20% ALL damage = 20% Cold damage. Gems in weapons are the exact same thing as the Cold Damage Multi affix on your gloves. Note: Cold/Fire/Lightning damage rolls higher than ALL damage on gloves and amulet ONLY. For weapons and rings, ALL and Elemental damage are interchangeable.
  13. Transfigurations are standalone when they are say Cold Damage [x]. If you have 8 of them at 12.5%[x] each, then you deal 1.125 x 1.125 x 1.125 ... 8 times. For a grand total of 2.58[x] damage
    1. This can be 3-4 Tower/Pit tiers of damage. The damage they provide is absurd, and it's because each exists on an island alone and gets tacked on in succession.

The fact there are SO MANY BUCKETS is why damage gets so out of hand, and why the streamer is dealing 100x your damage. Also the Transfigurations are so much more than you think. Every little thing keeps adding up and cascading. When my characters are "complete" in my eyes, I am likely still missing 5-10x damage. Every single one of my videos I am at 20% of the true strength I could be. I have just cleared everything that T12 has to offer, and I refuse to grind a seasonal game endlessly to make numba go up for Tower. I have dumb crap like this to write. enjoy.

In the case of a mythical Horadric Seal, how would you use the combination? Would you use 3 unique amulets and 3 pieces of the Frostbite? Which amulets would you use?

Dear Lurkin, (Appreciation post)

I started last season with shock blizzy, and this season too, i went it so, following your guide. I had a lovely time, carried many people, countless Baal and Mephisto runs and did up to pit 125 comfortably. Thereafter, I started feeling a little stuck (little note: no Gem strength or anything like that, but lovely mythics i grinded for with purrfect stats).
At that point I started working towards an ice queen build, following your guide. I made a few minor adjustments (like highly preferring seeking blizzard because i click the wrong spots a lot, so lose a lot of damage otherwise.) After grinding countless sparkies, 6 bad ring of starless skies, Belial grinding, etc. I completed it, and swapped to the build yesterday. Today i immediately did 140 pit with 5 minutes remaining (no transfiguration) which was already my goal of the season completed.

Thank you so much for your guides and content!

Kind regards,
Kathianna

Technically there are in terms of base weapon damage and base cast speed. Wands and daggers are 1.2 attacks per second (aps). Swords and maces are 1.1 aps. Staff is 1.0 aps. These effect your base cast speed and the attack speed breakpoints. However, these differences are offset by an increase in Base Weapon damage for the slower attacking weapons. TLDR, Use whatever 1H weapon you have the best roll and transfig on. The differences are negligible
